I love Kung Fu so much.

Kung Fu makes any situation in any movie/show better. Gripping Somber Courtroom Drama? Bust out that Kung Fu Jack McCoy!

Finding out how to bend common minerals into gold would help a lot... :smirk:

Or perhaps using metal bending to draw it up to the surface?

You wouldn't even need metalbending for that, normal earthbending would work. Just move all the rocks around the gold to push it up to the surface.

Can an earth bender detect metals under the surface, or would you need metal bending to even know where the goods are at? I don't know how this works!

This is just a general Avatar question: I have been watching TLA on Netflix in order to prepare myself for this show, but it seems that they are missing several episodes. Where else can I go to watch TLA episodes?

Are you referring to "The Serprent's Pass", "The Drill", "Day of the Black Sun", "The Boiling Rock", and the season 2 and 3 finales? If so, those are multi-part episodes that Netflix rolls into one. I don't know why they're listed split too.

I love Amon's henchies. I do not love sob stories. Oh well, the fight scenes were mindblowing, so whatever.

I spoiled myself a bit on episode 3 since quite a number of the big scenes from it were leaked in trailers preview clips, but oh well.

Great episode. As noted, the fight scenes are incredible, and backstory always nice- though Mako being Batman was pretty abrupt. I wonder if the firebender who cut down Mako's parents same as the one who cut down Amon's....

Amon is pretty darn cool; I do still like the mystery behind him.

I did not expect them to get this far this fast. It'll be interesting to see where they go from here.

As far as the potential origins of Amon's spirit bending:

Apparently Kon the face-stealer is supposed to make a re-appearance, though I haven't seen an official note on it. Regardless, evil spirits seems to be the most logical explanation. Next episode HAS to be Korra going to the spirit world, I think, or something to do with Korra dealing with spirirts. They're going to want to know if there's any truth to Amon's preaching on powers.

Should we change to Kefka's TVIV style? I guess all those tags would get annoying.

Definitely, but here's a post about how he might just be doing what was done to Aang in the original show, not spirit-bending as was taught to Aang by the lion-turtle.

I don't think that Amon's an spiritbender, it seems like an upgrade of the chi-blocking thing. That comparison linked above corroborates this imo. Bending is the main magic/spiritual 'thing' of the setting, but definitely not the only one.

Mako's backstory and mannerisms seem quite cliche to me and I hope the cheesey romance thing doesn't go too far. The whole stoic badboy type with a tragic past, who eventually warms up to the plucky peppy girl etc. is just so anime

So, I'm a bad fan and still haven't seen any of this show or Book 3 of Avatar, but, I caught the last half of the newest episode this weekend. Holy shit I'm in love with the setting. Way better than Avatar, I just love it when technology crashes with magic, and the whole "We don't need your kind anymore" thing is just my favourite thing.

I was cooking supper:

Roomie - "This guy sound really familiar."
Me - "Which guy?"
Roomie - "The one in the mask."
Me - "Blum. Or a guy doing a REALLY convincing Blum impression."
