Dig down in the fine print and the say the game's basically already done, they just want to fart out some extra DLC if the fans (not sure if Bubsy really has fans, or just the attention of people with a lot of money and a lot of irony) have cash.

To me, some of the tiers seem a bit desperate if DLC is the only thing they're thinking of. The later tiers are all relying on the Bit.Trip Runner series, but it's rare to see "unrelated" video games in a video games Kickstarter - Psychonauts 2 included one/a few copies of Psychonauts 1, not copies of Iron Brigade and Stacking as well. And if they were wanting to sell the game in the same $15-20 initial price bracket as Woolies Strike Back, the only reason for pricing the game + any DLC that gets created as part of this Kickstarter + OST + Woolies Strike Back + Bubsy Two-Fur at $25 would be that they expect to sell next to nothing at the initial price on other storefronts.

I suppose I feel like conventional wisdom just doesn't really apply to Bubsy. Accolade must surely know he's a meme at this point and they're thus rolling with it for however long people will keep buying into it. Kickstarter is a good way to test those limits by tossing out a fairly open-ended set of stretch goals.

And so far, people are taking the bait.

Imagine living in a world where like half the population is starving to death, and choosing to give your money to a bunch of yokels making bad games for the sake of memes. Like, that's just about the ultimate fuck-you-humanity move right there.

On a lighter note, I just looked up Annapurna Interactive because reasons and found out that they're going to be publishing a Windows port of Journey. I was just thinking about that game and what a shame it is that I'll never get to play it because it was a PSN exclusive. So that's pretty cool.

That doesn't sound bad, thank you for explaining in more detail! My question still sorta remains, though - What does Anthem have going for it where I'll wanna put down the dosh for it? I do really like good co-op experiences, and exploration sounds fun, but I still can't really picture how it'll hit my "shoot and loot with friends" button in a way that Warframe doesn't already. If Anthem has a neat story or cool maps and secrets to explore with friends while you fly around and shoot stuff, that'd be something, for instance. I'm just generally skittish about games with three dimensional movement because I am really prone to getting disoriented in anything remotely approaching flight-based, so I'm just really curious how this game does its thing. If it draws me in with strengths I enjoy, I'd be happy to give it a go at least. I'm just really unsure because this is new territory for Bioware too, and I don't know how their writing fares in this one (considering it can be extremely hit or miss). I'll have to keep having an eye on Anthem, I suppose.
So speaking as a Destiny player, and since Anthem is trying to get that audience, some notable differences are...

1) Destiny is 90% FPS, with some third person elements during Supers or using swords. Anthem is all third person, even when using normal guns.

2) Destiny is far more focused on gunplay than abilities, with only your grenade, melee, and Super as non gun attacks. Anthem is far more focused on abilities rather than gunplay.

3) Destiny has you choose a class (Titan, Hunter, or Warlock) and you have 3 subclasses for each. However, you can't change in the middle of the game. The only thing you could do is start over with a different class. Anthem allows you to switch out suits, which are basically classes, whenever you want.

4) There is no PvP in Anthem. You might get bored just doing PvE all the time, depending on how much content there is at launch. Destiny has both.

5) Anthem is more about verticality and flying. Destiny has jumping and jumping puzzles, but you don't literally fly around the map.

Also, Jim Sterling likes Destiny a lot more than Anthem in its current state. If that's anything to go by.

The Zelda reaction should be interesting, the art style is going to be as polarizing (to begin with) as WW's was back in the day, I have a feeling.

Kamiya / Platinum's new IP seems to be... robocops? Not much to go on for now.

There was a lot of anime 3rd party stuff otherwise.

You're not dumb, Facebook is just used by a shitton of people and I honestly think snooping around on their pages is never worth it. Could just be me, since I never use Facebook to begin with, but yeah. :v: Being trusting isn't a bad thing, just don't forget you can doublecheck stuff to be certain. Doug Bowser for example had some pictures of him floating around on Twitter pretty quickly after the announcement, and he was shown in Reggie's goodbye video that Nintendo of America posted soon after. On the internet in particular it's easy to lose the original source or confuse things since there is so much information and often a rush to post, so don't hesitate to doublecheck stuff. You don't need to be paranoid or distrusting, but looking at facts it's never bad. It deserves to be said again, you are not dumb.

What I'm getting from this is that Doug is a complete unknown to the Nintendo fandom, despite having had an important enough role and impressed the higher-ups enough to get promoted to such a big role. If he decides to stay out of the spotlight, that's going to be a weird shift from Reggie being such a public face of the company, although it fits with Nintendo's current trends of staying away from E3 and cutting back on live-action segments in the Directs.

He joined Nintendo in 2015 as VP of Sales, so I guess he hasn't really been in the limelight.

He's apparently been sort of visible for a while, though:

My gaming PC I built 10 years ago is finally past its prime, so I just ordered parts to build a new one. :scootatrue:

One of my monitors also croaked, so I had to get a new one as well, which made it a bit pricier. I'm super excited to build it and play some modern games. :yay:

The biggest push for getting a new rig was buying Witcher 3 in the Winter Steam sale and it crashing 2 minutes into the game every time. So I'll probably start with that one. :-P

But yeah I will still play a lot of Hearthstone.

I'm most excited for the newest Elder Scrolls. :scheming:

Yeah and it did what Artifact did too. It was dubbed "the Hearthstone killer" before its release and then nobody actually played it.

I kind of feel like that's for different reasons; the standalone Gwent release was just meant to be a small bonus thing, like if Square had separated Tetra Master out from Final Fantasy IX. Artifact, on the other hand, was Valve attempting to bring real world TCG concepts to a digital game that had no place being there (i.e. artificial scarcity and the variable pricing that goes along with it), and most people saw that and stayed the hell away from it.

Artifact also has the problems of Valve having lived under a rock for the past five years or so, not noticing how the landscape's changed in terms of games that take microtransactions, and also a near-total lack of support after the game's launch. From what I heard, it's gotten a few bugfixes and balance changes, but hardly anything in terms of expansions. It's not like Blizzard hasn't had any trouble (the whole business with Activision completely consuming Blizzard's heart put me off of Hearthstone despite liking the game, for example), but having an established product and an established team behind it helps a whole lot.

Hasbro is also currently making a huge push into the market with MTG Arena. I don't think it's enough to have Blizzard quaking in their boots just yet, but it certainly must be giving Valve heartburn.

MTG Arena is based on the most popular and successful collectible card game of all time, so it's not going anywhere. I played it for a bit in the beta and after I did the tutorial, I used the default decks they give everyone and immediately got chucked into the deep end, getting stomped by meta decks with extremely powerful cards every single game. I imagine they've improved matchmaking since then, but it was enough of a terrible new player experience that I don't want to go back.

It feels like a bit of a chicken and egg thing - Artifact isn't currently within the top 100 games on Steam (as of time of writing), so why give it major support when that effort would have far more impact if applied to DOTA 2 or TF2? (Or even L4D2 going by these playercounts)

Also, before checking just now, I hadn't realized that Artifact had an upfront cost, I thought it was F2P. That feels especially greedy in this case, and contrary to every lesson you would think Valve had learned since TF2 went F2P?
If I'm going to pay an upfront cost for a digital card game, there had better be a single player campaign that lets you unlock a lot of the included cards and lets you fight against a variety of opponents, even if it's fixed decks with just being able to swap some of the starter cards out for the ones you unlock.

Dota 2 even launched as F2P and still is free for everything but cosmetics and tournament gimmick stuff and such. I would have thought Valve learned from that the value of a multiplayer-only game having a large playerbase, especially when the competitor (WC3 DotA, or Hearthstone in Artifact's case) is already free or virtually free.

I'm glad I got a copy of Yokai Watch 3 at last. I'm currently stuck trying to save two schoolboys from a supermarket of all things but I'll get through it eventually.

It's kind of awkward that they changed the storyline of Japanese child moves to America and can't understand English to American child moves to a more southern part of the country and doesn't get the local dialect, but I guess that's how it goes. I always thought Yokai Watch was set in Japan, even in the English version and just had English names slapped on. Guess I was wrong! It's still a very Japanese setting. They apparently did that with the Doraemon dub because Americans think everyone should be American I guess. :-P

Nate, the protagonist even mentions that he's allowed to wear shoes in the house in that part of the country. In the other games his shoes teleport off when you send him home.

Tetra Master was terrible in FF IX, so I never bothered with the Play Online version.

If it'd been Triple Triad from FF VIII instead, I would've been all over that, though.
