We have not yet decided on the hosting company - jamartinezm is looking into technical details of the services - but we plan to get a 20 or 25 slot server.
I decided on funding this server because aside of the Gnintendo thing the old mlpony server was a fantastic place to play Minecraft on and, frankly, I don't think I could find a better minecraft community.

weedgoku wrote:By this I'm assuming that any ponygoons may invite non-ponygoon people they know personally. On the bluehell server I had a friend of mine play and build near me, would that be allowed?

That is the intention - after all I am barely a ponygoon myself. If you know somebody who may enjoy it here and fit in with the community, invite him or her. But don't spam the server link indiscriminately to your 300 friends on Steam.
And thank you for your offer to help with the first payment!

I would much like the idea of a ponygoons-only (and friends) server. I dunno how much I'd play though.

You could probably count me in, unless I get too distracted by other things or I forget. Will we have that thing where you can go to a website and look at an isomorphic view of the world, like mlpony had? I don't know how big of a strain that would be on the server.

I'd certainly join, but yeah, I'm not too sure how much I'd play. 1.3 looks interesting, but I've got other distractions occupying my time these days. I'd kinda like to see a tekkit server, but it looks like that's a minority opinion. Still, I'll probably join up, maybe hook up with someone else's build project rather than do my own, since I won't have much time to commit.

I'd say about 10 blocks, otherwise you wouldn't be able to see it properly when you spawn.

I kinda want to do a big project with people, Canterlot has come up a few times, I reckon it'd be fun but also kinda hard, no real white bricks apart from wool. Still, would be interesting if the right mountainside is found. Hopefully the map will have some nice areas and no error'd chunks like gnintendos

Edit: VVV A possibility but yeah, if people don't want tekkit then thats fine, gotta make do :pinkieshrug:

Well, the Tekkit pack seems to have marble. Could there be a way to get the marble but not the rest of the mod? (Since people seemed to have mentioned they don't want any mods.)

I think clans would be fun but we don't really need them. They're nice for locking chests to cities though.

Not only marble, but all the neat blocks that come in the redpower mod. It really does make it into pretty much a completely different game though, so I can dig why some people don't want it.

It's a real shame, the blocks and block fractions (half, quarter etc. blocks basically) from the Redpower mod are all so great for decoration/details but it also introduces machines, logic gates and some new ores.

People who are opposed to mods, is it because they change the gameplay too much or is it simply too much of a hassle to bother installing them just to play on the server? If it's the former, then maybe the Twilight Forest mod might be acceptable because it doesn't modify the main world generation, it just adds a new dimension. On the other hand it does have new monsters, bosses, a load of treasure and new crafting recipes that would give old players a greater advantage against new players. Livemap probably wouldn't work for the forest world either. For these reasons I don't think it'd end up being used, but it's nice to keep our options open :allears:

The current plan is to go into Minecraft 1.3 without any actually game-changing mods. Since vanilla 1.3 will probably become a bit boring on the long run too we'll have a (public) discussion about additional mods to help keep the game fresh sooner or later when we are fully settled in the new place.

We definitely aren't going to add something that changes basic game mechanics without a consensus within the community, though. Personally I have doubts that something as elaborate as Tekkit finds favour, but we'll see.

I actually enjoy vanilla minecraft's gameplay; I like how (relatively) simple everything is. Mods are okay I guess but I enjoy vanilla more. Now, mods like lockette and clan support are great because they don't effect the gameplay too much, they only enhance the multiplayer experience. The only gameplay changing mods that I would be okay with are combat mods as minecraft's combat system is barebones and not very interesting. :unenthused:

Clearly what we need to do is create our own mod that just contains the stuff we'd want. Marble, a crafting recipe for liquid rainbow, a lighting engine tweak that lets you build above the cloud layer without throwing the ground below into pitch blackness, a crafting recipe for cupcakes, more dye colors so we can build sculptures of more characters... um, book-fort blocks? ...you know, stuff.

That mob grinder / huge fucking castle was my contribution. All those hours of baking cobblestone, and painstakingly laying out the foundation for the darkroom. If you guys are planning to do MCEdit imports and need a hand with the grind, I'd be glad to help however I can. Maybe set up some sort of facility to help out interested parties. Lower the price of a block that doesn't occur ingame (like sponge), and have players lay one at each corner of a 'box select' they'd like to have saved.

As for what mods I'd like to see: Lockette, shops, no creeper damage, no endermen damage, and death chests. For the love of God, death chests. A finance system is sort of essential to a non-creative server. Having an easy way to get some of the more esoteric blocks (nether blocks, lightstone, etc etc etc) prevents people from fucking up large swaths of natural landscape to get the blocks they want, but still means they have to 'earn' them.

Why the fuck would we even consider using lockette? If you don't want people to steal your chests, hide them better.

We used Essentials on the BHP and mlpony.com servers, both include firespread protection, endermen and creeper protection.

Stuntman, that's a pretty dense and poorly informed statement. Lockette is great for automated doors and a nice first-stop measure against people stealing your shit if someone wants to grief you.

Yeah, not sure if you're serious but not having locked chests in multiplayer is pretty much objectively the worst thing ever. It's not like we're playing some kind of hardcore survival thing, PvP is off and stuff.
