You know you work with old business software that you have to maintain when its documentation (sparse and not saying much) mentions that it works IE6 and Firefox 1.5. It's already on its way to the grave but I've been assigned to be the one in case something urgent happens but that is very unlikely. In half a year my company shuts down support for that after 15 years.

Is newer code written entirely using German names over there? I've heard that the tech world is so heavily based in English that a lot of classes, conventions, seminars, and any other business in the field are often conducted in English even outside the anglosphere. Still, I'd expect it would generally be easier to name objects in code in the native language of the people who will be working with it, even if all the keywords are generally in English.

Usually code is written in English here. Comments and documentation vary from project to project.
I for one keep everything English just to reduce the switching overhead between different languages.
Also it keeps naming and intent consistent with a lower risk of confusion due to a translation/localization error.
And because of the standard library functions and classes the own code fits in.

AFAIK only in programming education for children who are not fluent in English are taught with non-English code.
