And 1% was the couple of pictures I drew for PonyFest Online when I thought it needed hype in the early days, which is still the most publicly I've posted anything I've ever drawn.

Re: ITT Post Your Random Thoughts
Something I've been wondering: how did "cartoons about a comically large dog" become, like, a trope?
The most famous examples are probably "Marmaduke" and "Clifford", but there were quite a few of these around. There were a couple of cartoons from Walter Lantz about a Great Dane (apparently Lantz really loved Great Danes), and Hanna-Barbera even had a show called "Dinky Dog", about two sisters buying a dog for their uncle, only for the dog to grow huge.
I dunno. Was wondering about it

I think the big dog trope probably draws from the same well as "teenagers have big feet" and stuff like that in comics. It's "Oooh, this large being makes life difficult but golly I still like 'em." and I guess that resonated with people

Re: ITT Post Your Random Thoughts
In the cases where the dog is a Great Dane, I think it came about because they really are an extremely large breed. Being so large is notable on its own, but it might also thus be easier to feature a dog alongside humans if that dog would stand waist-to-chest-high with most of us than if the dog is a tiny little Chihuahua or something.Mr. Big wrote: ↑Wed Jul 01, 2020 2:16 amSomething I've been wondering: how did "cartoons about a comically large dog" become, like, a trope?

Scooby-Doo is another animated Great Dane.

What if those criminals used their abilities for making super convincing special effects on a very limited budget and made more money with that than with a stupid mansion/buried treasure/other poor investment?

I mean, yeah Scooby Doo is a Great Dane, but they never really did jokes about him being huge.

That was actually a really good story, from back when Moffat was restrained by not being head writer and his skills were put to good use. Unfortunately, being one of his pet stories, elements and characters from it got waaay over-pushed once he was in charge.

Considering how bad US political twitter is, I really don't want to know what Dutch twitter is like

for the longest time dutch politics felt kinda boring and slow, but not nearly as inflammatory or standoff-ish as it is today (or is made out to be)
idk, there was a level of civility to it?
there were rumblings before the advent of social media, but nowadays you can't find any decent discussion about Dutch politics anywhere online
the extremeness is bleeding into real life too
a friend of mine walked past a house in his neighbourhood where they had "one-and-a-half-meter society = facial recognition drones" in chalk on the sidewalk
the people who wrote that struck up a conversation with him and turned out to be bonafide conspiracy nuts
another example is that a family member shared stuff from "viruswaanzin" (virusinsanity), a movement that's trying to sue the government for "unfairly locking down the country" and infringing on people's rights
idk not taking steps to prevent the possible deaths of tens of thousands of people seems more insane to me
you can have legitimate gripes with how authorities handle crises and it's part of a free country / democracy etc etc to be able to call that out
but there's these changes in the language and the way that discussions are held that are in my experience that are Not Good for anything productive

Re: ITT Post Your Random Thoughts
I think it has more to do with the fact that the government can’t do anything right in these people’s eyes, so whatever they do is wrong and must be opposed.
Certain political party before the government took corona measures: “WE NEED A LOCKDOWN! THIS VIRUS IS KILLING PEOPLE! THE GOVERNMENT IS COMPLICIT TO MURDER! TAKE THEM TO COURT!”
Same political party immediately after the government took corona measures: “WE NEED TO END THE LOCKDOWN! SOCIAL ISOLATION IS KILLING PEOPLE! THE GOVERNMENT IS COMPLICIT TO MURDER! TAKE THEM TO COURT!”
