Why not use an actual skull? Put a Raspberry Pi in where the brain goes, run the cables through the brainstem hole, maybe put a speaker in the jaw and some LEDs in the eye sockets.

Note: Obtaining a skull may be difficult, possibly illegal, and almost certainly immoral.

Actually, it's perfectly legal in most of the US - just crazy expensive:

And it's based on a Broadway musical that was apparently even more surreal. I'm getting a real Monty Python vibe from the descriptions on Wikipedia.

I love it when people see the OG Animaniacs episode with the 65th anniversary special, and they discover to their horror that Buddy was a real character (a 1930s Looney Tunes character created to replace Bosko), not something the show's writer made up.

The cartoons really were bland. You'd wish the Warner Brothers and Dot would appear :-I

My brother gave me a copy of Hellzapoppin’ some years ago (he’s cool like that) and yes, it’s a pro-watch if you can find it — it feels very ahead of its time comedically. The characters even MST3K themselves at one point.

Ah, when they made a cartoon version of "I Dream of Jeannie". :-I

Mainly sharing because that's Mark Hamill singing the theme song. He voiced the male lead, Corey.

Jeannie looks very attractive. Mark Hamill's singing voice is the opposite. As attractive as a teenager with puberty vocal change.

And yet somehow he went on to play Nathan Detroit in Guys and Dolls, but his singing on the Simpsons was also better than that terrible theme so maybe he improved once puberty ended.

Also fans of Defunctland might find this interesting too:

While I'm on "Jeannie" a friend of the lead male character was voiced by Bob Hastings, who later voiced Commissioner Gordon in the 1990s Batman cartoon with Hamill. Heh, small world.

Also neat video!

Hah, I didn’t know Bob Hastings was in both of those shows, but VA work can be kind of a small world (just look at how many shows in the 80s and 90s employed some combination of Rob Paulson, Tress MacNeille, Jim Cummings, etc.)

I’m fascinated by weird theme park stuff. Plus it’s perversely fascinating to me that Disney often treats their physical properties as badly as their employees, even though that’s just as wasteful and terrible. That channel also has some other interesting videos on famous abandoned theme parks, defunct companies, and famous abandoned buildings and locations. I think Defunctland is better but it’s still got good content and the guy has come a long way from when he started in terms of quality.

My company has sent us small fir trees (about 30cm tall) and some sweets for Christmas.
We are encouraged to decorate them and send pictures.
I've decorated mine in the shape of a rocket.

I 3d-modeled the planter and the rest and 3d-printed the parts.

Is the soil directly in contact with the printed base, or is it inside a small pot? Given the health hazards I've heard about various 3D printing materials, I wonder if some of those would be unsafe for plants if in direct contact.

Rewatching "Hey Arnold". Two things:

1. Helga really is the best character in the show. She's the true main character as far as I'm concerned.

2. Helga's dad truly is the worst. Yeesh

It's printed with PLA and it has titanium-oxide as pigment. So it's fairly safe.
The tree is also in a small black plastic pot that was sold and transported with.
I've inserted a small spacer so whenever I put too much water in the roots aren't submerged all the time.

I print almost exclusively with PETG and rarely PLA and ABS. Only ABS I don't trust and wouldn't use it for food contact.

I realize that, at this point, a lot has been said about "Rapsittie Street Kids", but Polygon went a step further and published an article detailing the special's production, interviewing the people involved in the making.

It's an interesting read, suffice to say. :-I

Couple of takeaways:
- The animator software used was never meant for television production, and proved to be EXTREMELY limited for the animators. The director, having worked on other animation productions (the article mentions a 1980s cartoon "Denver the Last Dinosaur"), was frustrated by the slow and expensive process and was obsessed with finding a way to produce animation cheap with only a small team. He, uh, got his wish.

- Great-Grandma's garbled voice really was in the script and recorded as is. According to Debra Wilson, who did the voice, the direction she got was "Great-grandma is disheveled; she can’t get her words together."

She's basically Mushmouth from The Cosby Kids. I don't know why people couldn't believe they would do that on purpose. It's probably the one genuinely entertaining thing about the special.

The real money quote here was the movie's co-writer describing his experience watching the finished product: "I saw my parents die, and I'm not sure this wasn't as emotionally devastating as that." Holy crap.
