It's Halloween time! To get this thread going again, what is everybody doing on the 31st?

I'm going to sit outside in frigid weather (snow is not a non-zero chance suffice to say) in my Mr. Robot hat and hand candy to kids who might remember to say both "Trick or Treat" and "Thank You"

Also, I've decided to take part in National Novel Writing Month this year with the encouragement of a friend. Should help take my mind off the fact I'm still trying to find a job and nobody calls me. Yay!

My Halloween celebration was to spend the weekend binge-watching Stranger Things 2 with my partner.

Other than that, I'm doing a ton of work on a new show on NBC I'm writing music for. I'm super excited about it because it's one of the few shows that I write music for that I actually plan on watching when it airs.

Unfortunately I had to work today. Fortunately, dressing up for Halloween is a thing at work. And I've got tomorrow off, as it's a holiday in Belgium.

I'm working on a storyboard job I got during the weekend. It's a much shorter sequence, so I'm trying to get it done quick.

Alas, even I procrastinate

Even though it happened almost a week ago, I finally ordered and received my favourite hoodie.

Still on am indefinite my little pony hiatus. I'm surprised how much I'm avoiding spoilers and watching and stuff...

I'm currently on a loa till the 13th and this sucks cuz I'm trying to get into an apartment..... ><

Halloween was pretty uneventful, since both of my parents work and I've got stuff to do around the house.

I went and saw John Carpenter's The Thing in 70mm!

We beat our previous halloween record and had 19 trick or treaters come to our house this year!

I also found out that the Bitcoin Cash I had received during the blockchain fork in August was worth almost two months of extra student loan payments. That's 2 months less that I have to save up to pay off my student loans! Now here's hoping the same thing happens with Bitcoin Gold and Bitcoin2x this month, that converting it will be just as simple, and that Bitcoin won't lose all of its value before it's worth enough to pay off my student loans.

I figure that if you can get any amount of actual money out of bitcoins then that's a good thing, especially if it's a profit. So yeah, congratulations.

Aren't they worth 5 grand?

Today (or rather yesterday) I started my first entry into NaNoWriMo! So far at 3,481 words, well above the pace of 1,667 needed to reach 50K by day 30.

It's easy to buy a bitcoin for $5,000 or whatever. It's very, extremely difficult to sell one and have anywhere near that much cash on hand by the end of it.

I woke up this morning and it's over $7,000. That's crazy. I'm expecting to lose 1-5% through fees and another 30% through taxes (self-employment taxes, probably, I might actually need to hire a tax professional this year to make sure I don't screw something up) so they actually need to be up in price quite far before I can sell them. It's a nice bonus thing if it happens, but I can't count on it. That's also assuming my bank account doesn't get flagged for money laundering and frozen so that all of our bills bounce - I should probably tell them before doing this that something might be happening.

Yesterday I registered for classes. So come December I will be heading back to school. Pretty happy about that.

Itunes replaced my cartoon episode.

I'm at a Guns n Roses tribute concert this evening and it's pretty fricking great.

Went to the antiques store to see what they had.

I found some out of production Transformers, but the REAL gem? The HO scale Gandy Dancer - I've ALWAYS wanted one of these things and while I think they're relatively inexpensive, this one is in great condition (don't know if it works, my track is currently out of service for putting on scenery so I can't test) and was dirt cheap at $1.

I just finished GIVING my first interview. That’s right, for once I’m on the other side of the desk. We’re hiring and my bosses have entrusted me with talking with applicants, since I’ll be working closely and training them.

I feel so important! And so adult!

Went to a health check up today. I was dreading it, fearing the worst, but it went smoother than expected, and the doctor and nurse said I was fine.

I'm sure many of you remember the shitshow that was the job opportunity I took in Atlanta, which turned out to be a massive body shop scam exploiting young IT professionals.

Ever since, in the four months since escaping that, I've not had any luck with the job hunt until today, when FINALLY somebody set me up for a phone interview on Monday. It's not a guaranteed job but after four months of nothing but recruiters blowing me off, getting a phone interview is a godsend in comparison. It's also only an internal tech support job instead of software engineering, but hopefully the pay is good as it's a local company and I can springboard off this into programming like I specialize in.

I hear all the time about the problems that programmers have finding a new job. Good luck!

Had the interview an hour ago - went pretty well, though I'm of two minds about it as it's more infrastructure than programming.

On the one hand, it's a full time job with benefits, which I badly need.

On the other, it sounds like a small IT group (basically two guys and a third - the third is the open job position) and it's going to be somewhat stressful under a constant load of tech support requests. It is basically internal IT Help Desk (better that than Customer Support though) so it won't do much to get me actually toward programming unlike a number of other positions I'm waiting to hear back on.

I'm leaning more towards the former since it IS a job in IT in any form and I badly need experience of any sort simply to make my resume more palletable, even if I'll have to bunker down and work on a java app github portfolio if I want better programmer jobs down the line.

I think that IT toward developer is a good step and it sounds like it's worth doing to me. Take advantage of company training programs to get certs and practice development during slow periods or by taking advantage of the income to take classes.

Well, I might have spoken too soon - I've now got a entry level developer position lined up for discussion tomorrow.

If it doesn't work out, do you think I could borrow your husband? He's said he's made of bees, fire, and liquid nitrogen in another thread, so having him walk into an office to threaten people into giving me a job might be necessary

I would absolutely lend you the dingus powers if they would actually be beneficial in this situation, but somehow, I have doubts.
