The Perpetual Motion Machine (Writing Stuff)
Hey, all! I'm trying to be a writer! I recently finished my first short story, as part of a series that I'd like to compile into a full novel some day. So, here it is:
And You May Find Yourself
(uploaded to Fur Affinity because it has a furry bent to it and I couldn't decide where else to even post long-form fiction online. It is 100% work-safe and clean)
The story follows Sam Greensdale, who finds herself transported to a world inhabited by people stuck in the bodies of ordinary animals, ending up as a flying squirrel. I kinda see it as a combination of Lost and Animorphs, if that makes any sense. As stated above, this is the start of a series, so there will be more adventures to come.

I have also decided to experiment with taking writing commissions! You can find info on that here if you're interested.

You ever get hit with a plot bunny so hard that you're just going to drop everything and pursue that instead?
Now it's time for the greatest part of fantasy writing: worldbuilding!
I feel kinda bad just leaving my current story hanging, but I was running out of steam on the second story, and I'm proud of the first short story, anyway.

Never bad to change gears and see where your inspiration takes you! It's supposed to be fun, after all.

Re: The Perpetual Motion Machine (Writing Stuff)
In preparation to start writing again after having been sick for so long (still sick, but just tired of it), I did a bit of searching and decided that Fictionpress.com would be a better place to post my work than FurAffinity, especially since I'm not going to be sticking in furry territory forever. I'm re-uploading "And You May Find Yourself" there over the course of the next few days, and if you're interested in reading that with a much better interface (i.e. not having to download my word docs), you can do so here!

Also also! I think I'm going to start participating more on the creative forums on SA and will show my work around there to (likely) be torn apart. To that end I've set up all the chapters of my story (including a compiled version of the whole thing) in a shared Google Doc folder, so you can read it there, too, if you'd like.

Re: The Perpetual Motion Machine (Writing Stuff)
Upon reflection and some feedback, I've learned that this first attempt at the story is pretty crap. Not sure if I'm going to try and rehab the thing or try another idea, but I'll do something.

Iterating and chugging along is scary, but I'm really proud of you for willing to try it and give yourself and your thoughts a chance. They deserve it a lot.

Re: The Perpetual Motion Machine (Writing Stuff)
Starting this week, I've begun participating in the Thunderdome over on SA. It's basically a weekly competition in which you write under a prompt chosen by the previous week's winner, who is also the judge for that week. It seems like a good way to work out my creative anxieties in a low-pressure setting and receive more well-needed critique for my writings. As such, I will also be cross-posting my writings here for your perusal if you are so inclined. Feel free to tell me what you think!
This week's prompt was to find a piece of Atari 2600 box art and write a story based on it using only the title and the art itself, no canon from the game whatsoever. I found and chose this neat looking thing:
I really enjoyed writing it, and it was a rather light and breezy task compared to my more personal writings. Even if it's still no good, fun was had!
