Don't feel bad, Germany has the very same problem. That's why, against my better judgement, I preordered the set box like a boss.

Region 4 (Aussie DVDs) can be played in most of the pacific, south america and also Mexico, if you live in the US (or anywhere really) just buy some mexican DVD player or something (or a region free player, shouldn't be too hard to find cheaply)

Edit: Or that VVVV If you are technically minded.

Or you just unlock your current DVD player.
Works with most run of the mill models.

There's still the PAL-> NTSC problem, unless your DVD player has HDMI or DVI out (which I guess most do these days).

Most PC drives and DVD software will let you switch regions. My DVD software (PowerDVD) "officially" only allows 5 region switches, but you can fix that by just deleting a specific cache file in the program's folder. That resets the number of switches, making it essentially a region-free player, and it's not a big hassle to do. It also doesn't have any of the usual PAL/NTSC conversion problems, like speed up. edit: A lot of laptops also have HDMI-out these days (mine does), and I don't think PAL/NTSC should be a factor on any modern HDTV, so you could rig it up to watch it on your TV if you have an HD set.

That said, importing the whole season like this would seem to be very expensive, so yeah. Personally I can't afford to do it, but I'm glad some company out there takes it more seriously than Shout! Factory and their lame "themed" discs. :-/

If Hasbro hadn't specifically made the themed releases a condition of the contract, I think Shout would have put the DVDs out in order. Clearly Hasbro don't care as much about Germany or Australia, or perhaps the market research data indicates that themed releases aren't as popular there as they are in the US or something. :pinkieshrug:

What I will say is that Shout really does need to get some decent bonus features going, because otherwise there's going to be a really big drop off in sales. Friendship Express had the benefit of being the first one, along with Derpygate providing an additional incentive to own it. If Royal Pony Wedding doesn't provide something extra, I can't see it doing anywhere near as well, and US DVD #3 may perform even worse. I've pre-ordered Royal Pony Wedding, but if it's as sparse as Friendship Express, I'll wait for subsequent ones to actually come out and see what extras are on them first.

So uh, on the spine of each Australian DVD volume is one of the main gang. Twilight is on the first, Applejack on the second. But there's only 5 volumes.

I pointed that out in my review. There are also only going to be 5 posters/reverse cover inserts and only 5 disks (there are ponies printed on the disk, Applebloom is one of them)

And for season 2 do they repeat the main 6 characters and have different poses/faces or will side characters appear on the places by season 2 and 3?

Edit: VVVV The box is Pink...

Third US DVD has apparently been confirmed for the 4th of December. Unfortunately, the title is an S3 spoiler:
Adventures in the Crystal Kingdom

Seems odd that they'll be mixing all three seasons together. Was going to add some more speculation, but it's kind of spoiler-ish, so I'll take it to the spoiler thread.

Extended intro sing-a-long was on the USA Friendship express DVD, so they were probably just given that by Hasbro with the source files.

We know Rarity is on the spine and cover insert poster thing. Whos on the disk and menu screen?

Apparently Germany is getting a full S1 release with English options.

I am half-expecting shitty quality on this and it doesn't say how many DVDs it will take, but... seems to be another step forward.

EDIT: Looks like it takes 4 DVDs to get through ~12 eps... so meh.

The DVDs are in 576p and 2.0 Digital Stereo in both languages with no region lock.
Of course it's not superfantastic Blu Ray quality, but hoo boy am I happy to finally get a decent season 1 release that's not region locked! :yay:

I'll be honest, when watching my first FiM episode (Call of the Cutie), I thought Apple Bloom was Applejack's daughter.

Although, geez, how old is Applejack if Granny Smith is her daughter? AJ aged really well.

You know, I was going to say I'd believe it if you told me AJ and Big Mac had originally been husband and wife at some point during development but then got changed to brother and sister because that's more relateable to children, but to be honest I'd probably still think that's kind of a stretch.

It's quite an achievement that none of the family relationships went right in the text. Didn't anyone read these texts before the dvd was put on sale.

Obviously Applejack is Granny Smith's mother, but then changelings kidnapped her and put one of them at her place, infiltrating the Apple Family business and gathering information.
Nobody suspected Applejack of not dying, because Applejack, the Element of Honesty, never lies. It actually made Apple's apples more famous, because everyone thought that Applejack's strict apple diet granted her eternal youth somehow. :iiaaa:
