Seeds of Kindness : for chaaaaarity!

Post by InC (?) » Wed Mar 14, 2012 6:28 pm

Hey everyone!
As some of you may know, "Smile!", a collective effort from musicians and artists from the MLP fandom, raised around $28,000 for the Children's Cancer Association thanks to a massive music album, custom pony merch and commissions.

Seeing how well it turned out, we are working on a follow-up event, "Seeds of Kindness", to build and supply a clinic in Uganda and a village for street children in Burundi, two projects of the charity Your Siblings. Sustainability and transparency are their primary criteria, 100% of the donations will be used exclusively on the project (even travel costs and money transfer fees are covered independently), and their second chair is an author at Derpy Hooves News. Basically, they're awesome.
How it will work is that anyone donating (directly) to Your Siblings will receive a digital copy of an exclusive music album from the guys at My Little Remix, and the most generous donors will receive extra prizes such as custom pony merch, art or Steam games. More info here: http://broniesforgood.org/?page_id=485

I'm particularly excited about the album and how awesome it's going to be. Even with even higher quality requirements than last time, looking at the submissions we already received, there's no way it's going to be anything less than 2 hours long and 100% fabulous. :vogue:
Here is a short preview :

If you're an artist want to help, we are still accepting songs from the album until March 22nd, and any kind of pony-related merch, art or commissions, as well as Steam games, would really be an amazing help. Last time, we actually received five donations over $1,000 thanks to these prizes, so they're definitely making a huge difference! And last but not least, spread the word! :yay:

And please don't hesitate to ask any question (:

Big update : the album is is almost done, around two hours and a half long, totally amazing, and will be released on Saturday 29th. EverFree Radio will livestream it starting from noon EST, with dozens of musicians attending in the chat, as well as the second chair of the charity we're supporting to answer questions. It will also premiere the Massive Smile Project, a cover of the Smile song featuring 11 soloists and 169 choir singers, which is basically raw :-D :ponydrugs: :-D :ponydrugs: :-D energy condensated in a sound wave.

Livestreaming right now on Everfree Radio, from noon to 2:45pm EDT!

Countless musicians, artists and many others have worked relentlessly for months to finally launch Seeds of Kindness, a charity event to fund a clinic in Uganda and a village for street children in Burundi. Today we celebrate the launch of the project with an EverFree Radio livestream at 16:00 GMT (noon ET). It will premiere the Massive Smile Project, a cover of the Smile song by 11 soloists and over 160 choir singers, as well as the eponymous Seeds of Kindness music album packed with 41 songs, amounting to over 2 hours and a half of music! Dozens of musicians will be in there, as well as Telofy, second chair and founding member of Your Siblings, to answer any question you may have.

Everyone who donates to the fundraiser can download the album as a thank you. Moreover, donating over $50 will get you a free Steam games or Full Access Subscription to iPad MLP ebooks from Ruckus Media, as long as we have some in stock. Artists of all trades have also contributed very valuable prizes for those who donate the most, up to a plush commission worth over $1,000.

More info on :

List of prizes

Album tracklist and previews

How to donate

The first roughly $10,000 will be used to complete the clinic, then, subsequent donations will be used to fund the construction of a Green Village in Burundi, where street children who have lost their parents to the civil war can find a secure home that allows refugees to become self-sufficient without resorting to criminal activity.

You can learn more about our Your Siblings, in their FAQ – it’s a good read. Sustainability, transparency, local roots, need, and urgency are their primary criteria, ensuring that they only support the projects with the strongest long-term impact. After this initial financial impetus, the projects will be completely self-sustainable and break free of outside aid. Moreover, their policy is to cover all travel and personal costs as well as money transfer fees independently from donations, so that 100% of what you give will be spent exclusively on the projects!

A little something more, as a final note :

Image

Back in early January, when we were working on Seeds of Kindness, Lisa (founder of Your Siblings) surprised us with this act of gratitude. Even when we were only just starting to set this up, they trusted our good will and already wanted to thank all of us, all of you for what is about to be accomplished. Here, "Bronies for good" doesn't refer to the small group of people, but to us, the whole community of creative minds and generous souls who made all of this possible. Let's make this happen!

Thanks for the tip guys, I wouldn't have seen it in the fence post otherwise.

This is a pretty special thing, I've put it up on the frontpage, hopefully that'll hit a wider audience: http://www.mlponies.com/2012/04/30/seed ... rica-grow/

Is there anywhere that's tracking total donations from the community? 28k for the first album, 10k to Maddy Peters's charity... it all adds up and it would be a nice talking point about the community.

Awesome, thanks!

The Massive Smile Project is now available for free right here : Instant :-D Button
It's a shame EqD was so late, people missed the best half of the stream :pinkieshrug:

And there's more stuff coming down the road! Even more songs will be added to the album as they are completed, all of them released for free, including what I already consider to be Makkon's best work yet by far. It will make you cry.

And let's not forget the Humble Indie bundle, sitting at 24k right now! That's, like, $65,000 or something, in what, six months. This weekend's 24-hour marathon alone raised $8,000, counting both this and Art For Africa. Crazy.

And as a reminder, to get the album, you have nothing moer to do than just donate! The instructions are only for people donating over $50 to get a game, or aiming for the top prizes.

So I just did a quick check, and it turns out that Seeds of Kindness has received 9,361€ ... or the equivalent of $12,383.96 USD, more than enough to fund the construction for that $10,000 Ugandan clinic! :awesomedash:

Keep up the donations though! We still got a Green Village in Burundi that needs creating!

Despite my chronic brokeness, I contributed exactly one Euro to that total! You're welcome. :vogue:

The album is amazing, and has enlightened me to the existence of many talented artists. I dislike precisely one song on it; everything else breaks down to 20% merely listenable, 60% cute and lovely, and 20% :-D. Worth well over what I could afford!

I'm liking all the ambient-like tracks and prefer the ones that aren't overly techno-y. I was pretty disappointed with Feeling Whimsical because it starts out nice but then turns into a happy hardcore song. Still, pretty good album and it was all a lot less pony-centric than I thought so it wouldn't be embarrassing to put some of these tracks on a playlist.

This is literally one of the best things I've seen. It fucking rules when random people on the internet get together and do a thing that gives money to people and places that need it. I will check out the music once my head stops hurting.

If you did bookmark that page after donating, or still have it in your history, you can find here an updated album with improved versions of Ponyville Nights, Hva Kommer fra Havet and The Morning And!

Yea, lots of amazing ambient tracks in this one, not sure why, but I sure ain't complaining about it.

I hope you got better! But yea, this, so much this, it's crazy. And you know what I really like? While I did read that kind of thing in EqD comments, I don't recall hearing even a single artist involved patting themselves on the back, seeing this as a success of the fandom or anything like that. Everyone is thanking everyone else for giving them the opportunity to do good, and already eager to do another one. Looking back at it, that wasn't done purposefully, but if not from the mention of My Little Remix, there would be no way to link this as a pony community project by looking at the donation page. It might also be why there are so few pony-related songs in this album, it's just a bunch people who happened to have found each other from the show working together to do some good. No more, no less. And that's awesome.

It just reached €15,000, so there is more than enough for the clinic, but we still need €17,500 more for the Green Village! The funds will be transferred soon, with an update from Your Siblings in the next few days.

In the mean time, for the musicians and artists out there, we will launch a follow-up event next August to fund the rest of the Green Village (then possibly an orphanage and chicken farm in Uganda). If you want to submit a song to the next album, Faithful And Strong, please head over there : http://mylittleremix.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=2849
If you want to contribute prizes, or items for auctions, please contact us at broniesforgood (at) gmail (dot) com!

Thanks again to everyone who helped! Keep being awesome.

Starting this evening at 6pm PST/9pmEDT, Everfree Radio will host a 3 hour long livestream, tied in with a 24h gaming marathon by Ponies Live Now, to complete the funding of the Green Village as well as support Kiki's treatment fund. Only around €1,500 more are needed for the village and €3,000 to provide an orphanage in Tanzania with a chicken poultry, then subsequent donations will go toward another orphanage in Uganda. There will be tons of guests, convention staff and artists and musicians and surprises, oh my :ohboy:
Also planned is a coffee-powered me rambling about Seeds of Kindness in a terrible fancy accent, and even though Lisa Wiese (head of Your Siblings) cannot attend, she recorded a heartfelt open letter to the pony fan community!
There will be TONS of giveaway prizes as a cunning plot to drag in the greedy ones, so be sure to tune in!

This just in: the voice of Applebloom and singing voice of Sweetie Belle, Michelle Creber, will also show up in the stream!

Going on right now, right here: http://everfreeradio.com/?page_id=2706
I'll be there in around 20mn, along with other BfG staff, the second chair of Your Siblings and possibly the head if she can make it from Egypt. There will at least be a recording of an open letter from her! Done, graced EFR viewers with terrible elocution and botched up grammar in a true fancy accent :vogue:

Michelle will join in 15mn, at around 2:30 UTC!

The Green Village and the Tanzanian orphanage are now fully funded too. The clinic is now completely built, and they are working on getting the equipment and setting everything up. If you haven't already, you have to watch this:

As you may have read on the front page, we are rebooting Seeds of Kindness to fund an orphanage in Uganda, and we could use some more help! The album Faithful and Strong is nearing completion, so we hope to launch everything by the end of the month.

For the PMV artists out there that could feel inspired to do so, a good video could help a lot with the promotion of the whole projet. Here, just for you™, an exclusive peek at the title song, Faithful and Strong (That's What I Want To Be) :twasnothin:
If you're interested, please just shoot me a PM, thanks!

We're also looking for prizes for the top donors, such as plushies, merch, commissions or anything pony-related, really. You can think of it as a blind auction, except that eBay or taxes aren't taking any commission, you get to donate directly to the charity without any middle man. Last time the three biggest donations were something like €3,000, €2,500 and €2,000, so it really does help a ton

And be sure to check out the Ponies: The Anthology II charity store is the mean time!
