Now shipping OCs, I was doing that when it was illegal.

I never felt strongly about shipping, either. Anything I could come up with was in terms of what I felt would make for good episodes of the show.

I don't like shipping because I feel weird/wrong to project my desires onto people, even if they're fictional.

I rarely ship because A) I'm suuper ace, and B) you need a hell of a lot of actual subtext to ram into my head that two characters might be interested in each other. Therefore I don't really pair up characters just because I think they might be cute together or complement each other personality-wise. You need something like Trixie and Starlight's canon relationship for me to take notice.

there was also a lot of desire to not be seen as 'those bad fans' who were degenerates and whatnot. there was a lot of pearl clutching about men liking girls cartoons in the wider culture and a lot of people here were defensive about it. we were the respectability politics forum, if we just were gosh darn nice and polite enough they'd have to accept us.
