"I'm not looking forward to getting stabbed. We've made some good progress. Let's look ahead a little bit and then head back to rest where it's safe."

"Not to worry. I can be discrete. And I'd loathe to leave a stone unturned, myself." She slips the hood of her Cloak of Elvenkind over her head and makes for the next chamber. "I'll poke around ahead. A dark cave has plenty of shadows to hide in, if you're not traipsing around in noisy, gleaming armor." She gives Ray a pointed look. "Wait for my report. I'll only be a moment."

(Stealth +3 with advantage.)

Southern Gothic silently glides down the steps, and the chamber that awaits is immense in size. There is a large flat area overlooking a dark pit about 15 feet down, stalactites hang from the ceiling, and the sound of dripping water echoes in this humid and warm room. Down in that pit you can see two- no, three distinct round objects, each about three feet tall, with dull colored spots on each of them distinguishing them from the surrounding rocks.

Dragon eggs. Three in total, silent and motionless, waiting in this cavern. :pcstare:

There are no exits, this is the deepest and final point of the hatchery. You have found what you came looking for, or so it seems, but there is still more of the caves you have not explored. Will Gothic scout it out further, heading back up to her friends and up the steep steps? Or will you leave, dragon eggs in tow?

Gothic weighs the risks against her natural curiosity. She doesn't want to risk leaving the eggs to be hatched by some tyrannical dragon queen and her cultists, but she doesn't want to leave without making sure there isn't still another threat they should be worried about. However, the fact that nobody seems to be guarding the eggs makes her suspect they may have already dealt with the cave's occupants. She decides to poke her head into the next rooms, just for a brief moment, to make sure she isn't missing anything.

Gothic scoops up the dragon eggs and brings them back to the group. "I think this is what they were here to protect," she says. "But we don't know what else they might have hidden away in these caves. I'd like to scout out the remaining chambers, just to make sure there's nothing left the princess should know about. But getting these eggs out of here should be a priority."

You try to scoop one to start with, but soon realize it's around 150 pounds.

Even Bottle might have some trouble getting these moved. :-I

Gothic shakes her head and flies back to the rest of the party. "Dragon eggs in the next room. Three of them. I don't think leaving them here is an option, but they're too heavy to move unless somebody's got a bright idea."

If you go down and observe the eggs, you can tell they contain a red, a green, and a black dragon. They should all hatch under similar conditions, but your knowledge of dragon biology is limited. To that note, your knowledge ends at how to fight a dragon, with the answer being you don't, you just run.

You imagine they would hatch if they stayed here, but who knows how long that could take. Your instinct tells you not to try and speed up the process for their safety: you don't want to crack any eggs before their time.

Bottle approaches the eggs, then scratches his head and shrugs. "If y'all want, I can carry one of 'em. 'f course, we could just leave 'em here. Celestia jus' wants them unharmed. We don't need to take 'em with us or anything."

"I don't think the Princess asked us to retrieve them, just asked that we make sure they don't come to harm. We don't know if we should disturb unhatched eggs and I don't want to accidentally harm them. We also are in no position to defend them. Maybe we should take what we can and leave the eggs behind?"

Radiant jots down an urgent note, ties it to her familiar raven's leg, and sends him off to Celestia giving her an update and requesting advice.

"Maybe he'll get back soon enough for us to decide what to do while we check out the other rooms?"

Beaky the Nameless Raven or Who's Name I've Forgotten (plz name him Nevermore) estimates a two to three hour response time, depending on winds and conditions. Birds are faster than ponies.

Beaky returns with news from Celestia.

Pegasi Guards have been dispatched to guard the eggs and secure the perimeter. Fine work. Return at whatever pace suits you, but prepare for a long journey northwards when you return.

You find Gal'Akir, your griffon friend, sitting outside at the campfire with the few other deserters of the dragon cult now eating their food by the fire. Gal'Akir seems to have given them some of his food and has spread the gospel of friendship. These ponies and griffons will stick together from now on.

The journey back in uneventful, and timing works out that you arrive at little past mid-day. You see a squadron of pegasi salute you as they fly past, and then a few hours later you are greeted enthusiastically by the town guard, a grey-furred white-maned guard named Stiff Breeze.

"Hail. As in greetings, weather should be nice tonight and tomorrow. Celestia told me, me of all ponies, that y'all are to stock up on travel gear and see if you can find work as caravan guards around town. She can explain more if you need her, but she seems mighty busy. Might be best to talk to Pewter. Good luck out there!"

"Thank ya, sir. Restocking on supplies is prob'ly a good idea, yeah. I'll go head over to him."

He heads over to Pewter to see what sort of stuff they're stocking.

Pewter seems neutral per usual, but happy to see you. Hard to tell with that mustache of his.

"Here, for you all. 60 Platinum Princesses." He means the coin, equivalent to 600 gold solars, 6000 silver lunars, etc. The payment for your mission.

You should all be level 4 now. You can make requests for items and buy them as per the 5e handbook (hoofbook), and he can also try to track down some magical items for you.

Otherwise shops are as follows:

Solar Temple
Potions of Healing - 40 GP Each, 10 in stock
Greater Healing Potions for 80 GP, 5 in stock
Spell scrolls available upon request

Blacksmith
Weapons +1 - Starting at 200 GP
Ammunition +1 - 80 GP for 20 arrows, bolts, etc.
Fey Horseshoes (Boots of Elvenkind, grants advantage on move silently checks) - 150 GP
Fey Cloak (Cloak of Elvenkind, hiding advantage) - 175 GP

General Store
Bags of Holding - 150 GP
Potion of Minotaur Strength (Sets Strength to 21) - 50 GP
And then all of this:

The presumably adorable shopkeep is also offering "an adventurin' pack" for 30 gold, consisting of 10 days field rations, 2 full wine bottles, 2 empty waterskins, your choice of a crowbar or grappling hook, cold weather gear to withstand up to freezing temperatures, a saddle blanket, 50 feet of hempen rope or 10 iron spikes, a hooded lantern, and 5 flasks of oil. They say it's worth 40 gold or so, and your intuition tells you she's not lying, lords and ladies.

"Caravan guards? Us of all people? Did she say why? I mean I don't know about you all but I for one am not the kind to traipse around following a bunch of carts for no good reason. What do you think, Pewter?"

Radiant grimaces slightly at the prospects of being forced out of her cushy office without much warning. She thinks back to the events of the past few days and roots through her books and notes and to discover two new spells of use. Basing off of her uncomfortably close experiences with dragon's breath recently, she puts together the Dragon's Breath spell, and keeping in mind the near scrapes she and her friends have gotten, decides to lean on her illusion talents and jots down the instructions for Silent Image. (Picks up Silent Image and Dragon's Breath. Realizes that School of Illusion provides free Minor Illusion as a cantrip, picks up Prestidigitation as a result. Radiant now has 26 hp total, and is at 18 Intelligence for a +4 INT bonus. She gains 1 additional 2nd level spell slot.)

She looks over the adventuring pack the shopkeep is selling, and notices that it is lacking in a few toiletries for a kit designed to last while roughing it outside.

"An adventuring pack? How lovely, considering our Princess just asked us to set out to guard some very important caravans! Perfect! But, ehm, it seems to be missing some rather important things for a young filly... Would you be willing to throw in some soap and perfume as part of the package deal? It would be so very helpful if you could also track down some items for me. I'm in the market for a Dagger of Warning, a Stone of Good Luck, a Broom of Flying, Unicorn Chain (Elven Chain), or a Cloak of Protection. I know they may be hard to find so I thought I would offer a list of options. I have 1k gold to spend and it is rather burning a hole in my pockets. I'd love to spend them here, especially if you could be a dear and toss in the soap and perfume? Failing finding those items, some Pearls of Power would do nicely as well. Maybe fit them on a necklace or earrings. I think they'd look lovely, don't you?"

[Persuasion of fucking 0]

Toast, check my GP total, if you could. I've only spent gold on a bag of holding so far, essentially, but I had a big 400 on my gp list on my sheet before I added the money from this little adventure.

"I have to say I have a few questions myself, Pewter. The princess wants us to... find work as caravan guards? Not any specific caravan, even, just whatever caravan we can find, unless mister Breeze relayed wildly misleading instructions. I'm not a pony to turn down a paying job or free travel, but you'll have to forgive me if I find this an exceedingly odd request from our Princess."

At some point she makes her way to the store to buy a second shortsword brass hoof +1 and one of the venturin' packs (with a crowbar, because she doesn't have much need to grapple) for 280 gold. She doesn't go out of her way to haggle for perfume--a lady always keeps some dry shampoo and a travel-sized bar of soap tucked away for unexpected grooming emergencies.
