Did you originally dismiss the show but became hooked at a later date? Were you a fan of older generations of the show before FiM? Write your answer and post it in this thread for your chance to win!

Your entry should be a few sentences explaining the circumstances of how you became a fan. Do please note our forum rules if you are a new member when submitting your answers.

Included inside is the Volume 1 DVD, a random pony toy (if you win you better tell me which toy is inside because I've resisted the temptation to break the seals and take a peek) and six trading/postcards of the main cast of the show. You can get a full breakdown of the collectors Boxset by reading our review at The Round Stable.

[Disclaimer] Volume 2 shown in this picture is not included in the prize. You can purchase it in stores now or order it from the madman website.

Well, to sum it up, there are three main reasons I eventually watched the show. It took all three working in perfect harmony in order to convince me

1) I played TF2 back during the initial pony uprising
2) My sister watched the show
3) One of my best friends admitted to editing fan-fiction

As most people, I was initially skeptical. I stayed away from the TV while my sister watched ponies. I'd occasionally hear the intro song echo throughout the house. In TF2, I largely ignored the ponies (I played on servers with sprays disabled anyway).
What finally got me to honestly give the show a go ? I found out that one of my best friends had edited MLP fan fiction. I'd known the guy for years, and that completely shocked me. I could understand enjoying the show, but the idea of a person like him getting involved with the fan base, well, that made me curious.
So, one dark night, I sat down at my computer, and decided to try watching Friendship is Magic.
The video I had obtained was broken.
Being somewhat of a computer-nerd, I decided to try and fix the files. It turned out after a lot of experimentation and re-encoding that it was a lost cause. I spent two hours to figure this out.
When I finally discovered this fact, I began to obtain another copy, I spent ages watching the small progress meter increase as I re-obtained a working copy.
Three hours have passed, all of which I was trying to get a show working that I had no idea if I'd ever like. I was, at this point, determined to watch it out of pure stubbornness.
Finally, I sit down and start watching the first episode. I was hooked within 10 minutes.

All I can say is, It was worth the effort

Right here? You sure? Well then!

Sheer curiosity! The brony phenomenon had been around for a while, and I knew a few bronies, but I just didn’t get the appeal. One day, I found myself with nothing to do. All my shows had been watched, my gaming computer had died recently and it was after a big day at work. Not to mention the pony related, recommendations in my YouTube sidebar. So I said to myself, fine…
I watched it and I became hooked… The characters were lovable, the stories were great and the values portrayed were charming! Soon I found myself walking through the pink isle of Kmart, then I found myself joining FIMFic and Equestria Daily, evening writing a fiction!

Now, I find myself in full swing, enjoying it. These days, I march right into the pink isle without ANY fear of judgement. Feels good man.

I've known about My Little Pony: FiM for quite awhile now, probably since not long after it was first released over in the states. for the longest time i was one of those "this is far too girly to be any good" types of people, swearing I'd never be interested in it. but then a network of gaming podcasts i follow picked up a new show, which was hosted by 3 people, 2 of which were fans of the show. they were talking about it abit from time to time and i got curious. the first time i actually sat down and watched the show i think would've been in February or March of this year, and by the end of "Elements of Harmony" i was hooked on the show, by the time i made it to the end of season 1, i was a fully converted fan. Now my family knows, my friends know, I've even started drawing various MLP things, like cutie marks or the logo of the NLR at work when there's nothing better to do. I still can't believe how much of a part of my life being a Brony has become at this point, but I am most definitely proud to call myself part of the herd.

At first I had no real idea about the new MLP cartoon. It was only after I started seeing a couple of threads on 4chan's /co/ (Cartoons and Comics) board that it piqued my interest, but I was still a little hesitant about giving it a shot. After all, it's a show for little girls, right? It was only after I stumbled across Not A Clever Pony's Princess Luna: As Imagined on youtube that drove me to give the show a try. I was curious by then, how could a show about colourful ponies and friendship inspire such an amazing fan-made soundtrack? I went back to the threads on /co/, taking in the suggestions on which episodes to start with. They had recommended Applebuck Season as a good starting point, so I started with that. I was entertained and immediately grew fond of Applejack, whom to this day is still one of my favorite ponies. I then went back to the beginning, watching the entire season from start to finish, and before I knew it I was hooked. I hinted at watching the show to my friends, to gauge their reactions. Half were negative, but they were otherwise indifferent. A few of my female friends were amused but otherwise accepting, and lastly one of my friends turned out to also be a brony.

Not long afterwards I started going onto FIM-related websites, with Equestria Daily becoming a daily browsing site. I was continually blown away by the fanmade content that bronies were pumping out, from the awesome music to the jaw-dropping art and stories. The fanbase's creative side had drawn me in, and I started making my own fanart on deviantart.com.

One year later, my love for the show and the people involved has not lessened one bit. My list of 'favorite ponies' has expanded to the point where almost every pony's my favorite. I've started appreciating natural things that I'd never thought about before, like how beautiful the night sky and the moon can be, or how gorgeous a sunrise is. MLP: FIM has certainly changed me as a person, and I couldn't be happier.

Australian/NZ only? 4 box sets? I really hope this might actually be my lucky day...

I first became aware of it because of avatars on Something Awful, but I never gave MLP a shot then. I got into the show because friends of friends at my high school all loved it. One lunchtime some of them decided to sit on the floor and watch an episode on one of their laptops. At the time I had no idea what drew people to the show, but the curiosity from that drove me to search an episode on Youtube and I watched Sisterhooves Social. I was still unconvinced, and by chance skipped ahead to that Sweetie Belle scooting scene which made me wonder what the context for that could possibly have been. So I just watched the episode normally, thinking the twist at the end was cheesy/typical of cartoons, and still not getting why people loved it so much. But that weekend I had the opportunity to stay up all night, had nothing to do, watched more pony episodes and here I am today. Of course, Sisterhooves Social is now one of my favourite episodes.

I show my pony sketches to some of the people who indirectly got me into the show and they all love them, it's great :allears:

I was in a really dark place, and alot of bad stuff was happening around me, but after a few months of dark, a close friend of mine dragged me to her house and sang me an acoustic cover of Pinkie Pie’s song Smile.
After that I became enthralled in the show, it became a light in a black world, and I’ve been hooked ever since.

First of all Hi!
I can admit I am new here and I came on the wind of a promise of free swag! (Woot the whole boxset, dad will be proud! I can see him Facehoofing already!)
Already loving the site and it has a nice big Bookmark on the front of my Chrome! Looking forward to the good times to be had!

A Friend of mine started complaining about Bronies and being the person I am I decided to go confirm my friends suspicions about Bronies. Needless to say with my love of Animated Media I quickly got acquainted with the TV Series and once Season 2 ended started filling my lust with Community content.

So far I have introduced 4 friends and I currently have a commission on the way!

So I've known about ponies for a long time. Not My Little Pony, but I've seen a lot of the actual characters in people's forum avatars and sigs. I liked the look of what I saw but never really bothered to look further into it. Then I got into a thread on a forum full of bronies (The thread. Though the forum has a pretty high Brony % too), and it was enough to pique my interest (Right at the start of my finals, about 3 weeks ago. So much for study) So, despite people telling me to watch the season 2 finale first, I went from the beginning, and was hooked from the first conversation between Twilight and Spike (Hooray for expansive vocabularies) The rest of the episode and series were, of course, excellent as well.

The first time I'd heard about the latest reboot of MLP was about a year ago. I was searching some of my past enthusiasms, and came across G4 Rarity. I wasn't happy, because Rarity had been my favorite G3 pony as a kid. Back then was my curiosity sparked. Fast forward to October, the Spring holidays, and I decided that I could give it a try. After watching the first few episodes, I found it quite enjoyable, and I managed to watch the entire first season just before the first episode of season 2 came out. From then on, I've been watching them as I can, and in January, I actually joined my first pony forum. Since then, I've been floating around, looking for more ways to be involved.

And that is how I became a Brony.

Oh no, I've found the post button.

Ahem.

How did I become a fan of this show?
Well back in 2010's last hot days,
I was browsing and letting my gut grow,
Where I happened upon strange avatars that did amaze.

Ponies, Oh! Bored and ironic these goons must be,
To adorn themselves in such colours of such glee!
I asked one where the punchline was lurking,
But he laughed "There's none!" until he was hurting!

Deterred and concerned, I slinked off to 4chan,
To secret myself from these trolling nerds!
But as the net would have it, they were in on the plan,
Posting rainbows and singing "JOIN THE HEEEERD!"

It wasn't the content that left me shellshocked,
T'was more of the sincerity that I though they kept locked!
Curiousity sought knowledge, "Overcome your lassitude!"
Watch it I must, Firefox, YOOOOOOTUUUUUBE!

I entered carefully, Knowing of the past,
Where dressing in style was a pink overload.
Fears of Embarrasment came up fast,
Lock up the room, engage PRIVACY MODE!

No amount of rum could of prepared me for this,
The cartoon-- It was just WONDROUS!

Well sheesh, how can I compete with that? :-/

But I do need to get my raffle ticket in, don't I?

My story's a fairly basic one, and the only reason I'm not an 'old timer' on these boards is because I'm lurky as hell. I came to the fandom a bit after Sonic Rainboom, following a spate of pony avatars cropping up on the Let's Play boards - in particular, IRQ's 'Ain't nothing gonna break my stride' avatar. The song stuck in my head for a while before I finally decided to check out what the hell was getting people on :ponydrugs: all of a sudden.

I found the TVIV thread before it was gassed, and picked my way through, starting with Dragonshy (as recommended) then plugging through the episodes before the thread got gassed. It might have ended there, but then someone made a snide comment at some guy with a pony avatar pointing them in this direction, and from there I was hooked. If a little shy on making my first post.

I first learnt about FiM from a post on a Transformers messageboard. I thought "A MLP thread here? This is going to be good!", expecting trolls and flames and so on. Instead I found praise and discussion on this cool new show about a revamped MLP. I decided to try it for myself and became a fan. It was pretty easy to accept the show as I'd seen plenty of animes with a mostly female cast and the quality of the voice acting and animation was obvious. So, yeah.

I first heard about My Little Pony in 2003 when Gen 3 came out
I made fun of them until 2010
In grade 4/5 i did some naughty things and only needed to go for a hour and half until the end of grade 6
My sister always borrowed My little pony tales dvds from Video ezy and i started watching them with her no matter how cheesy it was
I kinda enjoyed it and then i read about Friendship Is Magic on the internet before the show started
I watched some clips/fan videos before i watched episode 1 which i got for free off itunes USA
I watched it and enjoyed it

Now this is the story all about how
My life got flipped, turned upside down
And I'd like to take a minute just sit right there
I'll tell you how I became a fan of a show with ponies

In lil west medows born and raised
On the minecraft forums was where I spent most of my days
buildin' a dirt hut, chillaxin' all cool
And all shootin' some noobies on cod online
When a couple of guys, they were up to no good
Started postin' ponies in mah neighborhood
I got in one little flamewar and my inner critic got scarred
And said "You're loving these ponies, they're cuteness, i can't bare!"

I stood for a sec then fell to my chair
brain said "swag", ponies prevailing the air
If anything I could say that this show was rare
But I thought nah, forget it, yo bronys, im there!

Space Monkey perused the internet. The websites around him blinked and loaded out of the internbet. There were ponies on the internet. He hadn't seen there new form, but had known about the franchise for years now. His warnings to Socoety were not listenend to and now it was too late. Far too late for now, anyway.
Space Monkey was a human for nineteen years. When he was young he watched the computer and he said to dad "I want to be on the intnet daddy."
Dad said "No! You will BE CORRUPT BY PONIES"
There was a time when he believed him. Then as he got oldered he stopped. But now in the interredtubes of the internet he knew there were ponies.
"This is Socity" the radio crackered. "You must fight the ponies!"
So Space Monkey gotted his palsma keyboard and blew up the forums.
"HE GOING TO JOIN US" said the ponies
"I will shoot at him" said the unicronpony and she fired the horn magik. Space Monkey plasmaed at her and tried to blew her up. But then the ponyhorde fell and he were trapped and not able to destroy.
"No! I must destroy the ponies" he shouted
The radio said "No, Space Monkey. You are the ponies"
And then Space Monkey was a pony.

EDIT: Sorry drunkill. I saw kitty's post and couldn't resist. :v:

Funnies aside. My first encounter with G4 MLP was when I was searching for avatars amongst the great archives of google. I remember coming across 2 images of ponies around late 2010. One of Applejack and one of RD. I had absolutely no idea what they were besides originating from some cartoon (that's right, no idea it was mlp and for some bizzare reason I barely associated them with equines at first). Maybe a month or two after that I found MrYaridovich's My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic provides a realistic representation of life in Ponyville after browsing youtube vids (possibly Moonbase Alpha ones). Knowing the original video, I thought this was hilarious, not even stopping to question what it was from, just watching and enjoying it for what it was. From there, believe it or not, I ended up on a youtube vid of A Dog and Pony Show. Now I am pretty sure most people would not recommend this episode to convert someone as it is not one of the most talked about or prominent episodes. Well, I sat there and watched the whole thing, beginning to end, and I loved it. By this point I am pretty sure I knew it was My Little Pony (title screen and all) but I just did not care. Whataver I was watching, I loved it, and that is all that mattered. It goes without saying I hunted down the other 25 episodes and watched them start to finish, nailing the whole first season in a matter of days.

How did I become a Brony you ask?

Well...
One morning, get up, turn TV on and the volume was on like 50 (cause my Mothers deaf) and the Theme song was playing really loud.
I quickly mute it and run to shut the Lounge doors. I watch it for like 5 minutes and then my Sister walks in.
She asks: "What are you watching?" I quickly change the channel and reply "Megafactories"
I then followed it up a month later only to discover how cool it was.
And I have followed the Brony community ever since March 13th 2012.

It feels weird to hide being a Brony at home.

haven't posted on here in while :-I anyway. here's my entry:

I have loved My Little Pony since the 90's when I got my first pony who was a Gen2 magic motion pony called Ivy. I then collected quite a few from Gen3 while I was at highschool, because I thought they were cute and I like ponies OK! Next up Gen3.5 scared the crud out of my and I decided I wouldn't buy any more ponies. But suddenly. While perusing The Awesomer one night in 2011 I saw this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LqpyAlvyP3Y and I was like, what the heck that looks so cute! Check out the sweet ponies! Then I watched this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XsCHIKTRYRk then decided I should watch the actual show, cos it looked amazing. I've been hooked ever since and have now added a whole butt load of Gen4 ponies to my herd :chillin:

I feel an urgent need to express myself through... haiku.

Posts full of ponies
Watched, wanted it, needed it
Really like its mane
:ohboy:

To elaborate, I saw more and more pony avatars filling up the SA forums and not only did they look hilarious and/or adorable but a lot of other goons were starting to express frothing, irrational rage whenever they saw them, so I knew I simply had to find out what they were about. So I gave the show a chance, got hooked, and joined these forums when the pony threads on SA got shut down because some goons are the enemies of fun and just can't handle the pastel-coloured jandal.

I watched the knowyourmeme.com video on Bronies, wondered what made it so good that so many people wanted to watch it. So I watched the first three episodes, about a fortnight later I watched the rest of the series. Over the course of the next month I discovered fan material and that was it. :flattered:

For me, my journey into this fandom was a gradual one.

I remember when I first started seeing My Little Pony memes around the internet. While I found many of the amusing, I looked at them with a certain level of cynicism and thought they were being posted from an ironic stand point. They never really did much to pique my interest in the show. I was still looking at this generation of My Little Pony in the same way I looked at I looked at the previous generation. As a vacuous, prissy, little girl cartoon. I pre-judged the show.

Despite having no interest in watching My Little Pony at the time, I still keep checking the internet meme. Reading the comments on those memes from fans of the show, I found them constantly distancing "Friendship is Magic" from the previous generations of My Little Pony. I also learnt about the history of the people who are behind "Friendship is Magic" from these comments.

One day I saw the Skyrim-MLP PMV posted on a gaming forum. When I saw the animation, I thought it was amazing. This was the first time I had actually seen any clips from the show, and it prompted me to find more. That's I decided to look up the pilot episode(s) on YouTube. Then episode 3, then 4, then 5, until I was waiting for the next episode to be aired, I was hooked.

...and that's how Equestria was made. :-P

Thanks for all the entries, 22 in total and with that the contest is now over. I will be randomly selecting the four major prize winners tomorrow and perhaps some other people will be selected for a smaller runners up prize.

Again, I'll be contacting the prizewinners via forums PM hopefully by tomorrow night and I'll try and get the prizes shipped out early this week if people respond quickly.

PS: I'll accept some late entries in the next 12 hours or so if anybody who is eligible to enter posts before I get around to picking the winners by tomorrow, you better make an effort in the entry post though.

The contest closed last night and I have randomly selected a group of winners. Using the random number generate at http://www.random.org I had selected a winner for each prize and removing the winnter from the pool of entrants continued until six winner were chosen. That's right, six. Along with the four Australian DVD Collector's Sets Madman provided us with for this contest I have gone and purchased two My Little Pony toys and randomly selected two extra winners from the list.

Winners will be contacted via forum PM for details. If the selected winners do not respond within 5 days (sometime on the evening of Friday the 27th) I will randomly select another winner from the existing pool to replace them.
I will try to send out the prizes ASAP, depending how quickly winners respond with details.

Prize: Australian DVD Collector's Box
White_Pwny
weedgoku
blossomforth
Pingcode

Prize: My Little Pony Brushable Toy
Skystar75
zen like calm

Prize: Forum ponytag
While the contest didn't involve creative writing I decided I liked some of the effort put into the entries and five forum ponytags will be awarded to the winners below:

RightInfinity
kittysmitty
Pudding&Pie
Space Monkey
Timmux

If you entered and didn't win anything, sorry you missed out, perhaps there'll be another chance in the future to wins things. Thankyou for all participating.

Edit: If you have less then 3 approved posts you cannot use the forum PM system. Please post elsewhere on the forums so you have 3 approved posts. Please don't low effort/low content post to raise your postcount.
I suggest the Welcome thread or the location thread as a good place to start or one of our many subforums too.

I granted PM rights to all the winners, so it should be OK now.

I'll be sending out at least two of the packages tomorrow. Unfortunatly I bought some larger boxes much to big for just the DVDs and found the DVDs just fit inside the two smaller boxes I bought to send the toys. I'll go buy more boxes or exchange the larger ones tomorrow.

All four grand prize winners should have the DVDs by the end of the week depending on Auspost. As for the brushable toys both Skystar75 and Zen Like Calm need to give me their contact details before friday otherwise I'll be choosing new winners.

While Space Monkey, Timmux and kittysmitty still need to contact me regarding their ponytag choices.
