There is a connection between all those episodes. He reveals it at the end.
Yeah, there's a shared theme of missing the point of celebrations, but there's still the problem that some of these aren't particularly fantasy or story focused episodes; though the boat on that set sail a long time ago, I suppose.

Anyway, there are some good quips in this video, and he seemed to enjoy the episodes.

Hasbro's investor call and slideshow are out. Toys "R" Us closing and dumping their stock was a big hit, but some properties like MTG and D&D stayed hot.

I didn't see anything particularly interesting about MLP in there, or for that matter, much mention of it at all beyond them recouping costs from the movie. However, Toy Fair starts a week from today, so we could see some cool stuff then.

Yeah, everyone's too focused on the Toys'R'Us fallout. MLP seems to have been hit by that as an ongoing brand, while they mention other brands that are changing being less affected because their toy lines don't have a lot of unsold stock sitting around.
Yeah, so on the first point, you've heard others talk about brands that were ongoingly successful or big brands that had been in the market for a number of years, like our brands like Nerf and My Little Pony and our games business, where they were being incredibly well-supported by Toys-R-Us.

There was a bigger or outsized impact to those brands than brands that might be rebuilding over some period of time, and you also see where we had brand new innovations that weren't involved with the liquidation, whether that be for Monopoly or Magic: The Gathering or Dungeons & Dragons or even Transformers in the fourth quarter. Those brands performed quite well, and so you can see really the differences.
One thing: 2018 had a growth in "program production cost amortization," but Q4's was half what it was a year ago. I wonder what that means for production of the new series.

Toy Fair reveal of upcoming special (through tie-in toys): Rainbow Roadtrip
Leading up to Toy Fair, Hasbro and their fan-favorite My Little Pony brand have big news: Spinning out of an upcoming animated special, My Little Pony: Rainbow Roadtrip, comes the My Little Pony Rainbow Tail Surprise Collection.

The world of My Little Pony is all about bold, bright colors – but in My Little Pony: Rainbow Roadtrip, the Mane 6 visit a town devoid of color! They must work together to bring the rainbow back to the town. The accompanying toys feature ponies with colorless tails! Kids can put the tales in water to magically bring the color back. The toys and animated special will premiere this summer.

When Twilight Sparkle and her friends arrive in Hope Hollow, they find the town and all its residents completely devoid of color – their dream vacation is starting to feel more like a nightmare! The Mane 6 will have to solve the mystery behind this washed-out world if they hope to bring the "rainbow" back to the Rainbow Festival and color back to the lives of their new friends.

I guess it's time to rewatch The Runaway Rainbow. Though honestly, I'm fine with a G3 style story for a special.
It's funny that this all is to tie into one of those toys that change color in water.

Comicbook.com isn't all that reliable for news, but they have zero reason to lie about this, I think.

Also,

Oh damn, we could be getting our first Boulder Media special.
(Or Studio Trigger as a longshot)

On another note, a Valentines message from Tabitha St. Germain to Spike.

To skip the clickthrough: There's going to be a new MLP movie in 2021. No further details than that.

Yo, there are literally no story details out about it yet. We don't even know if it's going to use the Mane Six as we know them or if it'll be the beginning of G5. Keep your hopes up at least a little, man!

The EQD post also says it'll be 3D/CGI.

If true, that's disappointing to me. :pinkieshrug: One of my favorite things about the first movie was seeing high quality 2D animation, which we don't we get in theaters often enough.

Well, the promo image has Twilight and Spike, so I would take that as G4. The linked story also says it was referred to as MLP movie 2 (thought of course, being EQD, I take that with a grain of salt).

But it's a movie, there's really no chance it doesn't involve some big threat to equestria.

And if it's the G5 pilot, then there will be a threat to whatever pony-world is call there.

When the e-mail leaks came out -- from fall/winter 2017, very old news by now -- the scenarios they were talking about were:

Scenario 1: A CGI second movie in 2019, then G5 launches in spring 2020 ("risk exists around sequel CGI completion dates")
Scenario 2: A 2D second movie in fall 2019 that ends G4, then a CGI third movie in fall 2020 as a prequel to G5, which launches in spring 2021.

Note: Their notes worry about putting out 2D movies and see it as uncompetitive against CGI.
Also of note: Apparently their distribution deal with Discovery ends in 2021.

So if there's a second movie coming in 2021, does that mean G5 has been pushed back a year or two? Is this an end of G4 or a beginning of G5? I'd assume the latter. Maybe start G5 early and let the movie naturally show up between seasons?

Or maybe the whole timeline is being pushed out so they have an excuse to cut ties with Discovery Family and move to a different network?

"Starlight the Hypnotist" introducing Twilight's ladybug fear and watching a bunch of Miraculous resulted in this.

Honestly, what they did to Sombra in the last episode looked way more gruesome. Even here it was very mild.

Think of all the villains that have returned on this show, and then realize, the Diamond Dogs never did.

Such is the power of Rarity’s whining.

We've gotten hints that it'll be animated by Boulder Media and that it will use the Movie art style, so that will be interesting to see in both regards. Plus this is almost definitely a test run for a Boulder Media animated G5.

Well this came out of nowhere. Fan sequel to Turnabout Storm.
20 minutes in, it's pretty alright. It definitely has a lighter tone than Turnabout Storm, and I feel like everyone's speaking much more quickly with fewer pauses between dialogue. Plus it's nice having more of the Ace Attorney cast involved.

Here's an interesting Twitter thread that shows very early EqG concepts and some of the evolution of the look.

To this day I am still very curious as to what Hasbro wanted for the brand; were they ever supposed to be human, or was it supposed to be in the vein of Monster High or more connected to FiM, with the characters being dragged back to a more human appearance after the first couple of movies? It makes me wish EqG hadn't ended up as it did, since if the characters were like Twilight Sparkle in that first image, it would've been pretty cool.

Again, it bears repeating that the toy designs came before the show designs. The leggy nature of the sketches is likely based on that, since the dolls are already damn leggy.

As I see it, some of the design of "those mandated hoof things" (as she puts it for Rarity) survived into the first couple of movies, where they had roughly human-shaped legs but all wore such huge boots or similar that, visually, there wasn't much difference. EqG moved past this with the more varied outfits they got later, but while clothes are easy to change, they were still left with the people of Dougworld having extremely long and now obviously thin legs.
