it's bad.
like "You watched a movie with a female super hero! Get $100, if you're a man, get $150" is an actual card from that game

I keep rereading that sentence and the stupidity hurts anew every time. Is that a typo, or do you actually get more out of that card if you're male?Gloomy Rube wrote: ↑Wed May 13, 2020 12:58 pmThere's a thread on twitter about the content of that board game.

Or wait, I get it. The idea is that female super hero movies often ultimately represent a continuation of the same social inequalities because it's one more instance of a bunch of rich white men cashing in on performative wokeness. A valuable insight from Hasbro, Incorporated.
What charity are they giving the proceeds to again? Hasbro didn't happen to promise a minimum donation, did they?

Re: PYF marketing silliness
In the twitter thread there are plenty of Chance and Community Chest cards that benefit women.
Women also get more money when the pass GO! and have more starting money.
Conceptually it's interesting to have unequal ruling on some elements that benefit sometimes the one or the other party, however the "fluff" that has been added is cringe-worthy or plain wrong.

Re: PYF marketing silliness
It's like there were two different teams designing it: one that wanted to make it empowering and one that wanted to make it satirical, and they started from opposite ends.

I'm not sure whether people who fall outside the gender binary feel upset or relieved that they can't play this stupid game.

Actually, those cards just hinge on man/not man, so we nonbinary peeps would get the same effects as women.

That's logic for ya! Reminds me of how games would often have bugs caused by a check being "this or not this" and they didn't account for some instances of "not this"

That's both computer bugs and, uh, rules bugs. I've seen many a physical card game have that kind of issue.

Let me guess, that was from 2005 or something, when content that was so ugly it's edgy was "in."

An early Toucan Sam commercial. Mainly posting to show that Mel Blanc was the character's original voice actor.

That song uses pig latin and also implies that hay is one of the flavors.

Pig Latin was Toucan Sam's gimmick in these early commercials for some reason

Getting an early Barney vibe from Mel's Toucan Sam voice there.

A rather freaky anti-drug PSA produced by Hanna-Barbera. Directed by Art Babbitt.

Re: PYF marketing silliness
A commercial made at Warner Bros. that doesn't feature any of the regular Looney Tunes cast, instead featuring Rory Raccoon, a now-forgotten cereal mascot. They still retained Mel Blanc for voice, though.
The animation's interesting because it looks like they combined Chuck Jones and Friz Freleng's styles, even though neither directed it, rather Phil Monroe, who was hired specifically to direct commercials at the studio.
Post really commissioned a lot of ads from Warner Bros. back in the day.
