it's possible it is, all i've so far found is you can buy some characters, but otherwise the game hasn't really prompted me to buy anything

Speaking of mobile rhythm games, I just remembered that Miku Flick exists. It's a rhythm game where you type an arbitrary bunch of syllabus from Hatsune Miku songs using the Japanese "flick" input method at high speeds:
Very math.

Re: ITT Post Your Random Thoughts
Cytus II does have massive piles of DLC to buy, which is a pretty common model for mobile rhythm games. It's not infinite gacha microtransactions, though, just a big list of character playlists and song packs. I'm not sure you can still do this, but I got it with the $5/mo Google Play Pass which means I just have all of the DLC, apparently forever. Also, once they finish updating a game the developer typically releases a console version that's just a single full price purchase with every piece of DLC and no microtransactions.
The narrative and presentation of Cytus is honestly really cool. The storytelling is weirdly compelling and ambitious--I really love how much of the story is told through almost this internet archaeology of reading news stories and social media posts and learning about the setting's culture and society through the kinds of stuff people post--and every time I've hit one of the big twists it's been a really cool reveal. I honestly recommend it, the developers made a cool thing.

My favorite mobile game lately has been Shortyz, which just collects a bunch of free crossword puzzles from various newspapers and online sources. The app itself is free and there aren't annoying pop-up ads like most free games. I used to subscribe to the NYT crossword, but I let the subscription lapse and now with Shortyz, I no longer miss it.

I've been getting back into Pokemon Go, especially after I had to start doctor-mandated daily walks due to some severe back pains a while ago.

oh cool now I know why nachos are sold with the name of tortilla chipsOctavia wrote: ↑Fri May 29, 2020 4:11 pmThat dish is just called nachos. The chips themselves are called tortilla chips. Nachos are the dish with at a bare minimum tortilla chips and melted cheese, but usually they have a whole bunch of other stuff too, like beef, beans, green onions, sour cream, jalapenos, etc.
that said nachos to me just implies tortilla chips with dip so it's interesting how that works. also from what I've seen on the television it seems nachos are often served as just a pile with melted cheese on top, whereas my idea of nacho pan is literally more of a conjoined pan of nachos, cheese, beef, onions etc. with crème fraîche on top

I was reading a reddit largely dedicated to lighthearted trans memes, but I thought it was a Zombieland Saga rsubreddit because I got there through the "shut the fuck up terf" meme, and for about 10 minutes I thought the Zombieland fandom kicked fucking ass and was pride as fuck.

Re: ITT Post Your Random Thoughts
For various reasons, I never got around to watching Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame all the way through until today. It's... not the complete trainwreck it's gotten a reputation for being, but the tone problems are definitely there and they're definitely unforgivable. (The one big sin is that it violates the "make the comic relief characters mysteriously vanish when shit gets serious" principle that even Disney had always been diligent about following before then. In fact, it doesn't just not get rid of them; it gives them more screen time than they'd had in the whole movie up to that point, in a scene that easily could have been kept in if they'd moved it up to an earlier point and changed a couple lines.)
But what struck me is what an accidentally on-point parallel to current events it ended up being. You've got a villain whose obsession with "order" has led him on a racist crusade against an already-disadvantaged ethnic group. You've got a soldier who's immediately disgusted with the thuggish behavior of the local law enforcement towards said group, but also way too concerned about them knowing he's one of the good ones. You've got the villain and his guys refusing to stop a crowd from assaulting an innocent man because they don't belong to the ethnic group he despises. You've got a populace who finally gets fed up with the villain's crusade when it spills over into indiscriminate violence and rises up against him. But the weirdest part is, as a side effect of having changed the villain from a priest to a secular authority figure—a change Disney was understandably criticized for at the time—you've even got an ongoing conflict between him and the real priest that culminates in him ordering his thugs to lay seige to a church as the helpless priest looks on in horror.
It couldn't be more uncanny if they'd tried.

There's a fan cut called something like "Hunchback of Notre Dame without those fucking gargoyles." I recommend it.

The gargoyles could have been neat or at least thematically useful if they were actually just in Quasimodo's head, born of his isolation. But no, they actually interact with soldiers and stuff in the big, final action scene, retroactively ruining large portions of the film.

Re: ITT Post Your Random Thoughts
Yeah, most things where the comic relief isn't present are really great, and Hellfire tops the list by a mile. The only other detail I'd call the movie out on is some very questionable perpetuation of Romani stereotypes despite the sympathetic depiction the film goes for.

Re: ITT Post Your Random Thoughts
Hunchback swings way harder than any of the other "Disney Renaissance" films in many respects while simultaneously being the one most weirdly shackled by Disney's tropes, and it makes for a really bizarre work on the whole.

One thing about learning and doing animation in earnest is that you learn about common techniques and terminology taught in animation school.
Consequently, it made me realize the biggest thing that bothers me about the animation in "Family Guy". Specifically, they never do Ease In/Ease Out. Here's a video giving a quick explanation:
A lot of TV animation don't always do this, but it's especially egregious in "Family Guy" because of how even everything moves.

I wonder if there will be a statistically significant increase in the birth rate in about half a year.
I also wonder if people will call them Covid-babies or Covid-boomers or pandoomers (maybe this one should be reserved for other people).

Sucks that "zoomer" is already taken because it would be perfect for people born at a time when everyone was using Zoom.
