Okay, so I'll be hosting something less painful this weekend (June 23rd, 5:00 PM CDT) -- the animated version of The Lord of the Rings! First, we start off with The Hobbit, made by Rankin/Bass, followed by the (in)famous Ralph Bakshi version of The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers. Finally, we'll end with The Return of the King, again made by Rankin/Bass. Hope to see you all there!

You can't show the Ralph Bakshi version without showing this work of art:

The people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country.

Bad news guys: street fighter got blocked for like, three different things when I tried uploading it, so it's a no go.

But we will get some goddamn Raul Julia with the MST3k of Overdrawn at the Memory Bank as the replacement for that movie!

Thanks to everyone who stuck through this week! The selection wasn't ideal, but it worked out just fine. I don't know what I'll be doing for next week, but I got a few good ideas.

Well, until next time, GO HOME AND BE A FAMILY MAN!

I promised this was gonna be special this week, and oh boy do I got a doozy for you guys this week:

Mama-mia! It's Super B-Movie Brothers Week!

First up, we got a family movie: The Wizard. Well, okay, it's less a genuine movie, and it's more like a massive advertisement for nintendo games. Especially for the classic Super Mario Bros 3, given how it had it's public reveal through this movie. It's got it's plot, and it's about a kid who ran away from home to go to a video game tournament, and is chased by this bounty hunter type guy who's trying to find him for one of his parents, and his dad who is looking for the kid himself. But no one actually cares, cause everyone wants to see the shit about the GAMES. You'll love this movie. It's so bad.

The second feature will be the main event: Super Mario Bros. If you've even heard of this movie, you know that it's about as good as you can expect out of a movie based on a video game. But y'know, I personally like it. It has a certain charm that I just love about it. It's by no means a good movie, but I enjoy it, and I hope you guys will have fun watching it. And for those who haven't seen it, then you're in for something special with this movie.

Whoa, I was remembering this with Momar and Femto just yesterday. :starity:
I'd actually watched this movie long before I ever played a Mario game. It is the very definition of Image

Well, there's a reason for that. :crack: Mario brothers movie is a case study in why IP management matters. Hasbro keeps a tight reign on what their characters can and can't do.

Your facial expression at the end of this -

Well that was ... strange.

Bob Hoskins (who played Mario) has spoken critically of Super Mario Bros., saying that it was "the worst thing I ever did" and that "the whole experience was a nightmare" in a 2007 interview with The Guardian.[11] In another interview with The Guardian, Hoskins answered Super Mario Bros. to three of the questions he was asked, "What is the worst job you've done," "What has been your biggest disappointment," and "If you could edit your past, what would you change?"[12]

:gotcha:

The Wizard is a slightly twisted beautiful love letter from nintendo in the 80's. :memories:
I'd also recommend the first Ninja Turtles movie for that late 80's feel.

I will be there for that one. Due to previous obligations(Graspop Metal Meeting, Red Cross volunteer work on the campsite) I had to miss saturday's showing. Last time I watched this movie, it was in German and quite a few years ago, but I still remember most of the details.

And I still haven't seen The Hobbit or Return of the King...

As for Super Mario Bros, I imported a US DVD of it a few years ago since I never found a R2 version of it. That movie is both horrible and actually pretty decent.

So to those going to Bronycon and missing out on this week's synch: how would an encore of this week's b-movie synch be on the following friday at the usual time?

I'm gonna be hosting a Ninja Independence Day synch the next day anyways, so it's no real loss as far as repeating material or whatnot if I do an encore. My only request is that if I am to do an encore, that you guys come and watch it!

I'd host it then except: 1) it's a holiday, and 2) it's my grandmother's birthday that day. Seriously.

Besides, nothing is more patriotic than celebrating an american holiday four days later by watching movies about ninjas who may or may not be american.
