They should just release a new cut of the movie every year. One with the 1.0 version they had to patch in theaters, one for the Butthole Cut, one with none of the special effects for theater afficionados, one for Lego Cats, etc.

Eventually there will be a version in which they replace all human actors with real cats clumsily assembled from internet videos (to cut down in costs).

Somebody thought it was a good idea to add butthole in the first place.
I wonder what that conversation was like

Nobody added the cat asshole, just the fur simulation there tended to add swirls (and, well, lines) and someone had to go edit them all out.

Cats done as a Lego movie would be an improvement over probably both the play and the movie, but also now I'm imagining Unikitty as a Jellicle Cat.SlateSlabrock wrote: ↑Thu Mar 19, 2020 12:07 amThey should just release a new cut of the movie every year. if the cats movie tried to look like a stage play, with sets and costumes and having actors who weren't there for star power i honestly think the thing would've been fine
like, seeing well done choreography and hearing catchy songs is perfectly fine for a movie

I'm still baffled that they got rid of the stylish manes for the character's.

This is what you get when you want to make a movie based on the popularity of a bunch of actors. They want to show their faces and not them being covered up, which makes everything worse.
BTW: I heard that some "fans" edited the movie to create their own butthole cut.

There was actually going to be an animated Cats movie in the late '90s, made by the studio behind Balto and spearheaded by no less than Steven Spielberg. (Although whether he would actually be directing or just slapping his name on as a producer credit because he owned the studio is unclear.) Here is some of the concept art.

Very math.

Re: How the hell did we not have a thread for the movie event of the year?
Before visual effects artists fully render sequences for animated films, they normally show directors playblasts—preview renderings that feature characters without color or texture. That allows the director to evaluate the motion before hours of work are done to flesh out things like color, texture, and lighting. Hooper, however, did not seem to grasp that process. Any time the visual effects team wanted to show the director any animatics, the source said, they had to fully render it. Otherwise, he’d say things like, “What’s this garbage?” and “I don’t understand— where’s the fur?”

Between this and Sonic the Hedgehog, VFX artists need to hurry up and unionize like basically everyone else in the film industry.Pocket wrote: ↑Wed Apr 08, 2020 9:14 pmSo it turns out the director of Cats both knew nothing about effects animation and is a horrible human being.

You know, I remember enjoying The King's Speech. Was I wrong? Or perhaps was it the acting that made it great?
Les Miserables was trash, though. A baffling adaptation of a terrific stage musical.

So, Andrew Lloyd Webber has been doing charity viewings of his musicals. Putting up ones that have had recorded performances, for free, on youtube for 48 hours starting Friday Afternoons. They've done Phantom, the Phantom sequel (which was even worse than it's reputation had prepared me for), Jesus Christ Superstar, and a few more (this past weekend was one called "By Jeeves", which I had never heard of.
