I'm disgusted you can't tell Littlepip (the one who said fuck me with celestia's forehooves) apart from Blackjack (who is a cannibal) smdh

That's Blackjack from Fallout: Equestria: Project Horizons.

By the cyborg leggies that's after she died once.
I was going to call you two out but then I remembered I read most of FoE and a lot of Horizons. I'm trying not to think less of myself for that, but I'm not sure I have a choice.

i always came down on the 'yeah its bad, but the boys toys equivalents like transformers were just as terrible' when it came to early mlp. the 80s and early 90s were just an era of low production value and plenty of enjoyable, terrible cheese

my john de lancie story is that after the first big con in new jersey i was hanging out in the morning and he came out and was waiting for a ride for the airport.

the guy who was with me was geeking out but i didn't really give a shit. he looked very bored and annoyed and then got the con staff to drive him to the airport for free.

that's my john de lancie story

kind of regret getting his signature with lauren faust instead of larson or mccarthy

Didn't someone on the old forums read through (at least some of) Fallout: Equestria in the bad fanfic thread for us? I vaguely remember that happening, and it's the most I've directly engaged with the series (besides its inescapable knock-on effects on the rest of the fandom's output).

My John De Lancie story is I talked to producer Mike Brockhoff at Bronycon 2012 about potentially doing the music for the Bronycon documentary, then I talked to John De Lancie at an event in Chicago and he seemed genuinely shocked that I'd talked to Mike about doing the music for it. Then it turns out John De Lancie went to Juilliard with some friend of his who'd never scored a film in his life and picked him to do the music instead, which resulted in such on-the-nose scoring techniques as playing an angelic choir over a brony flying in a plane.

I met John de Lancie once at a Trek convention. He seemed nice enough.

Thing about Trek conventions is that the actors are used to them. Some still enjoy them, some see it as a part of the job. De Lancie seemed more in the "just a job" camp. So these stories about him at pony conventions don't seem too surprising. It's a job to him, and unlike pretty much everyone else involved in the show, he's used to it. Tara Strong is probably the only other person on the cast/crew with extensive con experience prior to pony.

Side note: Trek actors I've met to seemed to thoroughly enjoy cons

I'll probably watch this later

My experience was mostly with the PMV/Anthology crowd, a lot of whom came from the AMV community

My personal experiences have been mostly positive, prolly cuz of the crowd I hung out with.
The 'fame' I had was p neat and I learned a shitton wrt videoediting, animation etc.

But there were also moments where I just wanted to die then and there, like

In 2012 when I went to Vancouver there was a screening of an episode organized by bronyfamous Bronymike.
A VA was invited, one of the CMCs, amd ahe was in the crowd.
Then when Celestia came on screen some dude began yelling "Princess Molestia!!" and I wished for hell to open its maw and take me.

the thing got huge in a way that had never really happened before I think

There was a tooon of energy going all over the place

But nobody was really at the helm, no one was really equipped to handle or moderate the thing at large
Add in a large group of mostly male, online, socially awkward teenagers ans you get something potent

Maybe my crowd felt mostly better cuz they were older and had already seen a lot of shit in anime

I remember the OG Dr. Dinosaur drawing a lot of parallels with how anime got big and the culture surrounding it

i'd say my expereince was pretty negative. So much so that i came to resent the show and everyone and everything relating to it.

And that went on for a while. It faded away eventually, so these days i somewhat still like the characters and maybe even feel some nostalgia for it.

i met some cool people, at least

i have this theory that foe's popularity is purely because it kept regularly updating and was always on the frontpage/whatever of eqd

it's not because of fallout's popularity, the popularity maybe played a part initially, but also video game crossovers were dime a dozen, you had like several mass effect crossovers because mass effect was also super popular back then

and most of these video game crossovers barely make it passed page 1 as the writer realizes that "what if i smash xcom and mlp together" doesn't really result in anything entertaining outside of fanart

but this thing kept going

I hope FOE also has 50 page asides about how history is not shaped by individual great ponies, but by the masses of nameless ponies.

I was somewhat peer-pressured to read Past Sins and make a piece of fan art.
I did many regrettable decisions in the past and that is also one of them.
