I still get those treat paks or Variety packs once in awhile. Saves on washing dishes becuase you can eat them with milk right in the box.
NOMF NOMF NOMF
that's my imagined sound of eating them out of the box like that

Another Post commercial with Bugs Bunny for Alpha-Bits cereal.
VIDEO
Mel Blanc voices Bugs as usual, with Hal Smith voicing Elmer Fudd.
Fudd's original voice actor, Arthur Q. Bryan, had died by the time these commercials were being made. Smith's Elmer voice is, uh, very off
Elmer Fudd must live in a stand your ground state

These ads are, like, the anti-Trix. The rabbit always gets the cereal in the end.

Before creating "Doug", creator Jim Jinkins was designing commercials, some of which featured a kid who looks like Doug

More marketing silliness with Bugs Bunny, this time for Kool-Aid. Directed by Tex Avery.
The animation's pretty weird in this one. Anyone notice that glass cup disappears suddenly?

Pwe sweetened
I wonder if that was an early use of saccharine in foods.

They used Cyclamate, which is 30-50 times sweeter than sugar and it was banned in the USA in 1970 because high doses were linked to bladder tumors.

Nowadays it's bizarre to think that there was ever such a thing as long distance charges.

I always used this one (for what I think was the one time in my life that I did call collect) because "dial down the center" was such an easy way to remember it. Now I imagine kids these days not only don't have to worry about possibly ever needing to make a collect call, but they don't even have to think about those letters on the phone keypad being used as a mnemonic for phone numbers or as a text message entry method!

AT&T was split up due to an anti-trust lawsuit, then gradually just reacquired all the other companies again.

Splitting it up regionally never made much sense anyway. You still have a monopoly; it's just a different one depending on where you live, and one that now has fewer resources.
But it was a court ruling, I think, and there's not much that courts have authority to do to companies. Nationalizing them would have been the best option, but it would have required the cooperation of the other two branches to work out the hows and whos, and they weren't exactly on board with an idea like that in the very exact middle of the Reagan era.

In 2009 Yomiuri Shimbun, a major newspaper in Japan, teamed up with Studio Ghibli to produce a series of commercial spots.
This is one of them. It features characters created by Shigeru Sugiura, manga artist active from the 1930s to 1950s that was known for producing REALLY bizarre, surreal comics.
I love it when Studio Ghibli makes something that looks different from their house style.

It's only 15 seconds long, but I think this is my favorite thing to come out of Ghibli.

Monopoly is bad because it was designed to be bad. It was literally created as a demonstration tool as to why capitalism sucks, but then it got bought out and marketed as a fun game about money without actually changing any of the design that made it miserable to play on purpose.

There's a thread on twitter about the content of that board game.
it's bad.
like "You watched a movie with a female super hero! Get $100, if you're a man, get $150" is an actual card from that game
