Toys. Yeah, I know you want and/or already own some ponies. Maybe you just picked up a Happy Meal, or maybe you got one of everything during Toys R Us' buy-one-get-one promotion (ends today!) Maybe you've been collecting them for years. Fact is, this show was made to sell us toys. Yay toys!

You can get some of the MLP:FIM (aka Generation 4) ponies just about anywhere, but they'll probably be mixed in with the previous run of ponies. You can identify the previous run (G 3.5) easily because they are completely awful looking.

The G4's are still kind of wildly inaccurate, at least when it comes to the ponies with brushable hair. The molded ones (in the big giftset or the tiny 2" figures) are pretty nice, as long as you don't mind Celestia being pink and...not owning Fluttershy? I've heard tell the 2" figures are supposed to be sold seperately, but I've never seen them in anything other than a 4 pack, and even then, I've only found them at midwestern retail chain Meijer. As for the soft-haired ponies, their horrible out-of-packge hair styles are nothing a good condition and boil-perm can't fix. You can even cut their hair if you're feeling brave and/or are not an obsessive collector.

As for upcoming toys, check out the pics from the new york toy fair: http://toyfair11.asmzine.com/gallery/ha ... index.html
Most of these are pretty meh-worthy but Cheerilee's schoolhouse looks pretty cute.

And as for the long and sugary history of MLP, MLPLand is a pretty nifty database for pretty much every pony up through the end of G3.5.

So yeah. Ponies show and tell. What'd you get, where'd you get it, and how embarrassed where you?

I've got a number of gen 3, 2 and 1 ponies laying around the house. A few of them need some serious re-habbing. Once I find a suitable replacement for the tinsel, I might fix up this Minty I got from the store and post the results for you guys.

That would be pretty cool. The GF is bringing new-old ponies into the house at such an alarming rate that we really don't have enough flat surfaces to keep them on. Her most recent batch from a pony trading forum includes an oldschool Applejack, which is pretty neat.

I need those mini's with the plastic manes. Were those limited editions or could I possibly still find them at Toys R Us or someplace similar?

I'm gonna hold out till they make some nice better quality (have they already?) and purchase some. Might as well flush the rest of the my manliness right down the potty. Wish I had gotten the McDonald's toys though but I was too shy to ask.

I'm really wanting to pick up either a Twilight or a Rarity. I'm hoping some new figures will come along in the coming months that will more closely reflect the show.

On the topic of being embarrassed/cowardly/afraid to buy toys made for little girls:

You guys. No one gives a flip. 5 year olds rarely have the income and/or means to drive to TRU or WalMart and buy their own ponies. Typically their parents, step-parents, aunts/uncles, brothers/sisters, godparents, cousins or WHOEVER are the ones making the transaction. Unless you're going through the line at WalMart with a Valentine's Day Pinkie Pie, a roll of duct tape, a hunting knife, and a gallon of bleach, it's extremely unlikely anyone will even give you a second glance. No one knows who you're buying your ponies for, and no one cares. They're going to assume you're buying it FOR someone else unless you give them a reason to think otherwise. :pinkieshrug:

e:
KJ: I've only found the mini molded ponies at Meijer, and have no idea where else to find them. In fact, I bought mine just last night. At least two stores in my area carry them. They come in a 4-pack (Dash, Rarity, Pinkie and Twilight) for $9.99. I'm hoping they'll show up at WalMart or Target for cheaper, but if they don't start turning up, I could probably stock up and send some out to folks, if anyone was interested.

My store had some a light up Pinkie Pie, Rarity, and Rainbow Dash :3:

They were like 9 bucks each though so maybe just Rainbow Dash tomorrow when I pick up MvC3 and some other stuff.

They also had a big Applejack and Rarity that were actually pretty decent looking and came with an outfit for like like 15 bucks but I don't like Applejack so ~~whateves~~

Here's a good link for anyone considering the ponies with brushable hair as even they can look fine with a lot of effort.

Ooo, that's even better than my plan to buy Pokemon cards and condoms. If the checker asked me why, I was going to ask if they had ever played strip Pokemon.

(This post is made in jest. I do not actually plan to do these things)

McD walk in.

Walked in, asked if they had the white customer box thing, asked for all eight ponies. Not embarrassed at all.
I was toying with the idea of getting a couple sets from the store, but they really nerfed Celestia's appearance compared to the toyfair one. Her hoof guards weren't coloured, her necklace piece was gone, the tiara was askew, and her hair was changed.

All the toy versions of Fluttershy look high instead of demure, otherwise I'd get one. Oh well. Off to McD's to score a Rarity.

I was considering getting a set of the toys with the plastic hair, but I couldn't get over Celestia being pink and for some reason Spike was standing on his hands and feet. I might get around to hitting up a McDonald's eventually, I'm just really lazy.

It took me 6 whole McD trips to get two sets of these.

One of the trips resulted in that horrible abomination of a Cheerilee that I posted in the old thread.

I should get back into collecting. My parents made the mistake of sending me to a babysitter who wouldn't let me watch GI Joe, and they've regretted it ever since. But they still got me a pony that one Christmas. :ponydrugs:

Yeah that happened to me a few times, McD 2-4 ended up like that. I got really lucky, the 6th one I went to was completely empty except for one lady and she took a few of them out of the display and gave them to me for free.

It's pretty easy to get into. I rarely pay more than $5 per pony, almost never more than $15 for a rare pony in very good condition. You can also recoup some of that by buying lots, keeping the ones you want and cleaning and reselling the rest for a few bucks a piece.

http://www.kimsites.net/dreamvalley/ is a very complete guide to G1 ponies. My current projects are the Glitter Island/Sparkle ponies and the Glow N Show ponies.

Once I have some more free time and start buying again, I'll try to make some tutorials on rehabbing old toys and what to look for when buying.

Thrift stores also tend to be pretty good for finding some of the older ponies, if you know what you're looking for.

True, you find a lot of haggard ponies but there are occasional gems. And even the really rough ones can be cleaned and used for customs if you're so inclined.

I actually found a few that were in great condition at the thrift store. A gen 3 Fluttershy, Raindow Dash. The only one that was badly off was Minty, and that's mostly because of her hair.

I've only just started exploring the world of collecting MLP. It was all hand me downs from other neighbors and the girliest toys I got that way were Barbies =P I gotta say tho I'm in LOVE with this custom pony thing that's out there! Some of them are works of art!

As for these new Pony toys i think I'm going to dash over to Target today and see if there a re any toys worth taking home. I have a feeling I'll be restyling some hair today though! :pinkieshrug:

I was going to a party a month or so ago and I knew this girl who likes me would be there (and she would likely leave her boyfriand at home). So I had the idea to bring a the four McPonies I had for the purpose of making myself more adorable. This worked and she fell asleep on me, as I just felt all cool (but not breaking the brony code because that would be wrong). The next morning we went to the nearest mcdonalds and I bought two more, and she bought two to start her collection. Upon getting back to the party house, one of the guys there was "You bought ponies? We might have to revoke your man-card now." and I was all "Yes, however, I do have this girl hugging me right now so I think I might be on to something.".
A week later she noted to me that she had seven of the eight, I promptly jumped on my bike and made sure to finish the set before she could.
