"Rainbow Dash Always Dresses in Style": Pony Threads Thread

Post by DarkMatter (?) » Mon Aug 15, 2011 10:50 pm

Because shirts aren't toys, I felt that pony clothing is worthy of having its own thread. Here you can post links to various pony related clothing and accessories, be it shirts, sneakers, pants, pins, hats, jackets, socks (Minty? Is that you? :wat: ), jewlery, or anything you want.

I'll start things off by linking WeLoveFine.com, which sells official pony shirts for both men and women. Some are a little too much for my taste, but there are others I wouldn't mind wearing. There's also a contest currently going on for users to vote for their favorite fanmade designs to become real pony shirts. Go check it out!

Here's Equestria Daily's Mega Merch Mall, where you can find a lot of the fan made apparel shops. Included are some shirts that are a bit more subtle, limiting themselves to cutie marks or small show references without actually showing ponies.

I've gotten some shirts from Pony Only myself, one of Fluttershy and one of Derpy (and a Pinkie shirt for my brother). They're well made and were worth the price.

:gonkity: Oh no, not even more options for pony-related shirts. I'm already getting the Quills & Sofas and Pie Family Rock Farm shirts from this place for the more subtle option. Although, Kefka, I'd definitely wear that one, subtlety be damned. Those Pony Only shirts look really nice, but I don't think I could pull something like that off. Not on a college campus, anyway.

I like this one.

I've been planning to maybe get the Pie Family Rock Farm shirt or a cutie mark pin (if I can get a hold of one).

Great minds think alike, I got both of those a few weeks ago. Nice quality on the shirts, although the Quills and Sofas shirt logo is a little small and unbalanced looking (not sure how else to describe it) and the Pie Family logo is quite large. So far I haven't gotten any questions or comments on the shirts, which has been a little disappointing. I thought somebody in the crowd of 60k at Outside Lands would at least get the rock farm reference. People must assume they're one-off jokes.

Seriously cutie marks without context are like the perfect stealth brony wear. To the uninitiated they just look like funny little icons, but to anyone who knows it's instant friendship.

C'mon Hasbro, get on this.

Cutie Mark shirts are less stealthy than you think, if that's something you're worried about. While I highly doubt it would ever come up, and if it did it would be at most rolled eyeballs or a quick snark, but most MLP detractors are very familiar with the main 6 cutie marks and some of the more meme'ish catchphrases. I'm just saying let's not go around calling each-other Solid Snake or 007. (Pinkie Pie is probably the most stealthiest, Twilight the least)

That said, like many of you I've been tempted to express myself through consumerism and t-shirts (haven't got me yet, toy thread), and while pictures of brony meet-ups have scared me away from such ( :nngh: ), I have been seriously considering making a shirt of my own, after asking Topshot for permission. That way the only time I'd see a picture of a sweaty nerd wearing my shirt on the Internet is if I took it and put it up there myself.

But in seriousness, I would buy a pony shirt, but one with something like a symbol that would only be recognized by other people that like the show, for some reason

That is the best ironic shirt I have ever seen. :golfclop: wouldn't have the balls to wear it though.

I'm surprised Hot Topic hasn't picked up on the Brony thing and released a load of shirts for both genders yet. They've coined the "ironic nerdy" and "retro cartoon" market for teens and 20somethings for a while now. Hell, I think they even have a vintage MLP shirt or two for sale. Maybe Hasbro is jealously defending the copyrights for FiM or something.

EDIT I'm seriously tempted to get this one: http://www.welovefine.com/product.php?id_product=485 It's subtle enough that I wouldn't feel like an ubernerd for wearing it, and a pretty t-shirt design to begin with. It's also an obscure enough FiM reference that no one but a fan would recognize it. Everyone else would probably think it's a retro band shirt or something.

The guys over on Pony-GAF recently made some shirts with their mascott Pony, but among the submissions was this one (and not made because they didn't want to use anything copyrighted or trademarked). While I don't care much for the text on the back, I love the style for the front, and would love to see shirts like this for all the cast.

I wouldnt wear it, but if it were a wall cling sticker I would put it up next to my map of Middle Earth (The copy protection map from War in Middle Earth), and my cloth Metallica Master of Puppets poster in my game room.

It would so show people my house is the place to game. Except I live in CT where people are all asocial and shit and no gaming happens there. :fluttersmith:

And speaking of clings, so want T Sparks' cutie mark window cling. It can go on the opposite side from the Decepticon symbol. My boring ass silver car needs purple logos to spruce it up a bit. (Or Derpy Eyes in the back window. Derpy can watch me pass by most drivers outside of the real maniacs.)

But there is nothing wrong with it as a shirt. I just don't wear many tee shirts anyhow. And am like 37. A bit too old to wear cartoon pony shirts. (A bit too old to watch the show or watch cartoons in general but fuck it. It keeps me young. Got carded to get this vodka sweet tea thing at Chili's Sunday night. And I was 5 years older than the waitress. Clean living kids. Be sensible with your booze and shit, and have a youthful heart.)

I love cufflinks. Sadly, I only have a couple shirts with the French cuffs, (Hmm, Friday is payday, time to go clothes shopping!) and I think the Cutie Mark cufflinks would be the best idea ever. Subtle, cute, and usable even in formal situations.

Rarity's Diamond, for example, I would use those all the time. :iiaia:

Kef, if you promise not to ban me, I'll wear your shirt. :nnngh:

Although I too would prefer it as a poster, Topshot deserves dollars upon dollars for the design.

The thing about those ads is that it'll take images from products you've viewed and put them in those ads. There was a while where every cafepress ad I saw had those mugs I whipped up for the merch thread a little while ago. If you follow the link, they'll show up in your cafepress ads next to the Luna shirt.

Yeah, the problem with subtlety shirts is that it's hard for even fans to recognize it's MLP unless they get a good look at it. A shirt with a cutie mark or pony would be instantly recognizable but then again, it might get you strange looks from people.
However, it could possibly just be people just being afraid to admit they're also fans of the show. :pinkieshrug:

This is why I wish they'd make shirts with Big Mac on them. I might actually consider wearing one of those if done well.

Remember, if all else fails it's fairly easy to make your own! Photo printing shops who claim to do t-shirts will probably be fine with printing any old image, and the ones around me at least can read images off of seemingly any sort of media card in existence, and support some level of transparency (confirm this because otherwise it will look terrible!). I had http://bronibooru.mlponies.com/post/sho ... ht_sparkle this thing put on a black tee and it looks baller as hell, I wear it everywhere. On top of that the whole thing still came under the cost of ordering something (and that probably would've been quite a bit, considering I'm in England). Incidentally if anyone's going to the Eurogamer expo this year (Saturday), keep an eye out. :ohboy:

I just discovered another awesome shirt site to thin your wallets some more. They have pretty rad Canterlot U shirt for anyone gong to college (represent!) and they also have an even subtler Quills and Sofas shirt if you're extra paranoid. The Madame LeFlour shirt is pretty cool too.
