Dave Sim has a new comic coming out:

Image
Epic-Length All-In-One 24-Page Issue! Meet the Infernal Realms’ most inclusive super group! Lesbiana Hombre! Gay Chicano Female trapped inside the White Masculine body she never made! Redwood City! He may look like a tree, but he’s actually a mid-sized metropolitan California tourist destination (and excretes his own pine cones!) Borderline Bobbiey! Amazingly, he changes gender identity every time you refer to her by a different pronoun! Just watch him! You go, girl! Belvedere! Tired of being a stallion centaur Belvedere demands her right to give birth as a broodmare! Watch, as the strangest heroes of all tgo head-to-head with Cerebus!
This is gonna be the worst thing, huh? :-I

I liked Sims better when he wasn't making anything anymore and just rambled a lot of bullshit. Now he's going back to making his bullshit into art and yeah, thanks, I hate it!

The sad thing is, someone thinks this is clever.

That new Dave Sim comic blew up on Twitter. I love that most of the reactions upon seeing his name trending is "Ugh, what did Sim do THIS time?"

Sums it up :-I

If the comic is half as terrible as the cover it will be really terrible.

That has got to be the worst case of side-mouth I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot of Sonic the Hedgehog art.

According to someone who has a copy of the Diamond catalog, the solicitations for Sim's new book literally ran the next page :-/

I found an interesting gallery with a bunch of cartoons from the 80s condemning video games. Pacman seems to be the favourite.

PAC-MAN IS TEARING OUR FAMILY APART :twonk:

I swear, some of those I can imagine as Onion's Kelly cartoons.

I don't know what's better, Pied Piper Pacman or that woman marrying a video game system.

While were on transphobic cartoons...

Readers were unhappy when this comic strip ran in a New Zealand paper. They have since apologized

Stephanie is a recurring character in the comic, too, reading the article.

I don't even understand the joke they're trying to make.

Also "a transgender"

Holy crap, that Stephanie character appears to be nothing but blatant transphobic propaganda, based on "her" character arc (quotation marks aren't mine btw, the comic is p. aggressive in making the character's transition as unauthentic as possible). How the heck does this trashpile of a comic even run at all????

The types of people that still have newspaper subscriptions are definitely also the types of people who would vote for Trump.

There's also a lot of organized transphobia in the UK ("Alex" is a British strip)

I made the mistake of looking up her character profile, which misgenders her.

And it's so rare to see transgender male characters, so I guess it's only fitting that they made a terrible one.

I'm sure it's possible to make a narcissistic ladder-climber character who happens to be a transgender woman and make her funny, but not at the expense of her gender if that makes sense?

They did drop the strip though. :pinkietoot:

I guess comic book stuff kinda fits here. Remember Chelsea Cain, who did that "Ask Me About My Feminist Agenda" cover for "Mockingbird"? She's a TERF, apparently.

Her new comic is about a disease turning menstruating women into were-cats. Yeah :-I

Everything is terrible, but what's with the line "We are girls, then we're menopausal"? It implies that a 30-year-old mother who still gets periods is a child.

And yeah, I resent how people who are assigned female at birth are assumed to be that. Especially since lately there's been a push to be as feminine as possible if afab. There's nothing wrong with being feminine, but I hate the implication that it is for everyone. It can be really alienating sometimes.

Minor correction: Chelsea Cain wrote the series, but didn’t draw that cover. She got harassed out of Marvel Comics by gaters, and then turned out to be a TERF.

In conclusion, nobody should ever be put on a pedestal for anything, including randos like me.

Sina Grace wrote about his experience writing Iceman for Marvel. Wasn't exactly the most pleasant experience, I'm sorry to say
From the get-go, my first editor asserted that Iceman would be DOA if it were “too gay,” while also telling me to prepare for a cancellation anyway, given that most solo X-Men titles don’t last beyond a year.

It's pretty fucking chilling to read that a newspaper fires a cartoonist critical of Trump because of their business ties in the US:
Tyrell says that, although Brunswick News Inc. is a Canadian company, its business ties within the United States influenced their decision.

"Trade has been an issue since Trump took office," Tyrell said. "And the President himself is an unknown quantity who punishes those who appear to oppose him."
Trump's constant bashing of critical media makes media wanting to profit eager to criticize him less. He doesn't need to directly order newspapers to stop being mean to him for his disgusting attitude to have an effect.

He's not the only one. Rob Rogers, a Pittsburgh political cartoonist, got fired last year after the newspaper was sold to a right-wing owner who had the paper start canning all of his strips critical of Trump.

Apparently Doug TenNapel is going to appear at a panel at SDCC this year. Suffice to say, not everyone is happy about it, given the history of Doug being an asshole

Also, holy shit this story:
