The six ponies' friendship is disrupted by the mischief caused by Discord and thus they are unable to use the Elements of Harmony to restore order until Twilight can find a way to rekindle their friendships and fight Discord's mischief.

It's the exciting conclusion to the wacky two part premiere! There'll be mischief! Shenanigans! And maybe even a little friendship too!

Spoiler ending: Thanks to the magic of friendship, Discord realizes his wrongdoings and vows to become a better person/pony/creature/whatever. The episode ends with Discord turning into a cuter, more pleasant to the eye version of himself, and the main six convincing him that baking cakes and playing dress-ups is fun. Oh and there's a moral in there somewhere about not being mean to others :flutterdear:

Discord is actually King Sol, Celestia's father. The elements of harmony restore him to his true form. After a tearful reunion and a warm welcome we never see him again.

Some speculated Celestia and Luna would aid them.
Others guessed the CMC would as well.

While I think I can be happy with whatever the writers come up with; be it Elements return to the six, CMC save the day (somehow) or Celestia teaming up with Luna and taking discord downtown. I am secretly hoping for something really off the wall tho. Not only would it be characteristic of the shows excellent plotlines but it would fit with the Discord theme as well. Fight chaos with ataxia.

Just gotta say, I think it's pretty funny and interestingly subtle how they're building up Sweetie Belle as having a large vocabulary--for a kid. Enough so that the others recognize it as one of her standout traits, but to us she just seems reasonably articulate.

It fits in with her being a budding lyricist. :ohboy:

Ooh, is it fan-theory time? Can i jump on this bandwagon?
Speculation incoming.
At the start of the first season, the elements of harmony were destroyed, but they got them back through their own virtues-Rainbowdash being loyalty, AJ being honesty, etc.
But Discord has enchanted/hypnotized them to give them the opposite of their virtues, so they can't regain the elements of harmony that way.
I think it's possible that in whatever harrowing situations they go through in ep. 2, while they don't have the virtues that they showed previously, they may display each other's virtues instead-for example, AJ could prove she's loyal even if she can't be honest(right now), or Rarity could reclaim the element of laughter. You get the idea.
This way, it'd show that they all share each others virtues/have taught each other about them over time.

I'll just reiterate my own theory from earlier, following the theme of inverting the pilot:

In the pilot, Twilight was sent away from Canterlot to find some friends. In this ep, she was called back -to- Canterlot and lost her friends.

In part 2 of the pilot, Twilight's friends displayed the Elements of Harmony to her. In part two tomorrow, she will have to display them back to her friends to be able to defeat Discord.
