Hell, even just listening to music saved to files on your computer seems like enough to put you in the old category these days, much less listening to music on physical media.
These days you either stream your music or listen to it on vinyl and there's no in between.

Unless you're hipster royalty then in that case I hear cassette is making a comeback

The best part is that pee doesn't really help jellyfish stings at all. It didn't have to be like this.

The unfortunate truth about jellyfish stings is that the ones that will kill you will kill you pretty much no matter what, because they paralyze your lungs far quicker than EMTs can get onto a beach to assist your breathing.

Not nearly as terrifying as cone snails when it comes to aquatic venomous creatures

Blue-ringed octopi are similarly deadly. Their venom is technically less potent than a cone snail's, but the difference is essentially between "would kill you five times over or ten," so the point is somewhat moot :-I

In Animal Crossing: City Folk and Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Bunny Day was the AC equivalent of Easter. Falling on Easter Sunday every year, the event is organised like an egg hunt, with players receiving limited-edition furniture in return for the eggs they find. And, much like Toy Day, the event only lasted for one day (although unlike Toy Day, the mascot Zipper is incredibly sinister - it’s been hinted that he’s actually someone/something in a bunny costume, not an actual bunny).

However, Animal Crossing: New Horizons decided to change things up a little. For one thing, the event is now almost two weeks long, lasting from April 1st to April 12th (which is Bunny Day itself). And what’s more, the eggs have now permeated almost every aspect of island life - much to players' horror.

Let me explain.

With the introduction of crafting in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, there was obviously the need to make crafting materials available. This was introduced in a variety of ways: players can hit rocks and chop trees to gather necessary materials, which enables them to make furniture and other items. However, during Bunny Day, a proportion of those materials have been replaced with eggs. These eggs only have one purpose: to create Egg Day themed furniture (which a lot of players think is ugly. I'm personally ambivalent apathetic - thanks u/QuiteMaybeOfYou!). The eggs themselves don’t even sell for much money. This means that players have to chop more trees and hit more rocks to get non-egg materials, which is a big waste of time.

But wait, it gets worse!

In AC, a main feature of your town is a museum run by the delightful owl Blathers. Players can contribute bugs and fish they catch to the museum, which will display them immediately. This especially appeals to completionist players. However, as previously mentioned, AC is based on the real world’s timescale, which means that some bugs and fish are only available at certain times of year. For example, the sturgeon fish is only available between September 1st and March 31st - which means that when Animal Crossing: New Horizons was released, players only had 11 days in which to catch the sturgeon before it disappeared until September.

The current time-sensitive fish is a tuna fish, which is only available between November 1st and April 31st. This normally wouldn’t be a problem, except Bunny Day has also replaced a proportion of the fish in the rivers with, you guessed it, eggs. This is probably the most unpopular aspect of Bunny Day - previously-rare fish are now basically unobtainable until the 12th. Furthermore, with the introduction of crafting, the devs also introduced the concept of your tools breaking (previously, every tool except an axe was indestructible). This made a lot of fans frustrated because they were breaking multiple fishing rods while fishing for nothing more than eggs. Fishing rods take time and materials to craft - materials which are now harder to come by as a direct result of Bunny Day.

But wait, there’s still more!

Bunny Day is, in and of itself, not a bad festival. Admittedly the furniture isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, the mascot is a little weird, and it goes on for too long. But these problems could all be forgiven if not for the fact that it has the misfortune of coinciding with - and engulfing - a much more popular and short-lived festival, the cherry blossom festival.

In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the cherry blossom festival runs from the 1st to 10th of April. In this time period, players can catch rare floating cherry blossom petals, which are used to craft a lot of very tasteful and pretty furniture. Compared to the garishness of Bunny Day, many players are desperate to craft some cute picnic sets and bonsai trees. However, in order to craft these items, you need recipes, which are usually found in message bottles on your island’s beach. And, much to players’ disappointment, almost all of the message bottles right now only contain Bunny Day recipes.

For what it's worth, Nintendo hugely cut the spawn rate of eggs shortly after the event began. They had likely balanced it around casual players who might play only a few times in those two weeks, not people in the early days of a quarantine who had literally nothing else to do but play Animal Crossing.

They replaced one other thing with eggs too: your neighbors' dialog. They wouldn't shut up about how you can get eggs by fishing and shaking trees—and specifically advising you that you're more likely to get them by shaking palm trees, which apparently isn't even true.

And the quality of the villager dialog in this game was already not great, with people noting that they seem to just straight-up have less unique lines compared to earlier games. Mind you, that might be the inevitable result of having to throw out the existing lines and write all-new ones for the same characters every single time they put out a new game in the series (four times so far).

It's likely also due to the staggered release schedule that this game is getting. Prior Animal Crossing titles had all their content right there at launch (New Leaf's big expansion was to freshen it up since Nintendo knew that a mainline AC game on the Wii U would flop by then), but New Horizons is getting new content added every month. This was the same strategy that helped Splatoon create and keep a devout fanbase, but I suppose it has yet to be seen whether it'll help with player retention for Animal Crossing.

I want to buy a game and get a whole experience and not a patchwork of promises of future experiences.
Big DLC and Expansion Packs a long time after release doesn't count when the base game was a whole experience in the first place.

Splatoon at least did it well by 1. actually following through on the promised content to come (some critics were skeptical of this back in 2015 and dinged the first game's reviews thusly) and 2. not having any microtransactions (the only paid DLC was a whole-ass extra single-player campaign in the second game). But that's another one of those cases of Nintendo managing to buck the industry trend in a good way, it seems.

I think Nintendo usually gets away with it a bit more because their updates are free. They do some paid DLC but they don't go overboard with it the way other companies do.

To be fair, Animal Crossing has always gated its content off behind real-world timestamps. It's just that, until now, impatient people could bypass them by cheating, and now they can't.

That said, it does bug me that the data on the actual cartridge will never equal a whole game and will always rely on an internet connection to deliver the rest. Nintendo should have designed the Switch cartridges to include rewritable flash memory and design the console to record patches and updates to that.
