Re: I'M GOING TO EAT MEAT
This. The best garnish is gmos. We figured out how to do Jurassic Park on meat and it hasn't eaten anybody yet, but somehow this makes some people NOT want to eat it? Growth hormones are cruel though don't get me wrong, and granted, it feels wasteful to be genetically modifying a deer to make it taste better instead of making it know how to ollie.Gloomy Rube wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2020 12:03 amanyway your first mistake was buying something "non gmo verified"

My favorite part is how they advertise that a literal stick of meat is GLUTEN FREEGloomy Rube wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2020 12:03 amhere today, deer tomorrow

what I'm curious about
is this like an actual piece of meat
or like a bunch of stuff processed into a paste and then poured into something that looks like meat

Re: I'M GOING TO EAT MEAT
Back when this fad diet was just starting, I remember rolling my eyes at a box of frozen hamburger patties saying it didn't have any gluten. Literally the only ingredient was beef, but still, I guess you have to appeal to science-phobic customers if you want their money.

Re: I'M GOING TO EAT MEAT
Remember to press your tofu before cooking it
Stir fries with tofu are really tasty and fast to cook, but they require a ton of prep with cutting vegetables.

Re: I'M GOING TO EAT MEAT
Also reminds me of when I saw like a bag of jellybeans or some other kind of candy labeled as a FAT FREE FOOD. I think my eyes rolled out of my skull and across the floor.Fizzbuzz wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2020 9:45 amBack when this fad diet was just starting, I remember rolling my eyes at a box of frozen hamburger patties saying it didn't have any gluten. THAT SAID
Actual gluten free food needers (as opposed to fad dieters) do benefit from such a label, because you'd be surprised where gluten creeps in even on products that you would think would be pure meat, due to stuff like fillers or just cross contamination. I had a friend who would sometimes get screwed over by that stuff.

Re: I'M GOING TO EAT MEAT
I don’t know but my guess is, if these were parts of the deer you could make a delicious-looking steak from, they would’ve made that instead

If you're gonna have your first piece of meat in forever, I'd recommend going full filet mignonToastGhost wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2020 1:28 pmI guess it's a processed bar but still what difference does it make to me?

Re: I'M GOING TO EAT MEAT
This thread made me go dig up a couple of old issues of MAD (like, from 2001-2002) that somehow got mixed into stuff I had from when I was a kid because I thought I remembered them having a joke about how vegetarians who go back to eating meat could start by eating crow, but it wasn't in either of them.
Anyway, that's my story, hope you enjoy your other processed meat, OP.

Re: I'M GOING TO EAT MEAT
This is really true. The most bizarre things can have gluten in them, and celiac disease will put you in the hospital for making one bad call. We have a "gluten free" pizza at work, but it's prepped in all the same places as the glutenous pizzas, so it isn't fucking gluten free, is it?Bigdog wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2020 1:02 pmActual gluten free food needers (as opposed to fad dieters) do benefit from such a label, because you'd be surprised where gluten creeps in even on products that you would think would be pure meat, due to stuff like fillers or just cross contamination. Re: I'M GOING TO EAT MEAT
You see, it's free enough of gluten to appeal to people who don't know what gluten is but think it sounds scary and thus should be avoided. I bet the pizza chains would love to source "non-GMO" ingredients to appeal to the same crowd, never mind the fact that we've been genetically modifying organisms ever since we invented selective breeding.

eh its prolly safe to eat but likeToastGhost wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2020 1:28 pmI guess it's a processed bar but still what difference does it make to me?
Dutch fast food culture is based around essentially leftover meats from cows, pigs etc processed and deep fried
and its p bad for you but cheap and delicious as well
so seeing this represent itself as some fancy gourmet thing is just funny to me

Re: I'M GOING TO EAT MEAT
it's also kinda like a ship of Theseus situation
the thing contains product from grass fed deer sure, but how much of it is still 'recognizable' as such?
is the thing even made from just one animal?

Haha good point. I guess if something is just neutrons, despite having matter there's no complete atoms so therefore no chemicals
