Also, "Wolf Tracer Studios" is such an unfortunate name as well. Thinking about it more, I can kinda see how it might have sounded cool to some people at the time—it almost sounds like the name of some badass action hero, or film noir private eye—but my initial reaction was that it sounds more like a snarky term for untalented furry artists. Like, "He's just one of those wolf-tracers."

What gets to me is that the investors didn't see any footage until after it aired, although before it was finished one of the animators walked up to the investor and told him he was getting ripped off.

That lead to him getting fired before it was finished, which meant the remaining two animators had to work overtime to get the special done on time.

Also one of the crew members had this cup made:

Also, dear lord, they only had 4 months to complete the special. The production was so rushed they didn't have time to do any storyboards and had to go straight to the animation. Yeesh.

She's basically Mushmouth from The Cosby Kids. I don't know why people couldn't believe they would do that on purpose. It's probably the one genuinely entertaining thing about the special.
While at it, the writer of the article shared excerpts from the script, confirming this is how it was written:

Something that occurred to me is that, for all we make fun of Dingo Pictures, we don't actually know much about the company itself, or who's behind it.

As it turns out, it's because there's very little information about the company, and what little is out there is hard to verify. That didn't stop a few people from giving it a shot, tho

There's also a Russian YouTuber that traveled to Germany and actually went to the last-known address of the Dingo HQ, which turned out to be some house in Friedrichsdorf. The mailbox with the name was still there:

The heck?

giving me strong vibes of the audiophile record label which always bragged about how great it was that turned out to be a P.O. Box rented from a postage shop

I imagine Dingo never had a huge crew to begin with, although the exact number of people involved is a mystery.

Gotta say, "Hartland", a 1980s comic strip, looks very, very, VERY familiar.

Even the lettering is similar.

Looked the artist up. He's a kids book illustrator now.

I actually like his current style. It's almost hard to believe it's the same artist.

Hey, remember last spring when I cleaned out my computer and found a dead capacitor?

I've been having some new problems lately, and after reading a suggestion that there might be a flaky connection somewhere, I decided it was way past time to unseat everything, spray some contact cleaner/lubricant into all the sockets and plugs, and put it all back together. Simple, right?

...Except I discovered that the dead capacitor's neighbor is now dead as well, along with another cap near the RAM sockets. :-I

This is still the same computer I bought 13 years ago, and the motherboard and CPU are the only parts that have never been replaced. And somehow it's able to shrug off three dead caps. I swear this damn thing is a zombie possessed by its own ghost. Cursed to walk the earth forever even as its corporeal form continues to decay. That said, I'm going to order new caps. And maybe replace some of the others as a preventative measure; most of them seem to be the same two types.

People generally don't bring up the Ruby-Spears version of "Heathcliff", but I instantly recognized June Foray voicing Iggy and Grandma in this version.

I think this is one of the very few times Mel Blanc and June Foray starred together in a non-Looney Tunes related cartoon.

This was a few years before the DIC version, yeah. Ran for two seasons on ABC.

The second season had the "Heathcliff" segments paired with "Marmaduke" cartoons. Two comic strips for the price of one show.

Pointless thing I remembered today. Ever wondered why the Filmation cartoons had this spinning producers credit?

Image

Apparently this was done because Lou Scheimer and Norm Prescott couldn't agree on whose name should get top billing, so they did this circular credit as a compromise so that neither names would be on top of each other.

Is the order of credits really that big of a deal in the entertainment industry? It all seems like much ado about nothing, yet it's something I see again and again in these contexts.

I don't know how it is now, but at least back then, yeah, it was something they took seriously and considered.

One studio would alternate getting top billing so that Person A would be listed first on odd-numbered episodes, while Person B would do so on even-numbered episodes.

Ever see a movie poster with the actors' names going across the top, but the actual characters on it are standing in a different order? Billing is still a big deal, yeah.

Now that it’s on Netflix, I’ve been watching this obscure little cartoon called “Avatar: The Last Airbender”. Have you heard of it? It’s pretty good.

OK but seriously I know I’m behind most folks in catching this. Anyway, halfway through S1 currently, liking it a lot. Had not known Dave Filoni was involved in this; makes sense, it has his touch. Aang appears to be good with animals in the same way as Ezra Bridger, and in both cases that opens good worldbuilding possibilities; your series can showcase more cool critters if your cast is able to hang out with them.

Later I’ll probably be asking y’all if Legend of Korra is as good.

My Korra opinions by season:

Season 1: Good
Season 2: eeeeh good-ish?
Season 3: The best!
Season 4: Hella good!
Comics: Also quite good.

If the old forums were still around, I'd point you to the thread where I, and then Headless Horse as well, watched all of ATLA and Korra and commented on each episode. Anyway, ATLA was a series that absolutely got better with every season.

Tuca & Bertie is good right from the start :rainbert:, it took me a bit to acclimate to the animation but that’s not the show’s fault, it was mine for expecting Bojack Horseman 2.0.

E: Now, Bojack ... you wanna talk about a show that takes a while to hit its stride.

UPDATE: finished S1 and started S2. Shit is getting real.

After this is over I will of course have to watch the M. Night Shyamalan movie so I can appreciate what a disaster it is, apparently.

What movie? That movie doesn't exist. ATLA never got a movie. Especially not one with dreadful special effects, pathetic martial arts, and a story that's the entire first season compressed into a couple of hours.
