Re: πΊπ½ furry thread 2: reminder the correct pronunciation of gif is "yiff"
This is gonna sound weird, but it may not in fact be a dog. In fact I like dogs way more as pets than I can think of myself as one.Fizzbuzz wrote: βMon Aug 12, 2019 8:11 pmIs there a particular animal whose natural appearance and behavior you like, or whose traditional depiction in art and literature you feel represents some aspect of you, or who comes from or is associated with your homeland or another part of the world that matters a lot to you, or an animal you just think is cute?
Pick one and toss in some other features you like and you're done. You gotta get a gimmick, as they say.
Like if I'm being honest, more anthro cats/foxes stood out in fiction to me as cool more than anthro dogs. See: Captain Claw, Mao Mao, hell even Capper from the MLP movie was pretty awesome to me (though that may be my star wars lando fanboy speaking too). Then there's like Fox McCloud and Khimari who stood out to me as badass videogame anthro foxes/cats growing up.
For Dogs I have... Bill Grey and Wolf O' Donnel from Star Fox and that's kinda it? Don't get me wrong I like them both a lot, but I can't see myself saying "yeah this reps me."
This is really weird because I am way more of a dog person than I ever was a cat person, but an anthro cat "feels" better for repping me, ya know?
Edit: probably has to do with the whole cunning/sneaky angle they have associated with them now that I think about it.

Be whatever calls to you and inspires you. If that's a cat then that's a cat and that's awesome. Don't second guess yourself out of it.

I know some people have multiple fursonas, some with different species. I technically have two (both cats), representing two different sides of me.
You don't need to limit yourself to one if you don't want to!

Multiple fursonas rule and they can mean different things/aspects to you and that's cool!

i'm already going down the hybrid route because it's hard to resist putting horns on your fursona, even if she's just an idea in your head.

It's funny, when I was a kid I made up a race of alien horned dogs and I still like the idea and might do more with them someday, but they wouldn't be "me"

When I was a kid I created this character who was basically a snake with long fur. He was a raccoon tail with eyes and nose.
I named him "Ernie".

I still wanna get some art of my trans peacock punk girl OC at some point but that character's more of a foil to myself that I find admirable than a sona

yeah at some point what people call "fursonas" seems to be more like they mean "OCs" rather than "fursonas", at least when it comes to what "fursona" means to me personally.Weird Autumn wrote: βTue Aug 13, 2019 3:38 pmI still wanna get some art of my trans peacock punk girl OC at some point but that character's more of a foil to myself that I find admirable than a sona
nothing wrong with having X number of OCs, it just gets confusing when people call them this or that instead of the other thing

well for me these different characters represent different aspects of myself so I dunno, they're both sonas and OCs? not sure

Yeah, it's the same with me. They're sonas in that they represent a different part of me, but I also use them for narrative purposes on stories and strips I write.

It's a fuzzy area to be sure. But like, for instance, you'll have authors and shit who are like "oh yeah these different characters represent these different aspects of me" but they didn't create them to serve as avatars or whatnot the way I tend to think of fursonas as being. But again that might be my meaning something different by fursona (or, alternatively put, fursona meaning something different to me) than it does for most people.Perrydotto wrote: βTue Aug 13, 2019 4:31 pmwell for me these different characters represent different aspects of myself so I dunno, they're both sonas and OCs? not sure

Re: πΊπ½ furry thread 2: reminder the correct pronunciation of gif is "yiff"
oh yeah it's totally individual and such, there is no one right way
for me it works kinda like there is a main sona that is my "all around" alter ego and my other sonas represent me more in specific aspects of my life

There's something delightful about how this reads, like, Vishnu is trying to figure out how he works in real time.Perrydotto wrote: βTue Aug 13, 2019 4:31 pmwell for me these different characters represent different aspects of myself so I dunno, they're both sonas and OCs? not sure

Re: πΊπ½ furry thread 2: reminder the correct pronunciation of gif is "yiff"
I don't think I could ever have more than one per fandom/fictional world/etc., but I see that as a sign of how I tend to rarely get into things and become incredibly devoted to them when I do. And even then, I expect I'll always keep a few common elements between any representation of myself, particularly the gray and blue/green color scheme. Otherwise, dividing aspects of myself between multiple characters all meant to represent me seems... I dunno, less authentic?

I only went about making a 'sona as an experiment, and it didn't really pan out. I feel more of a connection to the characters in my stories than my fursona, and they're all "feral" as far as the furry community is concerned.

feral fursonas are real fursonas
but ofc none of your characters need to be sonas, they can just be characters

Yeah, I guess. I just feel like this whenever I compare my characters to others:
