Re: Political Cartoon Thread - Build the Rall!
A bit of a late news, but I've been going through it. Last November "Mallard Fillmore" mysteriously went into reruns, with no explanation given.
This went on for several months until early March, when the strip finally returned, but with a new artist, Loren Fishman.
It's not known if Tinsley is still writing the strip, although the Sunday strips have a byline that reads "By Bruce Tinsley with Loren Fishman", but it's not unusual for the original creator to get credit in a comic strip even if they have no involvement any longer.

We don't know for sure, but goon speculation revolves around the San Diego Union-Tribune dropping the strip after this:
Which is impressive for making people actually care about Mallard Fillmore, but also sad that it took this long. That strip ran in August, and then it went into reruns, and the official mallardfillmore.com site turned into a redirect to ComicsKingdom.
I suspect the new guy is writing the new strips because they lack the typical lazy drunken rambling of the old strips, and sometimes they even have identifiable jokes. it's very weird seeing that from the duck.

Nothing says “I’m not anti-Semitic” than immediately hiring lawyers who leap straight to “RoTHsChIlds cOnTrOL SoRoS”

The lawyer is the same one who tried to sue Devin Nunes' Cow on Twitter.
You'd think people would learn to stop hiring kooks who lose all their cases, but nope.

They're suing a respectable and well-funded nonprofit for exercising their first amendment rights. Who but a kook would take a case like that in the first place? Or more likely, a lawyer who knows he gets paid either way and basically hunts for suckers like an email scam—the dumber the case, the more gullible the client.

An entire chain of newspapers dropped "Mallard Fillmore". Tinsley and his syndicate claims it's because of the transphobic strips, although cartoonists in the comments (including left-wing artists) say it's simply a cost-cutting move from the chain owner, and the timing is merely a coincidence.
As far as why Tinsley was MIA for months, and why Loren Fishman came in (he and Tinsley split duties on the strip)

He said he took time off last year due to a long illness. During that time, the syndicate brought in another cartoonist, Loren Fishman, to draw “Mallard Fillmore,” and that they now split duties.

How many times can political cartoonists make The One Joke™ anyway?

Re: Political Cartoon Thread - Build the Rall!
There's a reason the normal political cartoons only publish once or twice a week, and strips like Doonesbury or Bloom County are mostly about their characters' lives and only do political commentary occasionally. I can't imagine what it's like to try to write a seven-day-a-week strip that's nothing but politics all the time.

Since Walter Mondale died recently, here's a comic strip from 1984. "Fenton" was an early strip by Wiley Miller, who you might know better for "Non Sequitur"
Jimmy Carter has better reputation now, but in the 1980s, not so much...

I didn't expect the "Dry Bones" guy to be labeled the worst, but he makes a strong case for why he deserves the title.

Re: Political Cartoon Thread - Build the Rall!
The most amazing part is he, a professional political cartoonist, was obviously making his comics in MS Paint, as evidenced by the text being on the same layer as the background when he forgot to fill in the spaces in the letters missed by the fill tool.
My immediate thought of worst political cartoonist was Branco, who did make an appearance. There's a quick asterisk that this is "non-Nazi edition", so Stonetoss isn't in the running.
