In the EqD comments on the big card pack I just posted in the toy thread:

When we pitched the cards, we did not include anything about another Element. That had to have been a Hasbro decision, as it was out of our hands! We're just as puzzled as you are. ~Wendy

Wendy is in that EqD interview on the three who worked on what cards would go into this, so I think this is trustworthy... yet another thing to keep an eye on, I guess. Maybe the Octavia / DJ-PON3 thing was these three being hopeful fanboys on the matter, but I can potentially see the Elements of Harmony forcefully expanding to 7 elements / 8 ponies ... it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, hopefully giving Shining & Cadance time to be characterized more, but potentially progressing the mandating of the wedding set beyond... the actual wedding... :nngh:

tldr: There's signs pony structure may change soon and I'm speculating & worrying when I probably shouldn't be :v:

Well, she was already upper echelon in the Canterlot aristocracy - personally tutored by the ruling Princess, brother captain of the Royal Guard, foalsat by another Princess and now that same Princess is her sister-in-law :-I

The tutoring could be explained by talent. The latter part, not so much.

Twilight's place in society prior to her being selected has been left undefined, though she at least got some parents out of her flashback.

She did live in Canterlot, which we've seen referred to as being a place that has a reputation for being refined and cultured, and in other episodes we see it has a lot of the upper crust there.
That doesn't mean Twilight's family was one of those elite, as the depiction in "The Cutie Mark Chronicles" showed many apparently average festival goers. That episode avoided the more classist subtext that popped up at the Gala and smacked Rarity across the face in "Sweet and Elite", but if we were to extrapolate a bit from other cases of getting into an elite school, that could imply they weren't lower-class.
One possible writing slip-up in the flashback was that Celestia knew Twilight's name when she stopped her rampage. If that were accepted as being intended, that meant Twilight's family moved in higher circles even prior to her being taken under Celestia's wing.

The Canterlot wedding episode and the decision to make Cadance an alicorn and a princess had a constricting effect on the world setting by putting Twilight in contact with royalty at the very outset, prior to showing a talent in magic. Are we to expect that just anyone could have foalsitter from a few branches to the side of the monarch?
Given Twilight's social obliviousness, she might not have thought overmuch about her place in the strata of Canterlot, a rarified setting that has been explicitly more class-based than anywhere else.
Even the richest of the Rich family in Ponyville fit in with the struggling farmers, his spoiled daughter being the exception.

It is a bit interesting when you think about it, but Twilight's upbringing is basically the exact opposite of Rarity's.

I've been pondering Twilight's position in society. Even taking away Cadence, look at Twilight's room. That's not a room of someone who is lower class. Her family is probably like those of upper middle class working professionals—doctors, lawyers, so on. She's a bit sheltered and her needs are taken care of. Nobody had really pushed her... and that's what PC finally does in the pilot of the series.

Rarity goes ga-ga over Twilight's Canterlot roots, but Twilight is never fazed at all. Her place in society isn't much of a concern to her. It's an interesting picture of a misfit.

Yeah, I'm thinking too that Twilight's family is upper middle class, some sort of profession that allows them to provide for their daughter and give her good education. And once Twilight had been taken in by Celestia as her personal student, it was no wonder she just slipped more and more into high society and such.
No surprise that she didn't care for it, either - She would have had to be interested in "society" to begin with which was definitely not the case.

Also, Element of Love? Can't we have something powerful and magical that's NOT an element?
Really wondering what Hasbro is trying to imply with this one ... :iiam:

For months I've had this idea kicking around for a B-team composed of obvious expies of the original stars of Generation 3, where they cover all the same bases as the Main Six, but they aren't very good at what they do, though they often believe they're the best. This group of six may have been formed out of a rival neighborhood by Princess Luna in an attempt to do everything as well as her big sister. By amazing coincidence, they even have their own butler, a little orange dinosaur named Needles!

Inspired by the bad-imitators idea: I would like to see the school put on a HWE-style play about the defeat of Discord by the Mane Six. Even though it only happened a year ago and the ponies it portrays are sitting in the audience, it still manages to get lots of stuff completely wrong.

Spike is played by Fatkid, Twist plays Twilight Thparkle, and Princess Celestia is Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon in a horse costume.

Didn't someone do something like that in a story once? I recall it being kind of amusing, but I don't know if it would make for a good episode.

If there is a 7th Element, then Element of Helping Others had better become the 8th.

We've got a fall episode (and three if you count Nightmare Night and Applebuck season), one winter episodes, one winter/spring episode, and technically one spring if you count Hearts and Hooves day. But no summer episodes!

Come on, ponies at the beach. It would be awesome.

Can Pinkie Pie just say BEACH PARTY already? XD

Well, today I started wondering about what I'm going to do when I graduate college and I got an idea for an episode.

How about Twilight graduates from Celestia's school with a PhD in magic and is totally lost on what to do next. She'll worry that she might have to move back to Canterlot to get a real job. In the end, the Princess can give her a research grant to continue studying the magic of friendship, showing that government subsidies for scientific research are a good idea for the betterment of society.

Or maybe she can just continue to work as the town librarian, whatever works :-I

Voice/personality swap episode.

I mean, who DOESN'T want Twilight to start trying to say long sentences of complex words in AJ's southern accent? Or Pinkie Pie to become so shy that she ends up being a giant ball of energy that freaks out at everything due to Fluttershy's timidness becoming accelerated at the speed Pinkie's attention span works? Or, hell, Diamond Tiara's mind in Sweetie Belle and Rarity's reactions? Even the VA's want this!

Or better yet, a redemption episode for Trixie. We haven't had an episode where a previously established antagonist comes back, nobody trusts her due to previous actions/reputation, and in the end she proves she's reformed.
