The thing about genre is that it’s arbitrary bullshit and should never be more than a guide. Every genre can be good, and every genre can be shit. It’s all in the execution.

Well, humanity in Star Trek had WWIII but they got over their post-apocalypse pretty well. Futurama had a couple of apocalypses while Fry was frozen (including the second coming of Jesus).
