One thing I've always liked about FiM's writing, by the way, is how they don't lean on character names, certainly not anywhere near to the degree that you'd expect from a show whose purpose is ostensibly to advertise toys. I seem to remember the G1 Transformers cartoon had dialogue like "Where are the Decepticons™ hiding out, Bumblebee™?" "Behind the next ridge, Wheeljack™! Let's go report to Optimus Prime™©!" It weirded me out even as a kid.

I noticed this myself when I first watched the show. To be honest, it was part of the reason I was lukewarm to the show at first. In FPK (my first episode) the first line after the intro is Fluttershy going:

:modesty: "Oh, I'm so, so, sorry! You okay Twilight Sparkle?"

Something about that line seemed way off, and still does, kinda. I guess it sounds forced. The shorter names/nicknames they tend to rely on a lot more now really help the show feel more natural.

I'm getting a kick out of the bestiary this show has. Dragons of every shape and size, Unicorns, Pegasii, Griffons, Phoenixes, Minotaurs, mutant dog things, Star Bears, Discord's species (if he's an example of one or whatever).

And all of these appear right alongside incredibly ordinary non-speaking cats, dogs, rabbits, chickens...

Yeah, but enough with the preliminaries -- I want to see Twilight Sparkle fight a beholder. Maybe while Fluttershy gives a massage to an umber hulk. Hasbro, you own Wizards of the Coast, you can swing this. :black101:

Spelled dragonokis on The Hub's website, and draconequis in the closed captions. Faust's preferred spelling is draconequus.

Faust's spelling is probably the correct one. It's Latin for "Dragon Horse".

That one made more sense to me than the more recent crutch on Rainbow's name does.

Maybe it's a "full name" basis that some characters have.

Like John Redcorn from King of the Hill. He's NEVER referred to as just "John". All the characters call him "John Redcorn" no matter what.

I remember getting thrown freshly off-balance in Episode 1 where he was all like "It's kinda pretty when you get used to it!"

I was still trying to get my bearings and figure out what the show's deal was, whether I even could watch a show with an all-female cast and pink hearts everywhere, what this one token male character was doing in it, and how he would be portrayed handling himself in this patently "girly" universe. That line in reaction to her poofed-up hair (instead of, say, making fun of it or saying it looked cool or funky) sounded to me like the kind of thing a kid his apparent age would have been accustomed to saying if he had a couple of older sisters with lots of giggling friends and knew nothing of traditional gender roles beyond what he observed in them.

As the story arc went on they tried to make out like his was a tragic beleaguered role, staking out a hopeless bastion of masculinity in a sea of women, but now it looks like he's made his peace with it. It's so neatly done and so subtle a transition it has to have been intentional. :gotcha:

He laughed along with Rainbow Dash when it happened. I think it was one of those backhanded "compliments". He was only saying it as a rather transparent attempt to cheer Twilight up.

Here's a request: there's a farside comic - wild west scene - cowboy trying to spur a horse into movement - a sheriff is standing by "I figured you'd try to escape, so I took the liberty of removing your horse's brain while you were out."
And he's just holding a brain.
I've been googling for this thing on and off. No luck.

Were there any female dragons in this episode?
Aside from possibly Crackle?

It looks like the designs of the adults hewed closer to the designs of the ones seen in earlier episodes, although there may be no hard and fast rules for that (eyelashes?).

I wonder if dragons have the Simpson gene, where being a doofus is a sex-linked trait.
Maybe the female dragons are at a distant volcanic amphitheater taking adult education courses while the males laze about, belch, and run into each other.
