I ordered a couple of ponies on taobao earlier this month. They arrived in the mail today. :awesomedash:

So my friends birthday is coming up, and they're a pretty big Twilight Sparkle fan. I want to get them something Twilight Sparkle related, but I'm almost positive they'd own most Twilight Sparkle-related merch.

Any ideas?

Question for people more familiar with old pony than I am: I got a surprise gift of a pony from my mum, who found it on the road. Here it is next to my blindbag Rarity for size comparison.
Image
(earth pony, cutie mark is a silver star with two purple trails)
Apparently pretty recent due to still having sticky tape on the mane and tail when Mum found it, but it looks a hell of a lot like a G1 to me... but I didn't know they made G1s that small, or they made smaller ones with the brushie manes that weren't McDonalds related. :pinkieshrug: Can anyone ID her, and how old she actually is?

EDIT: Seems to be Glory, but as an earth pony rather than a unicorn (no indication that the horn was ever there, so I'm assuming production mistake). Still unsure about the size or recent issue though.

--

With the news in that collectors article that Fashion Style Derpy is going to be at UK PonyCon, maybe I'll have a chance of snagging one from their website after it's over. Or maybe they'll sell out in five seconds to eBay scalpers. :-/

If you think they'd own most of the released merch, you could maybe commission or make something for them? :-I

Or buy them a huge book and stick a Twilight Sparkle bookmark in there. :v:

Were there brushable Dolly Mix ponies? That's about the right size and they did a run of G1 characters in the last few years.

Edit: Yes, that's exactly what she is. Dolly Mix Glory. Neat find, they're pretty rare.

That's...actually a really good idea. Now to decide if plushy, statue thingy, or artwork.

Here's the info about them: http://mylittlewiki.org/wiki/Dolly_Mix
They were actually blind bag ponies themselves.

What I find interesting is the G1 versions came out in 2010, including Firefly and Medley. So Hasbro was able to release them 2 years ago, yet they can't now or use them in the show?

Maybe they just didn't think Firefly & Medley would be as big of moneymakers now as reusing MORE PINKIE PIE AND RAINBOW DASH! ? :pinkieshrug:

Oh right, and here's where more G1/G3 confusion comes from, since these are G1 characters rendered in G3 toy molds and packaging artwork even! Those G1s, think they can just cross over into any other style...

Edit: And I just read that a batch of Dolly Mix Glory was made in an earth pony mold by mistake, which is kind of funny after seeing this story.

Octavia is now cannon, and Time Turner is really the best name they could have done without a call from the BBC.

Whoever's responsible for these cards is officially awesome. Makes me wonder if other characters would have different names if they had been in charge of things sooner.

Hmm.

I guess this proves that Hasbro doesn't have the right to use Bon-Bon's name anymore, after all. Otherwise why wouldn't she be in this one instead of Golden Harvest?

That IS odd, considering everything attributed to Carrot Top is more or less exactly what Bon-Bon does with Lyra in the show (right down to the rooftop bouncing), and there's even a joke about the duplicity in every single crowd scene at the start that Bon-Bon would be much better for use with (since I count her more in every crowd instead of Carrot).

They're definitely conveying what makes the world and the characters so interesting. Sure it's mostly about Twilight and her friends, but there's a fairly large rollicking cast of side characters who aren't just set dressing but have lives all their own, and begs your imagination to fill them out, thus making FiM fun for all ages. :yay:

Kronos wrote:Does anybody have a site where all the cards are compiled for everybody to see the full set of released cards?

The cards were premiered at the con yesterday, and won't see wide release for a few weeks. Hold your horses.

My favourite small detail on the trading cards is the trademark symbol. I can see someone at Hasbro thinking "welp, we've got all of these background/secondary ponies trademarked now, may as well make toys of every single one". :gotcha:

(The other small details are great too. :awesomedash: )

Hasbro seems to be making some cool moves with the toys/accessories as of lately, but I'm still waiting for those good looking official plushies before I hurl ridiculous amounts of money at them.

For people getting ponys off Taobao, how are you going about that? It's always sounded kinda complicated and intimidating. A quick rundown of the process would be amazing.

You can either wait for a group buy on MLP Arena (easiest) or go through a taobao broker. Obook seems to be most reputable, you email them what items you want and they get you a quote back and you go from there. there's also buyfromtaobao.com which is more automated but i don't know how reliable they are.

I feel like I should warn everyone that, due to limitations of the printing process, Zecora's rings and stripes don't go all the way around her legs, but just stop at certain points around the outside.

But does she have Zebra stripes on both sides? The normal ponies may be able to get away with having the cutie mark on only one side, but Zecora can't simply be striped on one side.

I'm definitely not going to collect the cards because I KNOW I will get horribly addicted to them until I have every single one, but my friend Steve gifted me the Discord card at Bronycon and I love it. The fact that the text on the back of the card is actually printed upside down amuses me way more than it should.

Was it absolutely necessary for five people to go "Woomod look at this trixie toy, also come back" every time a trixie toy came out? :-/
