To "lampshade" something, especially a plot hole/plot device/inconsistency in the narrative, is to have your characters mention or deal with it, but in a way that shows they don't have a ready explanation for it either.

An example: Rarity's dragon costume was terrible. No self-respecting dragon would be fooled by it. The existence of Crackle the dragon, who coincidentally looks just like their terrible costume, lets the writer throw a lampshade on that particular plot hole.

I'd link you to tvtropes, but I generally like you guys so I won't do that.

How predictable and cliche. Where's all the fun?

Discord returns moonwalks in, destroys redecorates Canterlot, kRills (think very large sparkly shrimp) the Princesses, murders (and by murder, I mean crows, lots and lots of jerky crows) thousands of ponies, and forces the mane six to live in hatred, depression and loneliness Wisconsin for the rest of eternity in revenge for what they did to him. The show ends on a shot of a bleak, barren wasteland littered with bodies.(see prior correction)
