I'm quoting that so it doesn't end up lost in the previous page.

It's no Monopoly but it should only take one game to get the hang of things, and since it's web-based you can just take your time and do your turn whenever you want. The manual's right here if you want to take a look. I'll probably do a little write-up if I make a thread.

Basically, you have several actions you can use each turn (Attack, defend, raid, stuff like that) and every player places theirs at the same time, in secret; then they're uncovered and people take turns performing their actions. There's no dice throws and the only randomness comes from cards that aren't hidden, so it's all about tactics, mindgames, diplomacy and backstabbing, which makes it perfect for playing here :gotcha:

What I'm doing now is watching season 2 very slowly while I re-read the second book, making sure that I'm always ahead of the episode.

I just watched the second episode and man, the differences from the book...

  • They really had to play up the whole What-does-Craster-do-with-his-sons deal. All they ever mentioned in the book was that he simply sacrificed them to the old gods and everyone was fine with it.
  • This also happened straight from the first episode, but what's with all this naked aggression everyone has with each other in King's Landing? Cersei openly accosts Littlefinger with guards, and Tyrion just looked insecure growling at Varys to not threaten him by visiting Shae.
  • What's the deal with Littlefinger and running his brothels? The TV series really makes it seem like this is the main source of all his money and he spends all his time coaching whores. I think the only time his brothels are ever relevant in the books was to offer Catelyn an unassuming place to meet with Ned.
  • At this point I'm over the fact that they renamed Asha to Yara, but I'm kind of sad that they cut short her introduction short and I really wanted to see her antics during the feast (unless I'm speaking too soon and they included this in the third episode).
  • Rakharo dies? What?
  • I'm actually kind of okay with the whole Melisandre tempting Stannis thing, even if Stannis' character would suggest otherwise that he doesn't give a shit about sexual advances. I mean, it could even be possible within the books' means because they never get into more details behind why Stannis even listens to her beyond his actual wife being a fanatic of the religion.
I can respect some of these changes because they seemed to be allowed only so many episode per season and that they can simply be a closer look at some events that went without explicit detail.

Of all the changes made in the show, the added nudity and sex scenes annoy me. Yes, they're present in the book, but it just seems like the show adds them when they can, becasue they can. Least in the book it usually feels like there is a good reason fo it.

Season 3 casting news. They have a few big ones that I assume they're leaving for later. Nothing all that spoilery for people who haven't read the books.

Guy playing Bryndon looks perfect, also liking to look of all the "Brotherhood without Banners"

I'm very curious how they're going to introduce the Reeds.

Can't wait to see who they get to play Mance
Small Storm of Swords book spoiler:
How amazing would it be if he was cast 3 years ago, and was actually at the feast in Winterfell in episode 1

I'm curious about Mackenzie Crook as Orell. In the books, Orell was one of the wildlings killed by Jon and Halfhand when they first encountered Ygritt. In the show the people with her were never named. I can only assume he's being combined with a few of the other named wildlings into a character for the show.

I've been reading the books and just ignoring the show. But I'm just waiting for until the people following the show instead get to the end of the third book (fourth season?) when the story goes full Homestuck on them. (Not a spoiler, it doesn't include meteors or anything, just was the most fitting expression I could come up with.)

The way I understand it is that seasons will not be books recaps anymore, because of how less linear the stories become. I don't know if they could do 2 full seasons from the third book, I think the line is going to be very blurry between books from now on.

Dany is pretty much the only easy one to handle because her arc is totally separated from what is going on in Westros, and to a lesser extent so is Jon's story.

I just finished A Storm of Swords (last night actually) and my predictions for season 3...

:sweetielarm: MASSIVE SPOILERS BELOW. DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVE NOT READ A STORM OF SWORDS. :sweetielarm:

To be blunt, the first half doesn't have too much happen. I think they might go ahead far enough to allow both Robb and Jeoffey's deaths. Maybe even going the same route as Ned in season 1 and have Jeoffey die in the 2nd to last episode, and Tyrion's trial after. I don't think they would go all the way to his escape. Have the season end with him being condemned. I can also see them having both weddings at the same time, to play up Millisandre's mysticism. Tyrion has been the stand out character on the show, and nothing really happens to him at all until the Wedding.

As for the other characters...

I think they'll have Arya learn of Robb and Cat's death from the brothers, rather than being present at the Twins. In her depression, she runs away and is captured by The Hound. I see them ending Jon's story with his escape from the Wildings, and Dany's story ending after she takes that first city. Jamie arrives at King's Landing.

When asked what he's most looking forward to seeing put on screen, GRRM said...

"I don't know that the word 'looking forward to' is the word I want, but I'm anticipating but also dreading a certain event with the initials R.W., and that's all I can say about it,"

After finding out more and more people I know who watch the show but don't read the books, I am just GIDDY waiting for the next season and when that thing involving R.W. happens.

Oh yeah, and just by re-reading book 3, there's no way in hell Jaime's going to survive visiting Catelyn/Stoneheart because I totally forgot that right as Roose Bolton kills Robb, he says "Jaime Lannister sends his regards." This is going to be so fucked up because Jaime was currently on his way back to King's Landing and had nothing to do with planning the Red Wedding. I also forgot that Jaime offhandedly tells Roose to say that to Robb, but I don't think he had any knowledge that the betrayal was coming. Now Catelyn's going to remember that line and will probably get Jaime hanged or have Jaime/Brianne fight their way out while making Catelyn look like the bad guy; both of which is going to suck because I want see Catelyn take her vengeance on the Freys instead.

I got really excited when I saw that there was a Melisandre chapter. She is the most mysterious character and it felt like I got to read something I wasn't supposed to. :awesomedash:

Randomly looked up season 3 and they have the premiere date already set. Guess I missed it whenever they announced it:

Again, I'm super stoked mostly to see the reactions of my friends who only watch the TV series. So much fun! April-June is going to be really fun this year.

^^ RW is like 60% into book 3 (chapter 51 out of 81). I'd say it's fairly in the middle.

No one really knows how they're going to split up the events of all of book 3, but I've always leaned on the side of RW in this coming season because of this quote by GRRM:

I don't know that the word 'looking forward to' is the word I want, but I'm anticipating but also dreading a certain event with the initials R.W., and that's all I can say about it.

It doesn't confirm that it will be this season, but given that most other big events of book 3 are happening AFTER the Red Wedding, I think the Red Wedding would be suitable for this coming season's finale. I was typing up a bunch of theories about what can be cut off into the 4th season, but all of it seems fine if they stick to the chronology of events by the book if they do include the Red Wedding for this season. Right after the Red Wedding, they have: Sansa going to Littlefinger and ending with the the Moon Door, adventures of Arya and Sandor, assault on The Wall (although I'd like this season to end without Ygritte dying, that would make a good season finale on Jon's end), probably play up more drama and the rift forming between Jaime and Cersei, Brienne's secret mission, and Tyrion's trial.

I honestly don't know how they'll divide up or play up Daenerys' story throughout both season 3-4 though, because while they still haven't finished her events from book 2 last season, they may have to greatly play up some of the battles she gets into in book 3 to last them through season 4 as well.

Y'all best be careful about throwing the initials "RW" in the next thread I make unless it's spefically the following phrase: "Do not google 'Game of Thrones' and the initials 'RW.'"
:butwhy:

Anyway, with the new season coming up, I figure this thread has run its course. I'll create a new one in March.
