Yep creator-owned is 70 years after their death, which is fine. Corporate-owned is a whole different ball game, mostly thanks to Disney's massive lobbying effort in the 1970s when they realized Mickey Mouse was about to fall into the public domain. Mickey is set to fall into the public domain in 2024 now, so expect another enormous legal battle over it.

Where do trademarks fall under? Even if the copyright for Mickey somehow expires, Disney can keep the trademark indefinitely because trademarks never expire as long as they continue to use it in someway.

That's the case with Felix the Cat. Being 100 years old by now, copyright for the character technically expired, but Dreamworks still owns the trademark for him.

Should be easy for them as Mickey is a symbol that defines the company, which is the benchmarks trademarks have to meet that copyrights do not. For example, the Coca-Cola script.

hey PPPP, have we talked about the Netflix planedragon vore anime? Because I feel like we need to acknowledge the Netflix planedragon vore anime... it's "soft vore," so apparently it's fine?

Anyway, Netflix was just recommending me this, under the category: "Because you watched My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic"... I guess they both have dragons

I'm not watching it.

I finished reading the Bobby London "Popeye" comics, and I must say, shit got WILD

Highlights include...

- Popeye and co. riding on the Yellow Submarine (King Features owns both Popeye and the movie Yellow Submarine, so technically an official crossover, although none of the characters from the movie appeared, just the submarine)
- Bluto going to war against Brutuses (Bluto clones from different eras of "Popeye"), which ends up destroying Popeye's hometown's economy because Popeye fighting Bluto/Brutus was a major economic drive.
- Popeye getting into a fight with the licensing department of the syndicate, in a story actually titled "Popeye and the Stupid Little Hat"
- Olive Oyl (is mistaken for) getting an abortion.

Yeah, all of these things happened

The abortion storyline in particular got Bobby London fired from "Popeye". The whole thing with what happened behind-the-scenes over that is one big clusterfuck.

The abortion story in particular involved Olive becoming a shopoholic, buying anything she can find in Infomercials. One of the things she bought was a realistic-looking doll that looked like Bluto that Olive wanted to get rid of.

But due to misunderstanding, everybody thought Olive was going to abort Bluto's child.

Yes, those are things that happened in the comic.

Again, it was a weird time in comics.

Yeah, Mickey Mouse as a character isn't falling into the public domain any time soon. The only things that expire in 2024 are the earliest Mickey cartoons, like Steamboat Willie.

Something I noticed reading the Popeye comics: Olive is kind of an asshole.

It's established that the Oyl family are conniving jerks who would take advantage of each-other and their friends in order to gain profits, Olive included. The reason Popeye keeps going back to her is because he's loyal to a fault, something Bobby London pointed out in the strips he did.

At least in London's comics, Popeye seems to get along with Olive's brother more than Olive herself (Castor Oyl is pretty much Popeye's close friend and is frequently seen together in the comics)
