Re: Play with Ponies: The Pony Toy Thread (REVENGANCE EDITION)
So, got my hands on the Pinkie and Rarity Cutie Mark Crew toys from McDonalds. Kinda disapointed because I think of the set of eight, they're the two most basic. Here's a comparison pic with Ver. 1 McDonalds AJ (the only one from that set I have with a comb) and Ver 2 McDonalds Cheerilee (you all know the story behind this one)
Essentially, Pinkie and Rarity here are just giant chibi figures with molded hair and brushable tails - I think all of them except Spike have the usual brushable tails - but the combs they come with this time around are much more 'comb' like and come molded in the shape of their CM's. Probably would be great to pair with the main brushable figures.
However, when I said Rarity and Pinkie are basic, it's because all the other ones seem to do more. AJ has a hat, RD and Fluttershy have wings, Twilight and Starlight have light-up horns, and Spike has some kind of eye-expression changing gimmick. I would have liked AJ simply to finally have her damn hat in some form lol. Not sure if I'll open my Pinkie and Rarity - good thing I have a box full of pony figures that I can't have on display right now.

Adelor Lyon and I went on our annual McDonald's pony toy hunt on Wednesday. We got all 8 toys each by the 3rd McDonald's.

Is there an option just to buy pony Pinkie Pie?

Re: Play with Ponies: The Pony Toy Thread (REVENGANCE EDITION)
So, near my new workplace is a fresh Walmart, ripe for picking (also a Target but I didn't have time to check there today, work is now an hour away from home and I had a therapist appointment later). And in the pile of brushable carded ponies, I finally found the brushie size Tempest Shadow!
What's great about her is that unlike 99% of every other brushie pony, she is NOT smiling. Instead, she has a slight frown (though the detail etching could have been a bit deeper). So obviously I had to put her next to the only other brushie size pony I have who isn't happy (also coincidentally the 'bad ponies' side of the display as Chrysalis V1, Chrysalis V2, blindbox NMM, and the chicken headed thing that I forgot the name of also ended up around there purely by coincidence)
And then on the way home from the therapist, I popped into a neat little drug store where I usually pick up a puzzle sometimes. They had a clearance section and I found mini Beanie Baby AJ and Pinkie all alone. For 50% off - basically $1.50 each at that discount - how could I say no? Fortunately, I was able to fit them in with my other small plushies just fine.

MLP Merch just reported on a new line of MLP-branded children's dumbphones, available in China.
I'm torn between being surprised that there's a market for these sorts of things and thinking those lanyards in the later pictures are stylish as fuck.

After all these years, I finally landed a Lemony Gem, completing the trio of unicorns from the original Fan Favorites pack with the glitter Cutie Marks. She was NOT cheap but worth it given at $15 she was the LEAST expensive one I've seen for ages! And as a side note, these three came from three different sets.
And I also got a Nightmare Moon, allowing me to complete another pairing as well!

Re: Play with Ponies: The Pony Toy Thread (REVENGANCE EDITION)
Applejack has the shortest skirt?!
I'm glad one character has darker skin, but I would have liked at least Twilight too. But that's just my preference.
Anyway, they all look pretty great. Applejack's is weird for not resembling any of her main EQG outfits, but the top does look like an outfit she's worn at the farm in the shorts and specials. That came with jeans, though. And besides the fact that her wearing a skirt is weird in the first place, the frills are extra weird.
Rarity is (blush). None of the figurines are particularly sexualized, except for Rarity.
Glad Rainbow at least has pants (shorts). She has the same sort of look at her EQG self (first version), but it works better here.
The three we saw before still look great.

My only question is why pony Rarity's horn is sticking straight up from the top of her skull.

So, in a recent purchase from a friend on another forum, I picked up the elusive Honeybuzz and Minty! Also Water Cuties Blossomforth and a transformer - got them in today and had a little fun comparing them to the nearest resemblance I could find in my collection.
Also, honey ATTRACTS BUMBLEBEES.
And apparently in the accessories Bumblesweet came with? A PINK HAIRCLIP! Just what Coco Pommel needed!

More new pony friends!
Doc Whooves I got from a yard sale a few weeks back, he's pretty spiffy.
Roseluck and Big Mac I got from a seller who I've bought from many times (the stuff above this post? Also from her). Was not expecting Big Mac to be THAT big but hey, he's awesome.
The Pinkie Brushie I rescued from a yard sale earlier today and she gets to be the background Pinkie from 'The Saddle Row Review' who survived the Pinkie Purge of 'Too Much Pinkie Pie'. She's technically different from my main, original 2010 Pinkie because she has the Explore Equestria mark on her foreleg.

They look perfectly fine to me. Not my thing since I was never huge into G1 but I don't see any glaring problems.

I added and removed a few things from my computer desk. Basically I removed all non-pony stuff for now since I really only care about MLP right now. I have a few more things I bought coming in the mail soon. Need to get that MLP merch before it's too late!

^ (Got mine)
(sets off happening alarm)
We got maybe G5 toys!
Toy images
Now if this does reflect G5, then it looks like they decided to keep everyone their G4 race after all.
I speculated more about these elsewhere before it was pointed out to me that Fluttershy and Pinkie's boxes say Potion Dress Up, meaning they probably took potions to transform into different things, and Rarity's says Magical Mane, which probably means there's a gimmick to her white hair like it turning purple in water.
The G5 movie isn't coming out until 2021, making these oddly early. Perhaps it isn't G5 but rather a tie in to some in-between special airing in 2020?

The ponies look weird facing the screen, but they look better at an angle. I'd have to get used to them, but they aren't bad designs, I think. Definitely closer to Unikitty than G4. Also keep in mind that the early G4 toys didn't look too much like the show versions.

Re: Play with Ponies: The Pony Toy Thread (REVENGANCE EDITION)
I doubt this is the G5 look, seeing as their cutie marks are exactly the same. Hasbro has used the ends of past generations to make some really experimental stuff. For example, the end of G3 was different enough to be called G3.5, and even within that Hasbro also put out the Newborn Cuties line (we all know that well enough) and the Ponyville line, which went so far as to have some of them standing upright and wearing clothes.
Perhaps we can think of this as a generation 4.5 of sorts.

A source confirmed with ED that these indeed aren't tied to G5.
Perhaps they're market testing these changes to get more data for a G5 line. Like if prominent hooves or the head size turn customers away.

Somehow I got the feeling that something wacky like this was going to be the effect of the "mysterious cache of magical potions to be broken out when the need arises" as described in the Pony Life pitch.

I've seen humanizations like this before and I still feel like they get the skin tones backwards. Seems to me like Celestia should have a heavy tan and Luna should be pale as a ghost instead.

These two certainly seem fanart inspired. Unlike all the other statues in the series, these aren't based on their EQG counterparts.
As for the skin tone, I usually see Luna with the dark skin in fanart. Maybe I'm misremember though.

I still really wish they would just sell the pony figures by themselves. They're legitimately the best 3D realizations of these ponies we have, but they're attached to human statues I have no interest in.

They're just "normal" Pony-Life ponies standing on their hind-legs.
