Kookaburras are also known for stealing meat from people during barbecue, even snatching them off the grill.

These birds don't give a fuck.

Also, I just learned that the dolphin speak you hear in movies also came from Kookaburras. They just sped the audio up to make it squeakier.
Yeah I've been to many aquarium shows and dolphin sounds are super high pitched and squeaky. Not at all like the noise Flipper makes.

Also bald eagles sound like seagulls.

I've printed several of those. There are better and more telling calibration tests that show the problems more clearly but as a all-in-one test it's one of the more pleasant looking.
One can only print so many.

They are somewhat front- and top-heavy and tumble very easily over. Technically they can float.

Al Gore was in at least two episodes I can think of off the top of my head. The one about global warming, and one of the What If ones that ends with the universe destroyed and Fry, Gore and a few others sitting down to spend the rest of eternity in the void playing D&D with Gary Gygax.

He was also in a few of the movies.

Yesterday, I learned that the song "Tin Man" by the group America was called "Tin Man" and performed by the group America. Which is to say, I'd heard the song a ton before, but never actually learned the name of it or who performed it until yesterday.

Over a decade ago I remembered this web animation that went viral

This especially stood out because, for 2007, the animation was VERY good for something released on the web.

Anyway this made me wonder whatever became of the guys who made it. Well, TIL that they went on to become writers for "Steven Universe" then created their own show, "Craig of the Creek".

Today I learned that I really need to start mapping out the wiring in this house to avoid any nasty surprises in the future.

We've been living here for over a year now, and some of the choices the previous owners made in terms of wiring are strange at best. There's a bunch of light switches that do nothing and some parts where it's clear a change of ideas happened. For example, there's a light outside that's currently not hooked up as the wiring was recycled for a bathroom fan instead. The main wiring is still intact and there's actually a live connection going outside next to a switched wire that's just not hooked up. The other outside lights are all hooked to various motion/dusk sensors leaving a dead switch behind inside or outside. So far, I know which ones work and which ones don't, but I have no idea what they even might be connected to. I also need to go around and fix a lot of connections as the wires are literally twisted together in a lot of placs and covered with electric tape.

But the big thing today is that my workroom is a former bedroom and had some hideous bedside lights installed. I bought a LED bar to install as a desk light and decided to use one of those lightpoints as the power source. As there is a double light switch installed next to the door I assumed this switched those lights on and off (Despite them also having a pullcord). Never really verified this though, as the lights were ugly and in a useless location anyway.

So I went to remove one from the wall, and thanks to the neon screwdriver I was using (Yes, I know they're unsafe as heck but they have their use in specific situations) I noticed the live wire was still live. Switch did nothing for it, so I assumed the switch was just hooked up wrong, switching neutral instead of live. Turned power off at the breaker, installed and wired up the LED light, turned the power on, noticed the wallswitch wasn't doing anything. Ended up opening the switch and discovering there's literally just one side hooked up, with no other wiring even going in there...

Emptyquote from the guy who got electrocuted in a swimming pool two years ago due to an improperly grounded pool pump.

Seriously, whenever you move into a new house/apartment/whatever, hire an electrician to come in and inspect everything to avoid situations like this.

TIL about the "most mysterious song on the internet", a song that was taped off a German radio station in 1984 and has failed to be identified since a clip was first posted online in 2007. Last year somebody managed to get a copy of the whole song, but also does not know the title or the band.

Well, I actually am trained as an electrician myself, so that helps.

EDIT: The work of actual electricians I've seen here in Bulgaria is also dubious enough that it's safer doing it myself according to the standards I learned. For some additional context: The previous owner was a professional pool installer too, so you'd think he'd know at least a little about wiring stuff. Either he did all of this himself, or hired someone who did this, and both are actually possible and in their own way terrifying.
