Anyone remember those crappy VHS tapes of public domain cartoons that used to be common in thrift stores? They often featured really terrible drawings of cartoon characters (many of which are still under trademark), and they're glorious.

The Three Stooges had a handful of their shorts fall into public domain due to copyright fuckups and consequently those got published a bunch on bargain-bin tapes and DVDs. As a kid I always wondered why all the Three Stooges videos I could find always had the same six shorts

Yeah, I always noticed that it was the exact same handful of Bugs Bunny cartoons that always showed up on those tapes.
Also, if a Mickey Mouse cartoon are on those tapes, it's always "The Mad Doctor" because it's the only one in public domain (yes, a handful of Disney cartoons are no longer under copyright)

Those "3 Stooges" cartoons were made by Cambria Studio.
What else did Cambria make, you may ask? THIS:
Yes, those are live-action lips superimposed over the drawings.
Just be glad they never resorted to that in the "Stooges" cartoons

Clutch Cargo was famous for that style, but it's sure strange. I wonder why they came up with it.

They only had $20 to animate each episode. Evidently, superimposing live-action lips was more cost-effective than animating themGloomy Rube wrote: ↑Sun Nov 05, 2017 5:49 pmClutch Cargo was famous for that style, but it's sure strange. I wonder why they came up with it.

I think we need to do a "Clutch Cargo" paintube someday.
Any cartoon that has a bad guy turning a cloud into cement, and presenting it seriously, deserves such streaming.
