No really, come to Southern California and have a taco. I don't know what kind of tacos they're feeding you over in The Land Where God Hibernates in the Winter, but if they have anything in common with hamburgers then they're not being made right.

Same where I live. When you have hundreds of thousands of Mexican immigrants living in your city, the taco trucks are fantastic. I don't know if that sounds racist or not but damn it if its not true.Ragnar wrote: Come down here and say that.

Burger
Carefully formed patty as to maintain shape and perfect cooking.
Carefully arraigned cheese and toppings.
Carefully crafted toasted bun to house the meat tower.
Carefully engineered masterpiece of German Design.
Taco
Oh, clumpy ground is fine, whatevs.
Shred some cheese and stuff haphazardly on it, whatevs.
It's kinda like a raggy blanket, just wrap it up, whatevs.
Comes in a tube thingy, just eat the tube thingy, whatevs.
They even contain the same stuff. Meat. Cheese. Toppings. Starchy grain-based baked good to hold it.

If you're eating a taco that has ground beef in it you're doing it wrong. Proper tacos from a taqueria can be amazing.

Those don't look quite right... the meat on the two right tacos looks a little too... runny. I like carne asada or pollo asado tacos but those don't look right.ixnay wrote:If you're eating a taco that has ground beef in it you're doing it wrong. Proper tacos from a taqueria can be amazing.

Tacos are okay, but if you're in SoCal, you should be getting a California burrito. This is the law.
edit: Also, cheese pizza is wasted potential. Maybe it's some cultural thing for New Yorkers, but give me a good specialty pizza that doesn't skimp on toppings any day:

You're a nut. Tacos should have grilled chicken or shredded pork, with some options on beef I guess but I'm pretty sure that's not all that often, in places that aren't fucking Taco Bell. And did you just call tortillas raggy blankets? Someone needs to hook you up with some genuine homemade, the kind with like three ingredients (lime, ground corn and that other thing) and made on a proper grill.Aramek wrote: Taco

Re: HAMBURGER vs. PIZZA
Okay yeah a California burrito should be the first thing you buy ("you" being anyone visiting Cali). Then the next meal should be sushi. Isn't that a thing over here? I'm pretty sure it is. But your next next meal should come out of a taco cart. The guy running it might or might not speak English. He will charge you $5 for three little piles of spiced ambrosia. You will tip, because he's poor as fuck and his cooking is basically insane. He might also be selling tamales, which you should consider.SlateSlabrock wrote:Tacos are okay, but if you're in SoCal, you should be getting a California burrito. This is the law.

But this is the pizza thread. You know what's a pizza type? Margherita pizza. Toppings: tomatoes, basil and cheese. Good eating: yes

I can tell you what not to vote for: frozen pot pies. I was tired and didn't want to cook when I finally got up today, so I heated up a pot pie and it gave me food poisoning
Sticking to freshly-prepared foods from now on. Also pizza and hamburgers both own.

Did you use a thermometer? Frozen pot pies absolutely require that you get them to the right temperature as measured by a food thermometer.Paperback Writer wrote:I can tell you what not to vote for: frozen pot pies. Dagnabbit, when/why did everyone start calling it "Cali"? I lived in California for 32 years and never once heard that word. Then I moved to New York and all of a sudden everyone called it "Cali", including Californians.

Because it's shorter. Oh when? Well, judging by your age and the above post, I think we can infer that everyone started calling it Cali about, uh, four years ago.Headless Horse wrote:Dagnabbit, when/why did everyone start calling it "Cali"? Have you seen how high our unemployment, budget deficit and taxes are here? We just couldn't afford the "fornia" anymore. Like everything else of value, we had to sell it to China or Texas.Headless Horse wrote:Dagnabbit, when/why did everyone start calling it "Cali"? I do like chicken mole. It's great in burritos, but on a taco? sounds too messy, especially since it stains.ixnay wrote:

I thought about this...for a second. Burgers all the way. I overdosed on pizzas since they were at every friend's party in grade school. I think the amount of pepperoni consumed traumatized me. And cheese pizzas booooooo. A cheese pizza is a blank canvas on which you can paint the colors of the wind. Oh and for those who don't know, deep dish pizza is the best.
As for burgers though, I've had way too many delicious burgers in my life to not vote for them. Burger King and McDonalds don't know what's up. Feast your eyes on this, motherfuckers:
That's a burger with fresh California avocado AND tortilla strips. And you can't tell, but there's jalapeno relish and ranch on it. Yeah, try putting that on a pizza.
