I was going to say that my major beef with Fallout: Equestria is that one of the most popular MLP fanfics is a crossover with a completely unrelated video game, but then I flipped over to the pony game thread and remembered that three of the most heavily-hyped fan game projects even on this forum are a Mario Kart clone, an Ace Attorney clone, and a fighting game.

...Maybe "creative" isn't exactly the right word for this fandom after all.

I can't tell if Scuderia's new custom title with the Blossomforth av is still a soccer movie reference or now a bad 90's catchphrase reference. :pinkieshrug:

EDIT: Also, I think synthorange was Tara Strong's "Ladybugs Awake" double.

To be fair, it's kinda hard to come up with a decent video game adaptation of anything. Good licensed games tend to be few and far between.

In my opinion, the video game genres that could fit best would be an adventure game, a puzzle game or a simulation game.

A harvest moon/rune factory clone would of been literally the perfect pony game second place goes to a zelda/okami/mario/lost vikings clone.

Wasn't there a guy here makeing a flash pony metroidvania was that every finished what happened to that.

M.A. Larson conducted Twitter polling on the best Coen brothers movies today.

Fans: 1) Lebowski 2) Raising AZ 3) O Brother Where Art Thou 4) Hudsucker Proxy 5) True Grit (worst: Intolerable Cruelty, Ladykillers, The Man Who Wasn't There)
Larson: 1) O Brother Where Art Thou 2) A Serious Man 3) No Country 4) Raising AZ 5) Barton Fink (worst: Blood Simple)
Chris Savino: 1) Millers Crossing 2) O Brother 3) Hudsucker Proxy 4) Raising Arizona 5) Blood Simple (worst: Burn After Reading)

Also, Larson's favorite character to write is Rarity.

I'd expect so. In terms of mannerisms, I'd say Rarity is second only to Pinkie in just how crazy she can act while not going out of character, and sometimes she doesn't even need to be set off to do some of the more wild things that she does (I.E. the whole dramatic bit after Rarity finds SB's "art project" and breaks down, mourning the loss of her only sister like she died or something and not just hanging out at Sweet Apple Acres)

I should be higher. :rainbert:
(also Fargo is their best movie)

That's actually kind of interesting about Rarity when you consider Larson's episodes, the most Rarity-centric is probably "Secret of My Excess", with "Sonic Rainboom" being second...though of the more "group" episodes he's written it seems like Rarity always gets a scene.

Of mild interest:

http://www.google.com/insights/search/# ... op=&cmpt=q

Ever since the finale (when it peaked), people searching for My Little Pony/Friendship is Magic/etc has dropped down about 40%; this doesn't seem that surprising, but last year it was actually growing during this time period. That being said, it's still being searched for more than it was at this time in 2011.

Take whatever conclusions you'd like from that.

Well, we'll probably never again see an explosion in :ponydrugs: like we saw in the early days. Those were crazy times, man -- revolutionary times, the Summer of Pony Love. Now that we're two seasons in, the fandom has likely (for lack of a better word) matured; from this point on, a level of interest that's reasonably high and reasonably stable is about what we should expect. So I read this as good and not-terribly-surprising news.

Pretty much every metric I've followed suggests that the rate of the teen/adult fanbase's growth slowed dramatically around the time S2 started. This was also the time that Youtube takedowns started, and of course the time when school started up again. It's hard to separate those factors from the saturation of the show's natural base of internet-savvy animation, comic, and fantasy/sci-fi geeks. It seems like most of the new fans are younger teens being exposed by friends, or parents being exposed by their kids, or people who cracked after months of actively ignoring the show.

I expect that many long term fans aren't going to be googling "my little pony: friendship is magic." Still, looking at that dip, I wonder whether a significant chunk of current fans are also spending more time on series like Korra in the offseason this summer. The heavy obsession phase doesn't last that long for most. In most respects I think it's a good thing. The fanbase is large enough that we're going past 65 episodes, which is the most important issue. I'll be interested to see how toy sales look in the next two quarterly reports, though.

Yeah, I agree the Google trends metric isn't perfect for that reason, but I still suspect the finale was peak brony. :smirk:

Also interesting: chart indicates Scandanavia digs some ponies. Between that info and this chart I have to imagine they love Neighslayer.

Looking at the Google chart, I'm willing to bet most of those searches from Finland came from me! :crack: I'm somewhat surprised at the show's popularity in here, though I guess it's somewhat related to the culture, as I've noticed watching shows beyond your age demographic isn't really "frowned upon" or anything. In fact, it seems like a pretty normal thing here. I guess the popularity of the 90's Moomin TV series has something do with it. After all, it is a prime example of a show that's popular beyond its target demographic, even if it isn't aimed at as young an audience as FiM is.

Also, thanks for mentioning Neighslayer! I checked it out, and as it turns out, they did exactly what I wanted someone to do: make a metal cover of Winter Wrap-Up. For some weird reason, I always thought that was a good song for something like that.

Regarding the national distribution of searches, I wonder how much of that reflects English language use. "Mi pequeno pony" looks pretty different. The other non-Anglosphere countries with fairly high search rates for the English terms are Poland and the Philippines. Correct me if I'm wrong, CW, but my impression is that residents of the Scandanavian countries tend to be more comfortable with English than most of the rest of Europe.

Barton Fink wrote:I still suspect the finale was peak brony.

That's pretty much what I suspect too. Maybe there'll be a very slightly higher peak next season depending on the quality of S3, how the move to shorter seasons goes, whether Hub can get onto some basic cable packages, whether some people peel off into things like Care Bears, etc.

Yeah, I mostly meant that as a joke, but I assume the association of AKR and Morrow with the series will get many to give it a look. I'm not very optimistic because it's the same animation studio that did Strawberry Shortcake and the previews suggest there'll be a human kid mixed in as an audience surrogate, but if I've learned anything from this pony saga, it's that thing about books and covers.

I'll agree that the residents of the Nordic countries are pretty comfortable with English (I like to bring up myself as an example in these kinds of discussions, I'm so comfortable with English that I often even think in English), but I think it should be pointed out that "My Little Pony" is a brand name and thus it's pretty difficult to find anything related to it without using the original English name. Especially since I'm fairly certain none of the Nordic countries even have a translation for "My Little Pony." I know Finland doesn't, the official title only translates "Friendship is Magic" (and does that pretty stupidly, too, but I'll leave that rant out) and keeps "My Little Pony" as it is.

I need a good pony version of China. Any ideas? The only one I've had is "Zhong-ma", which is based on the Mandarin name for China, Zhong Hua (The Middle Kingdom), and then 'ma' means horse (among other things).

Any other suggestions?

Not sure if this is region locked, but a new comedy gameshow about words/language called Randling on ABC (australia) started recently and the latest episode had a pretty neat segment in the contenst called "Plane or Pony" where the teams had to guess if 3 names were planes or mlp characters/toys.

Segment is about 2 minutes in: http://www.abc.net.au/tv/randling/stories/s3509449.htm
