TIL that Arby's filed for bankruptcy...in 1970, 6 years after they opened its doors. TL;DR: they expanded the restaurant to hundreds of locations, but built using money they didn't have. Whoops :-I

They eventually recovered from it.

Japan is way worse about brand personification than the US, IMO. The US has much less of a need to use sex appeal in its mascots.

Today I learened that until the mid 19th century Japan had a very particular way to divide the time of the day.

They divided the time between dusk and dawn into 6 equal segments (6 for day, 6 for night).
The major problem clock manufacturers had was that the length of the segments change from day to day as the seasons change.

Like, I know that it's possible for complaints about cultural appropriation to go too far and basically become a form of gatekeeping. But the complaints about the whole "spirit animal" thing seem pretty legit, especially in a context like this where they're clearly treating it as more of a meme than anything else. Ugh, it's enough to make me nostalgic for the days of Myers-Briggs tests.
