TIL Thread: Today I learned...
Today I learned that the Spanish/Hispanic version of the Tooth Fairy is a mouse named Ratoncito Pérez. I love that it's a whimsical character with a totally normal last name.

Today I learned visual scripting in Unity with Bolt.
It's neat but there is a whole different view I'm not familiar with. I see my problems as code and not as node graphs.

Today I learned that using the recommended temperature of a 3D printer filament might result in a well-printed part.

https://arxiv.org/ allows you to see the source files for papers, which means you can find comments that were not always intended for public consumption. But most of the time they're boring things like "do we need parentheses here?"
Very math.

Your link is about the last VCR/VHS player produced. The last new VHS cassettes were produced a little earlier than that (by one or two years? It's hard to find a good source).Auxiliatrix wrote: ↑Sun Jul 15, 2018 5:24 pmToday I learned that (non-amateur) VHS tapes only stopped being made about two years ago. https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2016/07 ... tion-ends/

Lukanka is a pretty good Bulgarian type of salami worthy of trying. It's often used for pizzas here.

I will try all the cured meats
Also, I like finding out about foods from different countries and places. One of the only good things about having been a picky eater when I was a child has been that, when I got over that problem and learned to like new foods, my adulthood has been like this constant stream of new things to try. It’s fun!

Re: TIL Thread: Today I learned...
I’m aware of its, uh, odiferous reputation, but I’d try it just to say I had.
I’ve tried both a miso udon soup and a curry udon, and I liked those a lot. Otherwise my exposure to Japanese cuisine is limited to sushi, Pocky, and these little fudge-filled cookies shaped like panda bears. Oh, and someone shared a green tea Kit Kat with me once. So I’d like to try more Japanese dishes that represent actual food.

Re: TIL Thread: Today I learned...
There are a wide variety of Japanese foods, so it's hard to single any particular out. I'd try out ramen (actual, home-made ramen, not the instant kind you can find in grocery stores), katsudon, and Osaka staples takoyaki and okonomiyaki.
Sushi's great, though. I try to eat them whenever I get the opportunity. Raw fish for life!

I saw some reports on TV about the customs office at airports. They grabbed tons of weird stuff out of circulation, just like that snake in the bottle.
There have been weirder stuff in drinks, like a severed toe that is served in Canada. Below a video about it (hidden because the thumbnail shows the toe)
