I guess because of all the money that was donated for that Hub promo that a bunch of people wanted to air, somebody got this idea. You can now donate to a project that will buy a fucking island and name it Equestria, complete with a statue. If you donate at least $1,000 you get to go camping on it! Hell yeah!

I saw this and thought it would be a good topic for a thread. What are your opinions on this? Do you think it will actually succeed somehow, and better yet, do you think it should?

Personally I think this is pretty goddamned crazy. I mean, it's one thing to love the show but to try and do this... that's just stupid. I mean there are probably so many things regular people do not think about when it comes to having to run an island and the idea that a bunch of people who share a similar interest in a show can run an island is pretty bonkers to me.

Surprisingly it's fixed funding campaign and not flexible funding campaign, which means that if the goal is not reached no money is moved. It's not even a scam, just silly.

For that price you could have 2 Robinson R22s and theme them as Fluttershy and Rainbow.

At least those can go to conventions, easier than dragging an island around if I assume that is what they want to do

The promo was just going "hurr durr thanks Hasbro, here is money" when it could have been something like you're saying. All that money could have been given to a charity to buy gifts for kids in need or something but people just want to make themselves look better and cooler.

This island thing is just retarded. I'm a little shocked (although I shouldn't be) that other fandoms/gatherings have attempted to do something like this before.
