Depending on how "with it" your parents are, I can understand why they might not get that it was a fad diet. It definitely is one, of course, but it was a fad about 12-14 years ago.

Re: Pony Joe's: Post Not-So-Great Things That Happened
I just told dad it's a fad diet.
Got a 15 minute rant about how it's not, how "new science" is proving otherwise, and how "great" he and my mom are feeling (while I've been having trouble sleeping and feeling tired all the time)
I don't even get to enjoy fucking CAKE on my birthday now because it's in the middle of this two week bullshit.
I'm feeling trapped in my own house because I have no job, I can't even eat small amounts of chips regularly (I sneak them because I'm going to fight this any way I can), and the monotony of protein heavy meals is getting to me. And reading up on all the bad things this diet can do to your health is making me fear for my own because I don't exactly have health coverage right now.
I need something BIG, like a major publication saying this big push by many sources is completely invalid and these people are lying their asses off to get any traction. And because everything dates before that goddamn nightmare book that's convinced them of this insanity, THEY REFUSE TO BELIEVE ANY OF THE EXISTING EVIDENCE!

Re: Pony Joe's: Post Not-So-Great Things That Happened
siiiiiiiighs deeply and audibly...
So I'm interning at the UN in Thailand, communications department and initially it started out great. I had an intern partner to work, chat, and help with and at first the supervisors had me design a lot of posters, social media cards, banners, and so on.
Annnnnnnnnd everything went downhill after November. The partner's internship ended so she left. Not only did that mean I had no one to socialize in the office with but it also meant I stopped being adventurous in the sense that we would go to these events whether UN or local related (like festivals) and thus hang out with other people. She was kinda like my link to other people. Once she was gone, i stopped seeing them and her friends never invited me or contacted me too. Worse though, in November they hired a paid graphic designer and since November, they relegated me to doing boring-as-f*** paper-f***ing work
"Please count all the shares, likes, views from our social media from the last year."
"Please label all 156 photographs with the names of the photographer"
"Please rename all files in the P Drive to the new standard"
Like, this is just soul crushing to do. And it wasn't like the supervisors said my work was bad. Unless they lied and wanted to not offend me, they always said they liked my design work. Yeah, the paid designer is better and she can draw but i've now been completely denied from doing the job I was hired to do in the first place and i'm just doing these tedious mindless work.
I've asked if I could do design work and both the paid designer and the supervisors said there's no need and that I should continue doing the paperwork nonsense. Much of that used to be my partner's job but since her position is still vacant.
This sucks. I wonder why I even come to work when 98% of the time I spend here is just doing nothing. It's so boring i dont want to do work at the office thus I find myself mostly just reading articles, chatting, watching vids, etc.
And yeah, lastly, this internship is unpaid. And the supervisors say they can't pay interns or even continue hiring consultants (like our department's videographer who left because they couldn't continue paying him), while they're having these big expensive feasts and meals. Plus they're foreigners living in Thailand so you can damn be sure they're not struggling to pay the bills.

Still no offers for work. Other than some part time retail places offering me to be a cashier. Sigh...
My unemployment requires me to find full time work, and any part time money I make gets taken out of my pay from unemployment, so I basically get punished if I get part time work. Fuck this shit.

Due to what appears to have been unintentional damage dating back to when my house was first built, a water line broke yesterday and it was not fun trying to figure out how to shut it off. Eventually Dad and I did, but we're waiting for my uncle to come visit before attempting a repair (Dad's idea, I would have just called the plumber). Fortunately, the line itself was the line providing water to the refrigerator, meaning the only negative side to shutting the water off on that line is the fridge can't make ice or dispense water for a while, and we have ways around that in the meantime.

My motorbike's rear tyre picked up a wood screw somewhere on the road. It thankfully didn't deflate on the road, but at home I found that the screw went all the way through. Gonna cost money.

Does Pep Boys exist in your area? I don't know if it's just national in the USA or worldwide, but if you buy tires there, they have a road hazard warranty that lasts up to the mileage rating of your tires. I ran over a nail a few months ago and they fixed the puncture for me free of charge because I had purchased my tires there.West Filly wrote: โTue Jan 30, 2018 12:43 pmMy motorbike's rear tyre picked up a wood screw somewhere on the road. While there's no Pep Boys in the UK, this post did give me the idea to scout out a dealer who has a guarantee on their tyres. They might run the old "the tyre's lifetime ends the moment it has been punctured" racket, but I'm hoping not to find out either way.

seems my lung has already collapsed again
my doctor said they'd just use some special substance to "glue" the lung to the inside of my chest cavity if this happened again, to prevent it from ever happening again. i'm still not sure why they don't just do that in the first place, because there's like a > 50% chance you will end up back in the hospital when they don't

"Again"?
Umm, holy crap. How do I ask if you're okay without sounding stupid because you have a collapsed lung and are clearly not okay?

Re: Pony Joe's: Post Not-So-Great Things That Happened
eh, it happens
"collapsed" is a bit misleading because the lung is still functional, but it's usually how they refer to the situation without the unwieldy term "Spontaneous Pneumothorax"
from my understanding there's a tendency with people who are tall, thin, and/or smokers to have their lung leak air out into their chest cavity over time, where it gets trapped with nowhere to go and eventually ends up putting pressure back on the lung (and sometimes the heart), which results in the lung shrinking, which in turn makes it painful to breathe in too deeply. the word "spontaneous" is used in this case because (according to one of the doctors who saw me last time) they are only able to identify a cause for the leaking lung in about 50% of patients. the rest of the time, air apparently just kinda slips out from the lung without any sort of escape route that can be detected by x-rays or CT scans
either way, the treatment for this involves using a one-way air vent to remove the air from between the chest wall and the lung, which lets the lung re-inflate itself, which is how things went last time. but since this is the second time, i can look forward to the surgical glue thing i mentioned earlier

Re: Pony Joe's: Post Not-So-Great Things That Happened
well, things are moving this morning. i didn't have to go to the ER because my doc was able to see me and then order some immediate x-rays (under normal circumstances i would have just gotten follow-ups about a week from now)
we just got home and the doctor's office has already called and said that my lung is back down to ~80% capacity and one of the specialists is around, so it's time to head over to the hospital

I can't get an internship for the summer, I've sent out 20-50 applications including one in literal fucking North Korea which I figured no one else was crazy enough to apply for. I've gotten 5 callbacks, 2 were asking me to do an unpaid internship, 1 was a MLM according to glassdoor reviews, and 1 wanted me to do a different position than the one I applied for.

I know the feeling, given I've had the same luck in the job pool (which I got thrown back into after getting fired from my new job only a week in over something relatively minor) for years.Cthulhu Inc wrote: โWed Feb 21, 2018 2:43 pmI can't get an internship for the summer, I've sent out 20-50 applications including one in literal fucking North Korea which I figured no one else was crazy enough to apply for. I got into an apartment very much yay... But I need extreme help. I can't pay the first month rent cuz I have 2 storage unites I need to pay too. If I don't pay the rent I can't move in and tjen I can't get my daughter moved in. I'm only $300-400 short and idk if I can get enough taxi fares by the first to cover that! I'm hoping I can, but things are decidedly tight. Once I get into this place everything will fall into place and go right.
I can't even work today at all. This puts a huge damper

So still a bit short on rent and 3 days to get another $250 for the rent. I might end up having to push back the move in day. I really want to be moved in by the 6th.... 6th is my next conference with the department. I also have 2 storage units gaining too this sucks

I wrote a long thing about being frustrated and discouraged about not being able to sell things I make due to a perfectly reasonable law & the websites that would help me to comply (or at least get to the next steps) being "under maintenance" for an unknown amount of time. Also, I am afraid to spend any money on things that aren't the least expensive, prepare-at-home food options.

Re: Pony Joe's: Post Not-So-Great Things That Happened
That's very interesting, and very discouraging at the same time. I really do hope you find ways to deal with this, Princess Spaceship, because I think your plushes are lovely, safe and very much worth selling, donating, what have you. These laws are definitely coming from the right place, but I still gotta question how uptodate they are for the day and age of people selling selfmade things online, on a small handmade basis. Safety is good, but if the online resources don't even work right now and the process is needlessly complicated, how likely are people to go the proper route instead of just selling their stuff anyway?
I apologize if you've seen these already, but there is a community on Etsy with a bunch of advice that could be worth your time. I'm assuming "relevant information" means the typical stuff like materials used, how to wash, and what age the plush is appropriate for, on the tags sewn onto the butt or side of the plush somewhere.
It's super understandable all of this looks daunting and takes all the wind out of your sails right now. However, I do hope you don't give up on wanting to make things you enjoy, wanting to get some recognition and money for them in return, and wanting to spread joys to kids in hospitals that could really use it. The things you make are not junk, not even close - They just sadly fall under a law you weren't aware of and that's not being particularly approachable right now. Keep making things that make you happy, and tackle this issue step by step as you feel up for. Try not to stress yourself over what ifs since you don't have that information and realistically can't until you've actually gotten in touch with someone.
PS: Copyright is definitely the least of your worries. I know this is purely anecdotal, but from my experience and that of the literal dozens of other artists, sellers, etc. I know who make works based on copyrighted characters and sell them online, most big companies have a "live and let live" attitude about it. As long as you make it clear it's a fan- and handmade item, you should extremely likely be fine. Heck, I've bought several Pokemon items on Etsy alone that were not officially made and those shops have been operating for years without a hitch (I'm eyeing this Wailord next). I've not dealt personally with the Pokemon Company, but I have dealt personally with Hasbro, and my experience is that as long as you are not producing on a mass-manufactured scale and you are not making a product that is outright masquerading as an official product, you are very, very likely fine (That's why they try going after bootleggers mass-selling on Ebay, but not hand-made items sold on Etsy, at conventions, etc). Some more particularly paranoid companies love issuing takedowns, but from my experience the Pokemon Company is not one of them, and Hasbro isn't one of them. Most of these people know that their thriving fan community is something worth cherishing, and that Nerd McFanface sewing maybe two to three dozen of plushies per year is not worth going after considering the amount of trouble it would cause for what little, if any, gain it would bring.
You make great things that make you happy. Keep making them, and tackle whatever's ahead of you one step at a time.

Ugh, I'm pretty pissed off about my job situation right now. I tried going to the Department of Human Services, which seemed to be going in a positive direction, but now we're going in circles, which I should've expected from a chronically underfunded and overworked sector. I'm stuck with having no marketable skills or connections and no work experience. I really wish I had a friend to guide me through this stuff, but I have to rely on my aging, broken-down parents and it's infuriating.

I feel like I'm much in the same boat, currently - dad's been "retired" for three years to work on his screenplay career (which is going nowhere as far as I can tell), mom's working part time at least but it's not enough to support the family long term and we've got no insurance.RudeCyrus wrote: โSun Mar 04, 2018 10:49 pmUgh, I'm pretty pissed off about my job situation right now. I am so sick of people taking advantage of me as a female cab driver. I have been ripped off so many times it's not funny! I've lost so much money and time gas and the fares alone. People give me the excuse oh i'll just be a couple of minutes I need to go run in and get the money... And they never come back out! I'm fucking pissed as hell! And I don't even know how to prevent this shit from happening to me. I swear there's no signs in my cab that say free rides. I'm pretty sure I'm not telling them when they are getting my cab "don't worry I'll forget about the fair when we get therex. I don't even know how I'm supposed to be able to start being able to pay my bills and maintain my apartment if I keep getting ripped off like this it pisses me off so fucking much
Any of this comes up looking weird I'll go back and fix it when I can it's just I'm too upset to try to type all this out I'm using my Google Voice Assistant

Blegh, I feel like a total wreck as of late. Been sick the last week or so constantly, several friends have just been ignoring me and I have no idea why; at the very least they could at least tell me what I fucked up so I can fix it or try to but no, just no response.
Also I just got a call about owing a doctor's office from a visit last year and if i don't pay something on it soon it goes to collections but i can't afford to pay anything on it so it's probably going to collections and that'll just be *great*

Would it be possible to set up a camera facing towards the rear seat so you can report them to the police or something? I know some uber drivers do this.Sailor Yue wrote: โFri Mar 09, 2018 4:55 amI am so sick of people taking advantage of me as a female cab driver. I have been ripped off so many times it's not funny! Without a full name or location, any police reports will have to wait to see if they can find someone that matches the description of them . Colorado allows for secret recordings unless otherwise posted...

I can understand if, for example, one friend of yours wouldn't be able to respond because of sudden bad stuff going down. But multiple people ditching you really must be a bother. I'm sorry you have to go through that at the same time you've got other crap going on too.Dragoness wrote: โFri Mar 09, 2018 6:21 pmBlegh, I feel like a total wreck as of late. Re: Pony Joe's: Post Not-So-Great Things That Happened
A few weeks ago I deleted one week of progress and i backed up the wrong thing during that time.
I could restore the one week of work in one day because I knew what was done and where (also I could clean up the code).
But it threw up my schedule and morale down the drain.
