Re: Which element is your IQ on an average day?
My IQ is somewhere between 124 and 135. The latter is what I apparently got as a score in Elementary school, and the former is what an online test gave me a couple years back. Meaning as SA says yes the Internet does make you stupid. I am most likely dumber now. Except lots of other people are amazingly dumb akin to what I would be to an actual smart person.
So my Element is... Heart maybe/ Its not listed as the numbers don't go that high.

Re: Which element is your IQ on an average day?
IQ tests are possibly mildly useful if you absolutely need a quantitative measure of someone's ability to think and reason (never mind the difficulty in constructing a test that is fair for people of all backgrounds) but they are absolute garbage as a measure of the worth of a person in general, and I say that as someone who was tested to have an IQ of 144 back when I was six years old.

Re: Which element is your IQ on an average day?
The main issue is that the type of "intelligence" they measure is intensely limited

Re: Which element is your IQ on an average day?
and even then, if that specific narrow type of intelligence is what you wanna measure, you have to do several tests and average them out because people perform differently based on a whole host of factors

Re: Which element is your IQ on an average day?
IQ tests and similar quantitative measures of a person's aptitudes are mainly useful for giving a person an unearned sense of accomplishment and an unjustified ego. Not that liking yourself is bad. But.
This leads to problems. For example, a person may coast on their ability to do decently well without effort, justifying themselves with the belief that they 'could' do far better if they 'wanted' to, until they finally reach a level at which some modicum of self-application of required and discover that they have failed to develop the work ethic and study habits that are, in point of fact, far more important for success.
This may lead to the person almost dropping out of college even though if they just fucking applied themselves for ten seconds they could have gotten straight A's, wasting thousands of dollars of their parents' money and ensuring a future in which getting into postgraduate programs or securing a job is far more difficult than it needed to be.
The question that should be asked at this point is, is this person really smarter than another person who received average scores on their IQ/SAT/whatever but worked hard enough to achieve their goals?

also irrespective of my rant up there, which is DEFINITELY NOT related to my own life AT ALL, im pretty sure that this was a joke thread that did not need a serious discussion about the shortcomings of the IQ test, myriad though they may be
in light of that i will now attempt to make a 'cool joke' for 'fun times' here goes

If you have a high IQ, it means you're good at logic. That's it.

I can't even remember the last time I played Intelligent Qube.
Hell, I don't think I even owned that game, I think I just had like a small demo on one of those old Playstation magazine demo discs or something.

But the real question is what is all of our Midichlorian counts? Or whatever they use in Parasite Eve to measure Mitochondria that lets you make things explode and burn. DBZ Power Levels too. Or D&D XP levels... BUT WHICH EDITION? And as humans do we count dual classing XP?
(I also had an ASVAB score of 87. Doesn't help much when you can fall asleep standing up in learning by rote memorization as is how Navy A schools teach pretty much. Also my aforementioned IQ shoulda got me into Elementary School's Gifted and Talented but my troubles with math at the time kept me from it. Help me achieve my potential or maybe discover whatever sadbrains/ADD I might have? LOL NO GET REKT. )

my experience as a student who was in the gifted program and now as a teacher who works some of the time with gifted program kids is it turns roughly half of them into entitled, arrogant little shits who don't do any of the work but see themselves as better than the rest of the class regardless
it was worse when they separated the 'gifted' kids into a different class, but that practice has fortunately ceased, at least in this district

I was in a gifted class. We had a great teacher but being separated from my friends made me sad so went to the normal class for fifth grade. aaand that was a terrible class and I really probably shouldn't have done that but welp

Re: Which element is your IQ on an average day?
I was in an ordinary class for all of my subjects. The classes which got the most attention were the gifted class and the "needs support" classes. Our class, on the other hand, was left to its own devices. To illustrate: often there wasn't even a teacher present in our classroom, and we'd spend most of our time filling in photocopied generic worksheets. This is while the gifted students went out on excursions and while the students who need support often had one on one tuition. I'm not complaining about that, because in a way it makes sense. You'll see where I'm going with this later.
I was able to get by without any real effort in school, except in the subject of mathematics this one time (emphasis on the fact that's an exception). For the most part I cruised through school, winding up with mostly B grades. While it does mean that I was somehow able to learn the material, I missed out on learning life's most important lesson: hard work hurts, but that pain is a good thing which reaps rewards and defeats later suffering.
The people who needed support and the people who were seen as gifted were always pushed to stretch themselves. The people who needed support had people around them trying to push them through the average level work which was difficult for them. The people who were gifted had people around them constantly pushing them through the most difficult work available in order to make it difficult for them. This could sometimes be stressful for them, but for some it taught them how to work hard. Those guys are the high flyers now. The important detail here is that I'm not just talking about the gifted students who went on to huge careers. I'm also talking about the struggling students who are now mostly business owners and private contractors who earn quite well.
I, on the other hand, was given worksheets of a level I could coast through while half asleep.
As far as I can see it's not IQ that determined their success, but how much they learned to suck it up and tackle their life head on. To sum up: I don't wish I was smarter. I wish I was tougher and more proactive.
