Here is Emperor Sheev Palpatine talking about Darth Plagueis. Btw Plagueis doesn't follow the "in" rule so we need a new rule.

you know
lucas had the right idea with regards to designs in the prequels
everything is opulent and excessive
like look at coruscant or that ship padme is on

and this is a nice contrast when you start introducing the clones who all wore simple uniform full body armor and have simple uniform vehicles and spacecraft

Again Lucas is fantastic at some things and just bafflingly stupid in others. His scenery and lighting tends to be spot-on. If there is one thing the man was good at, it was that. Hell, a lot of his character and alien designs are amazing too.
He is the most confusing man to me. I don't understand how someone is incredibly talented in one area and terrible in others. Like not just "normal" terrible, I mean like the kind of guy that writes dialogue like the Padme/Anakin scenes.

The prequels needed Harrison Ford to stroll in and remind him that you can type this shit, George, but you sure as hell can’t say it.
Oh my christ I just saw this. He literally just disintegrates like "poof" and then you fight his fucking ghost. This is real. Someone made this.
Yes, and I played it.

I honestly really liked the first Force Unleashed. I never touched the DLC, though.

Force Unleashed was great, dumb, fun and even though Galen was stupidly overpowered (that star destroyer shit was dumb as hell) he was still an interesting character concept in that he was someone Vader used as a way to replace his family.
He's no Kyle Katarn or Kreia though. God, I miss those two. Though I think Rogue One means Katarn really can't exist and Rebels means Starkiller can't exist.
At least give me Kreia, Disney. She doesn't contradict literally any of the new canon.

she contradicts it by being actually clever and introducing moral ambiguity

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if some of Luke's speeches about the Jedi being bullshit in TLJ were at least a little inspired by Kreia's force neutrality, tbh.

I was thinking about this and I think one of the big reasons TLJ's version of Luke alienated people is that he had to fit in the kind of themes KOTOR 2 had while only having limited movie screentime to do so while KOTOR 2 is a 20+ hour videogame which gave Kreia a lot of time to explain the exact follies of the Jedi while fleshing out her character and her past.
TLJ had to rush a bunch of shit regarding Luke, Rey, and Kylo because it had like 3 plot threads it was trying to follow and it was still a long ass movie.

A lot of hard sci-fi writers are like this. They can come up with the most amazing technical concepts, but their characters are boring one-dimensional cardboard people and their dialogue doesn’t sound like anything most people would say.

George goes above and beyond even just "normal" terrible though. I watched the making of TPM and realized this when he called the Gungas (the original name he made) the Goongas and then now they're Gungans.

Also Star Wars is not Hard Sci Fi in the slightest. The main thrust of the setting is Space Magic Wielding Ninja Monks with Laser Swords, and all of the explicitly non-magical tech in the setting is abstract and unexplained without even any bullshit technobabble outside of supplementary materials.

just gonna hijack this thread for some very important Star Citizen Wars news
This is a really good video overall, but I timestamped a part I had never realized before but now know to be one of the absolute stupidest bits of plotting I've ever seen. Like, holy shit.

I know Star Wars isn’t hard science fiction! The actual comparison is that George Lucas has the same exact inability to write interesting people that those authors do.

Also TROS is shaping up to be the worst reviewed Star Wars movie ever. I’m legitimately depressed and even worse, my brother is dragging me to see it Thursday night. I don’t want to even bother seeing it.
Also all the worst people in the world get to gloat and celebrate another win.

Eh don't sweat it so much. I'm dragging my friends to see it tomorrow and even asked for a day off for Christmas vacation early to see it. If it sucks, it sucks. Not like I've never seen a bad star wars movie in theaters before.
As for the gloating assholes you refer to, well eh they were probably going to hate the movie no matter what. But now the whole "Disney PAID reviewers to praise The Last Jedi" argument holds basically no water anymore.

You're fine. It *is* frustrating that people who obvioisly hated the ST from the beginning because it has a woman and poc protagonists will likely feel validated by these reviews, but it's also important to remember that, ultimately, those kinds of people are a very loud minority.

I'm curious enough to see how they finish the trilogy off, for better and worse, and at the very least it'll be an interesting movie to see and discuss afterwards I'm sure
also shitty nerds suck but remember that a movie being good has never stopped them from making up shit about it to drag it through the mud, so honestly the actual quality of the film has no bearing on what certain types of toxic idiots say

Watch it and try to have fun with it and make your own opinion, that's a perfectly fine and valid thing to do and shit-tastic people on the internet are not worth modelling your life around

also also if it turns out to be like, fascinatingly bad, it can join the prequels as some of the most discussed nerd movies ever and in a weird way that's also worth appreciating

Yeah like, I didn't like TLJ because I think it made a bunch of very questionable storytelling decisions and gambles that didn't pay off, not because RAY MARY SUE FEMALE PROTAG ADMIRAL LADY HAD PINK HAIR or whatever the chuds were screeching about

I still have not actually bothered to sit down and watch The Last Jedi yet.
I've come to realize that I just don't care about these new Star Wars movies. I saw the Force Awakens and it just... didn't feel like Star Wars to me. It was an okay movie, but I felt like it didn't do anything new or interesting or different enough with the setting to justify making a movie about, let alone a whole trilogy.

That's funny, because my biggest problem with TFA was that it was too much like a Star Wars movie. The lack of anything new was definitely the problem, though. Characters are nice, at least.

I watched it today, and I'll have to rewatch it to fully form my thoughts on it. For now, I mostly enjoyed it, but I can definitely see how it could piss of various people in various ways.

I was never able to get into Star Wars and I still don't know why. The big showdown between Kylo Ren and Luke was amazing, though. That's the one moment in the whole series that finally got a reaction from me. And I only had to sit through five movies I didn't care for and two that were genuinely atrocious to get to it!
