This was one of my favorite threads in the old Soapbox, so I thought I'd bring it back. Whether they're thought-provoking or idiotic, poignant or hypocritical, if you agree with them or not, post political cartoons here!
I'll start out with this one from Nick Anderson in the Houston Chronicle. It was made in the wake of the 2011 Tucson Shooting, but it continues to be relevant with each mass shooting the US is forced to endure.

I don't do them anymore, but I used to draw a lot of political cartoon parodies. This one in particular was well-received:

A 1921 political cartoon.
Seeing the Statue of Liberty in the background is kinda galling. Was the artist being willfully dense?

That was really funny. Disturbing, but funny.

At least with wanting to become a police officer, you get candidates who actually want to help the community in addition to those power-hungry people. But the type of person who dreams of becoming an ICE agent is only going to be a xenophobic asshole.

Hey look, I found another DEBT comic!
It's reassuring to know, in these dark times, that some things will never change.
Reality
(The actual number might be more like 36, but still)
lol

For a sec there I thought "wow that is a less detailed Garrison than usual" and realized, nah, it's just someone having basically a knockoff style of drawing Trump. Artists who draw him as this weirdly handsome, thin and agile guy amuse me to no end.

Close. "Tina Toons" is Tina Garrison, a relative of Ben Garrison who often works with him. I presume Tina is his wife, but the site doesn't specify how they're related.
You can always tell what the cartoonist is like when they draw their favorite politician as handsome or pretty

That is also an older Tina, where her style was suspiciously close to Ben's, leading a lot of goons to speculate on whether she's even real, but her style has shifted pretty significantly in the past few months:

God, the mental gymnastics people must go through to actually believe this shit is astounding.

If Branco wanted to make Trump look like a fascist dickhead who wants to get rid of the free press, he succeeded!
After "Non Sequitur" ran a hidden "fuck you Trump" message, the strip lost about 60 newspapers. One cartoonist estimates that Wiley Miller lost about $25,000 in annual income because of this stunt (some of the larger newspapers pay around $10,000 a year for a strip). While he still has about 600 newspapers running the strip, $25k is a pretty big income to lose.
Wiley said in a statement that he meant to white out the hidden message before he sent it to this syndicate, but personally speaking, I think he underestimated just how many papers he was going to lose over this.

That's pretty ridiculous to me, to be honest. 60 newspapers? What the heck? Couldn't they have left it at a warning, like, "don't do this again pal"? Is it normal for newspapers to be this volatile over their funny pages?

Oh lordy, yeah.
It depends on context, though. The cancellations was definitely over the use of "fuck"; Non Sequitur has criticized both Trump and his supporters many times (he even did one strip depicting a Trump supporter as a Klansman), but those didn't get his strip cancelled.
When "For Better or For Worse" did a storyline where one of the characters came out as gay, the strip lost about 100 newspapers (out of 2,000 or so it had). But that was in the 1990s, mind you.

The types of people that still have newspaper subscriptions are definitely also the types of people who would vote for Trump.

Against all odds, Ben Garrison was trending on my Tweeter feed. Over this cartoon:
Everything about this screams fetish

I mean...maybe? Though I think he's more making an Odyssey reference, since Odysseus lashed to the mast to listen to the sirens without dying is how they get encountered.

To be fair, Garrison's virile and sexy Trump is most definitely a fetish thing.

Not to mention, the way he drew Kamala Harris, AOC, and Tulsi Gabbard looks rather sexualized.

I love how they always parade around Venezuela as proof that "Socialism" (it's actually Democratic Socialism) doesn't work. But they don't mention how well things are going in Democratic Socialist countries like Germany, Denmark, Finland, etc.
