Re: The Garbage Dump: 100+ pages of well-aged compost
You know that situation where you want to buy product X but instead you end up buying product Y that's similar and was right next to it but you blindly grabbed the wrong thing?
I wanted to buy pineapple juice because I enjoy it from time to time.
Instead I grabbed a tropic fruit mix that was right next to the pineapple juice with a similar packaging.
It contains pineapple but also crap I don't like like mango, maracuja (passion fruit), banana, and on top of that orange (I like orange but not in that combination).

The classic Livestream channel that constantly showed it on repeat is sadly gone, but I learned that all of Foodfight! is on YouTube and no one has cared to take it down in the two and a half years it's been uploaded.

I wasn't prepared for that.
And neither am I afterwards.

Re: The Garbage Dump: 100+ pages of well-aged compost
Lawrence Kasanoff and a Threshold Entertainment employee named Joshua Wexler created the concept in 1999.[8] A $25 million joint investment into the project was made by Threshold and the Korean investment company Natural Image. The producers expected that foreign pre-sales and loans against the sales would provide the remaining portion of the budget. The estimated remainder was $50 million.[6]
The film was created and produced by the digital effects shop at Threshold, located in Santa Monica, California in the Los Angeles metropolitan area. In late 2002/early 2003, Kasanoff reported that hard drives containing most unfinished assets from the film had been stolen in what he called an act of "industrial espionage" and "an incredibly complex crime", saying "They got into the cold room, a room within a room within a room." An investigation, which included the United States Secret Service, was unable to find the thief.[6][13] The film was supposed to be computer-animated, with an exaggerated use of "squash and stretch" to resemble the Looney Tunes shorts, but after production resumed in 2004, Kasanoff changed it to a style more centered in motion capture, with the result being that "he and animators were speaking two different languages".[14]
Lionsgate established a distribution deal and the financing company StoryArk represented investors who gave $20 million in funding to Threshold in 2005 due to the Lionsgate deal, the celebrity voice actors, and the product tie-ins.[14] A release date in 2005 was later announced, but missed. Another distribution deal was struck in 2007, but again, nothing came of it.[13] Lionsgate had a negative reaction to the delays. The investors had grown impatient due to the film production company defaulting on its secured promissory note and the release dates that were not met.[14] Finally, in 2011, the film was auctioned for $2.5 million.[13] StoryArk investors had ultimately invoked a clause in their contract that allowed the Fireman's Fund Insurance Company, which had insured Foodfight!, to complete and release the film as inexpensively and quickly as possible.[14] Animator Ken Bailey stated that "The film was already ruined. They were just trying to salvage what they could."[15]

There should be a book all about the making of this movie. Everything about the production is a disaster

Re: The Garbage Dump: 100+ pages of well-aged compost
Here's something neat. Sam Katzman was a film producer notorious for cutting corners everywhere in the film budget. So when he produced a live-action Superman film, he got around not having to spend too much money on Supes flying by simply having it animated traditionally, then superimposed over live-action.
Check out that clip above. You can easily tell when they switch to drawn animation (and tried to disguise it by having it be super quick, or by having Supes be really far away when flying)

I think it works well. It’s easy to see the switch to cartoon mode, but it also allows for better-looking stunts because you’re not limited by physical props/stunt people.

30 or so? Which makes it all the more hilarious that a script kiddie spent money to get it DDoS'd.DaikatunaRevengeance wrote: ↑Fri Aug 14, 2020 2:56 pmyou ever wonder just how many people are actually active on this board

Re: The Garbage Dump: 100+ pages of well-aged compost
So, not to bore you with the gory details, but a while back I kinda borked my external hard drive, and the program I'm using to try to restore it came back with some interesting information. The first screen listed only this:
This baffled me, because (1) why would it be a red flag that the drive is "only" 2TB, and (2) why is that "start" number so damn high? But then I pressed Continue, and only then did it bother to report the partitions it was able to recover, which included a 2TB NTFS drive stretching roughly from the beginning to where the other one "starts".
And that's when it hit me. I don't think this is a 2TB drive at all. I think it's a FIVE terabyte drive that reported some kind of error when they tested it at the factory, so they marked off the bad part and altered the firmware to make it think only the usable 2TB portion of the platter existed. I've heard of things like this happening with CPUs (one core will turn out bad, so they'll disable it and sell it as a three-core CPU), but never hard drives. And this son of a bitch homebrew recovery program was able to see right through it.
But now I'm curious if there's more usable space on there than they're letting on.
Code: Select all
The harddisk (2000 GB / 1863 GiB) seems too small! (< 5120 GB / 4769 GiB)
Check the harddisk size: HD jumper settings, BIOS detection...
The following partitions can't be recovered:
Partition Start End Size in sectors
HPFS - NTFS 243200 254 63 486389 31 43 3906817217
FAT16 >32M 442958 33 56 622579 0 37 2885609268
And that's when it hit me. I don't think this is a 2TB drive at all. Every jumbled pile of person has a thinking part that wonders what the part that isn't thinking isn't thinking of...
