Same here. Also especially due to my financial situation, pizza generally is cheaper and more filling for my dollar. (Though I did discover that Little Caesar's really isn't half bad for its price. I like it better than other chains, and the actual pizza places around here are very pricey.)

I'm very conflicted on whether I should be disgusted by burgers that look like that. This is an uncomfortable feeling.

All these burgerpictures are just making me appreciate pizza more. It just all looks so bleh to me. :bluh:
The problem with burgers is it's really hard to bump into a good one here. There are the McDonalds and Burger King ones, and occasionally there are some local vendors and such, but it's all mediocre quality. Which is fine for most people, because they aim for the price (cheeseburgers from McD cost around $1.20).
On the other hand you can't go wrong with ordering a pizza here, although finding a place where they can make a really good one is quite tricky.

Well, this is kind of like the haute couture of hamburgers. Or if you prefer, the FIA Group B of hamburgers. A Nearly unlimited class that produced marvels, but in practice, an unsustainable mess.

I'd shake my head disapprovingly at you yanks but I'm drinking something that a local brewery calls American Pale Ale and it's pretty good, so I'm in a jovial mood.

^^ That's Lunchbox Labratory's Big Bleu Marble

Now beer is a special case - there's a documentary on that.
https://movies.netflix.com/WiMovie/Beer_Wars/70116984

There's a million small producers all trying things. Even two of my co-workers are brewing their own. But large producers like Anheuser-Busch InBev have a near monopoly over distribution, so the reputation of American Beer = cheap horse piss is made.

I'm in London last month and I notice a pile of beer cans at a train station and they're all Stella Artois. Except in the US a pint of Stella could sell for twice a pint of Budweiser on par with Samuel Adams, the largest microbrewer. It's "the fancy imported stuff" The power of branding. :gotcha:
And let's not go into the 'premium Vodka' market; Grey Goose, Effen, Svedka, Level, etc

Off topic, I know

Premium vodka is hilarious since the markup gets obscene given that extra distillations shouldn't really add that much cost to it.

Not to mention you can just do it yourself with a charcoal filter a couple of times.

Extra filtration makes it better, but not top-shelf.

It also completely ruins the filter and those things are way more expensive than the difference between low-end vodka and mediocre vodka.

There's no denying that eating big burgers will get messy, but I think most people assume you must eat an equal proportion of every layer with every bite. If it's so large, treat it like it's a ball and just dig bites into it while eating at a direction from its "sides" so you're not just munching on buns from the top and bottom.

But again, it's very hard to finish a giant specialty burger without getting messy. I definitely wouldn't order a burger at a restaurant unless I was with friends that I'm totally comfortable being a slob around. Same goes for pizza even if it's cleaner to eat, because both pizzas and burgers are finger foods and altogether not very dignifying if you're eating with a more formal crowd.

Also they're usually tall like that for presentation purposes. They smush down a bunch when you actually go to eat them.

A tiny piece of cauliflower, which on its own is rather boring and tasteless, but it's part of the giardiniera mix that gives this deep dish pizza such a wonderful spicy kick in the ass. Mix in with the sauce before cooking, and it slowly infuses its spicy oil throughout the crust and toppings, waking up the flavor of the pizza like nothing else I've ever put on a pizza before.

We hate chain places like UNO's and BJ's, that claim to serve Chicago Style pizza, but get it completely wrong. Real deep dish pizza from Chicago staples like Pequod's, Gino's East, Giordano's, Lou Malnati's, or Pizano's is loved in this city, and there are many arguments from its citizens over which place is the best.

I've had Gino's at the restaurant, it was pretty good. I've made my own deep dishes and it's one of my favorite styles. I love tons of sauce and cheese.

Uno is like a great big patty of melted cheese on top of a flaky buttery pastry crust, if I recall properly. They pulled out of the California market long ago, so it's been a while since I had it.

On the BURGER front, today I took a field trip to Meriden and had one of these:
